Without that exemption, rodeo apparently cannot survive, and our state & federal politicians' collective mentality is stuck back in wild west movie times.

Yes, these practices are cruel. But most people should remember that half of these "cowboys" are inmates. Meaning that they probably have no idea how a rodeo should be done. The clips of them "breaking" the horses are horrible. It just proves that people who have NO IDEA how to train a horse to ride should not be around them. And doing these acts at "rodeos" is wrong. They are pretending to know what they are doing and by doing so are harming the innocent animals.

Also, everything you see happening to these animals takes place in PRCA rodeos. There is no difference except the inmates may or may not hold PRCA membership cards

You all obviously have no Idea of the inherent danger of any equine activity. A horse can just as easily break a leg out in the pasture at home as it could in an event like this.. Granted the people dealing with the horse should have used a lot more Commonsense. However there are far more dangerous people to worry about, these are the no commonsense idiots that will come up behind Equestrians on a busy street and Honk their horns spooking both horse and rider causing one or both to be injured.

I have been to many rodeos in my state and have never seen any of these events such as pulling steers, breaking wild horses, and setting out broncs and bulls out together, and it truly upsetting to see and I am glad that my state does not do it. I am part of the college rodeo circuit and I see to it that we treat out animals with care and respect. I would never let this happen.
Most rodeos aren't like this. I've been to plenty. I'm an animal lover and would never go to a rodeo if they were all like this. I hate it when people make it out like all rodeos are bad. It's so stupid, like saying all pits are bad and only giving them a bad rep. They're really not. I have a pit and she'd rather run than fight and I have never once seen her start a fight or growl or anything at another dog or a human, and pits actually statistically bite less humans a year than a lab does.

...This is a rare event. Seriously? Not all rodeos are like this, and not everyone would deal with it the way they did. Budget cuts was the public excuse, although the horse with the two broken legs did facilitate another public outcry. However, overall, animal abuse is legal in OK and other states' rodeo arenas because of exemptions in animal cruelty laws.

I felt sorry for the horse with broke leg but that wasn't intential. I was raised around farm life since I was a child and this was not animal cruelty. @CrismaFire horses don't need strength to control! they're not stupid! you need to be calm and communicate with this animal. pressure (such as the men just constantly pulling the horses head) drives the horse to keep pulling to find the place or slightest moment where the pressure is gone and they can relax or stop and think about what's happening. power control is never the answer, you have to convince the animal that you can be their friend and protect them like their herd instinct wants.

I've had so many surgeries, broken ribs, broken bones, black eyes, head busted open etc... so many times that I know longer trust people and I LOVE all animals. Very few videos can make me cry, but these six minutes I spent in floods of tears. I'm an avid animal lover, and although I compete in a high risk sport, I only compete when my horse is in peak condition, and never in rodeos. I would never do anything to intentionally injure my horse, always making sure he is wearing appropriate protection. This is just sickening. Thank you for making this public, so it can sink in to thick skulls, and people can have the photographic evidence.
In the United States the cared for horses and slaughtered horses humanely but now they ship horses to Mexico and they just beat the horses till they die or starve them! Thanks A LOT!

He had a lot of anger in him but now he is the most loving horse ever he even plays with my 4 dogs... I think that he thinks that he is a dog... Hahah!!! I am a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and frankly, I resent your presentation of one prison rodeo as indicative of the state of horse treatment in America. Yes, clearly, the horse was hurt. Yes, clearly, they should have taken care of him. No, this is not indicative of the AQHA or rodeo as a whole.

As for the AQHA, any horse org that promotes horse slaughter instead of responsible horse ownership is worthless.

This is disgusting... Let's break both of someones legs and make them walk in pain and agony. When they finally have enough and collapse on the ground kick them in the gut and pull on their hair to get them back up making them stand on their broken legs. Whole time I was watching this video I was tense imagining the pain that horse is feeling. I'm sure as hell never going to a rodeo and I'm glad that I have been awakened at what happens at these shows. I want to beat some sense into those people

first of all this contest should not be allowed in any state or province In any country! and second of all any broken leg for a horse is a death sentence and you could tell he just wanted some love and comfort :'( I don't go to rodeos, I protest in the Calgary stamepe against the rodeos because this is the kind of abuse that goes on every day! Budget cuts was the public excuse, although the horse with the two broken legs did facilitate another public outcry. However, overall, animal abuse is legal in OK and other states' rodeo arenas because of exemptions in animal cruelty laws.

I missed the cruelty part. I saw a rodeo and after looking at the video and was waiting to see the part you were talking about I must have missed it. I felt sorry for the horse with broke leg but that wasn't intential. I was raised around farm life since I was a child and this was not animal cruelty. I respect life but a 1200 lb horse is not a 5 lb dog and requires alot of strength to control. Bet you never pushed for human cruelity by showing a bull stomp some poor guys balls into ythe dirt.

@CrismaFire horses don't need strength to control! they're not stupid! you need to be calm and communicate with this animal. pressure (such as the men just constantly pulling the horses head) drives the horse to keep pulling to find the place or slightest moment where the pressure is gone and they can relax or stop and think about what's happening. power control is never the answer, you have to convince the animal that you can be their friend and protect them like their herd instinct wants.

This video makes me SICK!!! Not only do I rodeo (Barrel Racer) but I also live in a domestic abuse marriage. I've had so many surgeries, broken ribs, broken bones, black eyes, head busted open etc... so many times that I know longer trust people and I LOVE all animals. The fact that this and other animal abuse even takes place makes me ill. WAKE-UP people !!! This is wrong and stupid!!! All animals deserve our love and respect, afterall we are supposed to be their voices.

Very few videos can make me cry, but these six minutes I spent in floods of tears. I'm an avid animal lover, and although I compete in a high risk sport, I only compete when my horse is in peak condition, and never in rodeos. I would never do anything to intentionally injure my horse, always making sure he is wearing appropriate protection. This is just sickening. Thank you for making this public, so it can sink in to thick skulls, and people can have the photographic evidence.
