  • Gotta love this, what a fantastic song! Great voice too, so much character and soul! David's music is indeed timeless and deserving of greater attention and I will always be a fan! Thanks for posting this, and p.s. that guitar is really beautiful

  • That was the guitar he always uses. It was a Suzuki parlor guitar. Sounded great and always impeccably tuned. Why would he not want to use it?

  • That guitar he was playing looks like he got it out of a cracker jack box - couldn't they organize a Martin dreadnought for the show, even a loan?

  • Effortless but at the same time so passionate. Stars never burn out even if they fade away.

  • ....... David Wiffens' music is timeless .. its as strong today as when I listened to it over and over in the early 70s.... thx for the great post , and, Thank you David , where ever you are .

  • This is so beautiful. I wish David could have enjoyed performing and been more at peace with the magic he could produce. At least we have moments like this to enjoy. Thank you for posting.

  • I have the Coast to Coast Fever album and it's in perfect condition. :-)

  • Great! He channels Msr. Lightfoot. Or is it the other way 'round?

  • Simply beautiful.

  • okay.. does anyone know the guitar chords for this song?

  • @cheesiemonkey2 sure - they're [C] at 17 he [G] started to try some [D] things been on his mind [repeat next three lines] [C] before she went my [G] money got spent on [A7] good times whisky and wine .... now it's [D] bar stool and blinkers [F#] couldn't sleep yet anyway but he's [Bm] low inside [take away bar to drop low note to A] and the taste of fame has [E] turned the tide ... he's got a [G] coast to coast fever and [A7] highway on his [D] mind

  • @murfleblurg thank you so much! :)

  • a lovely man

    a real man

    no embarressment

  • Great Great Record!!!

  • Amazing!

It`s so surprising that we can watch David in You Tube and even this song,

I am a big fun of him, it is so wonderful voice.

I am Japanese, but he is quite popular in Japanese among Record Collectors.

It had been released as CD in Japan about 10 years ago, I believe that you can but CD of this album in Canada or States, too right now.

I wish I could go to his live,,,,,,

  • I remember this song from eons ago!!!!!!

Great trio of musicians!!!! especially David Wiffen........

  • What a voice, what a song, CLASSIC, thank you

  • loved this song for many a long time!

now i love it even more!!

    You R Beautiful!!!!!

  • I do not have enough words to express what he inspires in me the wonderful beauty of this song. The magnitude of this immeasurably misunderstood artist is inexplicable. David Wiffen: a man, a beautiful voice, his songs memorable, unforgettable. David Wiffen: melancholy hero of countless dreams, evoked by his heartfelt singing and true feeling. David Wiffen: returns to delight us with your songs inimitable !!!. A warm greetings from your biggest Italian fan.

  • So so nice! I have the "Coast to Coast Fever" album. I've played it twice. I mean I bought it again... the original has been played many times... Love "you need a new lover now"

  • Just listen to this mans voice! Stunning! Your the best Wiffen.

  • Wiffen is one of those unheralded masters—Fine songwriter and the best bass vocal in folk: cleaner than Jerry Jeff Walker (who covered "More Often Than Not"), smoother than Fred Neil (David added a little "Neil-ish" drop in the last chorus, by the way). You contributed a very fine vocal as well as the solid bass work. Very nicely done, and thanks so much for posting this.

Both "Coast to Coast" and "David Wiffen" might still be found on Amazon. "South of Somewhere" is definitely available.

  • Coast to Coast Fever was released as a CD around 10 years ago. Still sounds good!

I am the bassist on this cut, David came out of retirement, we did a few gigs, then he hung it up again. A few years later he released a new CD, then stopped performing. He's a great musician and a hell of a nice man.

  • Say Hi to David for me, we were friends way back when. I haven't heard from or of him in years now. Thought he might be like too many of my friends from those days.
