Our LaVerne knows her stuff! I haven't checked Google, but I seem to remember Emil was a Londoner. This came out at the time I was just beginning to take an interest in the charts (the Hit Parade back then) Happy memories!

I've never heard this in stereo before. It sounds just great. Is it true that the legendary Joe Meek had a hand in this record?

This kind of music has always made me laugh, there's something comical about it. Not very musical but fun.

LaVerne's a man...

And a good one, too, I'm sure. The blessing of YT's anonymity occasionally bites back ...

Well it is a feminine name, so it's not suprising. He chose it after one of the Andrews Sisters.

Besides London, Emile Ford also lived in Sweden in the sixties.
On a tour in northern Sweden their bus got a flat tyre outside the town Lycksele. Emile walks away to a nearby house to use the phone.
The girl who answered the door became the mother of two of Emile's children.
He even had a basement musicstudio in Lycksele.

Lucky Emile...that's Swedish girls for you.
The only thing I ever got when I had a flat tyre was a bill for a new one.
SirBasildeBrush 2 years ago
We make our own luck. Grandprix didn't say how many doors Emil had to knock on before he found the right one ...

Great wonderful gem...written in 1916!!!
This version reached #1 in the UK for six weeks. And Shakin' Stevens took it to #5 in 1987. A great run for a terrific song!
Many thanks for posting!
Wolfman Jack.
