The church with those little blacks girls was burned down to bring more federal troops into the South and to weaken resistance to integration. No klansman or separtist would have done something so stupid knowing that it would create a tremendous backlash from the government and that it would damage the collective moral of white people, thus making it easier to implement "civil rights" laws and forced racial integration.
