oh man does this bring back memories. My mom and dad got their assess handed to them by the champion and I defeated him by pure luck. I can't do that again though
this game was way more brutal than mortal kombat i remember i borrowed this from a freind when i was younger and i was like dude mortal kombat sucks compared to this
I remember this tune, too...probably from however many times I'd make it all the way up to the Eternal Champion, only for him to hand me a smackdown. "Hey, guess what? I'm sending Trident back to die in Rome, and the universe is screwed. Thank you for playing."
@BloodyBay Haha I know! I always played Trident too, he was the only one that even stood a chance of getting to the end. I still remember the first time I actually defeated the Eternal Champion after months of playing...only to see him get back up. Even though I was seething with anger and shock, I got through 3 of his 5(?) forms before I died. I don't think I played again after that.
@achilleselbow I think it took me a couple tries to get through the Eternal Champion...and then, to my surprise, I had to fight the Dark Champion on top of that. But after wading through the Eternal Champion, the Dark Champion wasn't really any harder to beat. And the ending was a nice reward, too. "Whoa...Trident tore that guy's head off and stuck it on his trident? COOL! Man, look at those drifting clouds overhead...." :-D
But I failed to beat the sequel with any other characters, alas...not even with Slash (with whom I'd also beaten the first game), Xavier (ditto) and Crispy (the secret character who could positively whoop the hell out of any other opponent if you played her right). The sequel was brutal compared to the original.
@achilleselbow Oh, I almost forgot: both Champions had nine forms, including the original form. You fight the original form, then the Champion goes through four more forms (one for each of the glyph windows), then the windows explode and get replaced with four new windows, and the Champion changes through those four new forms as well.
The original game only had the Eternal Champion (no Dark Champion) and he only went through his Normal, Earth, Air, Fire and Water forms. Piece of cake, eh?

I swear I wanted to punch the Eternal Champion in the face when I got that bad ending! (I know I had my chance)
still a nice tune : )

Thanks for the (somewhat humbling) memories. :-)
