  • Not a political song, but a beautiful, insightful poem about living. A lady can be in a white house and constitution can be upset without politics being involved. You do this man's genius injustice throwing unintended meanings in his incomparably poetic lyrics

  • this man wrote the sound track of my life, can't think of many days in the last 40 yrs that i haven' listened to a john Prine song,he has brought me thru the bad times and helped me celebrate the good times

  • there is no equal, such a masterfull craftsman, you think this is easy try your hand and wits at it !. john has been giving us soulgravy since the sixties ! god bless him

  • john prine is better than beer and cocaine hahaha

  • He later recorded this later as "Taking a Walk".

  • This is heaven.

  • I first heard JP when I was living and working on Guam. He is little known here in Australia. My opinion, he is one of the greatest singer song writers of all time.

  • just when you think you are alone, you come on over to You Tube and check out JP and he kinda reads your mind. good times or bad. sometimes just gettin by

  • yes i hear that now i was trying to figure which administration he was

    talking about

    thank you\watergrandmother

  • who was the lady in the whitehouse

  • @MrBermingham lady justice, i believe this song is a metaphor about his disappointment in the united states. "Shakes my constitution....."

  • @watergrandmother -- good observation and very accurate I think.........his extreme disappointment with the government of the day....W Bush. He wrote something similar called `The Great Compromise` back in the 70s about the state of the union at that time. Great Songs by a great artist.

  • @zuglaMAN oops, I meant to direct my comment to @MrBermingham, not Watergrandmother.

  • @MrBermingham I have always assumed that it was Linda Tripp. She would fit the description and the time the song came out.

  • owned everything this legend has ever put out....been listening since the early 70s...

  • prine

  • Soothing music.

  • I'm tellin ya all this Postman always delivers!

  • I'm takin' a walk...i'm jest gittin buy...

  • Yea I am a singersongwwriter too, amateur, but i try, He also motivateded me to be a better fingerpicker too. Love his Fingerpicking.

  • @Crustman1957 But use a tuner.

  • John I have been a singer songwriting for probably as long as you. Your stories have made me laugh and cry. You motivated to get better at picking. All the best, Lyle

  • I saw John on BBC in 1972 just before I emigrated to Canada and have been a fan ever since. I wore out Diamond in the Rough.

  • This is great music yet so basic. Two guitars and bass.Who needs more?

  • amazing i love this guy

  • Great song - thanks RATKING10 for sending

  • We lost Steve Goodman way too early . . . It is nice to still get new stuff from John Prine . . . When I walk in a new club, and the band plays Prine or Goodman, I know it is gonna be a great night.

  • @ThomasEdisonThanes I saw steve goodman open for prine in toronto. I saw john before, but that night Goodman was amazing. Will never forget that show.

  • Me and my wife are new fans. Mr. Prine...Come to Atlanta...We will be there.

  • Someone renamed this song to; "Taking a walk" by the time the CD Fair & Square was cut. A great CD.

  • Thanks J.P.Goodman & GoodWins & Good Luck.

  • how can write like ya

  • Well i have been a Prine fan long befor it was kool ! First time i heard him was on WMMS Cleveland,,,Billy bass a very out there disc jock was the only one playing him.Sam Stone turned me on to a folk hero who made you stop and listen to the words he was singing.

Thanks Billy Bass,,and thank you John for giving us some great songs.

  • He`s no bullshit! John is the real deal.

  • Amen, and he's even better live!!!

  • Im lucky to live just a few miles were he grew up so I can go to the old town school of folk

  • werid its called taking a walk on the album

  • wow, his guitar is dreadfully out of tune in this. it's still a great performance somehow, John's the man.

  • It's as if Mark Twain has returned to us...through John Prine! I've been a fan for many years. Thanks for posting. Prine DOES have a way with words!

  • I'm just getting by. Thats all i'm doing right now. Saw him twice in concert, hoping to see him again if he comes anywhere near here. One of my all time favourite singer/songwriters ever. One of the reasons I learned to fingerpick was his songs.

  • I was up close when he played Bonnaroo in 05.

He seemed to be recovering nicely from the medical treatment for his throat. It changed his sound a bit but still tops in my opinion.

He was smiling for my Camera that day! Catch a show when you can!

  • i'm taking a walk. forever j.p. fan

  • The Best, Simply Put...

  • A song we can all relate to...over and over at various times. Thanks for putting it into words, John.

  • LOL! i think im related to him

  • i love jp but he's gotta tune up!

  • It wouldn't be John Prine if he was in tune. Besides it might throw his voice off!!!

  • To you that are going to see John for the first time.........You'll have a great time.

  • Going to see him in October - cant wait!!

  • I adore this grammy winning National Treasure !!!!!!

  • Just coming back from a critical illness. I am taking a walk John.

  • i'm a 47 yr old "teenager". music has always been my love/passion. no other songwriter has ever meant more to me than John Prine. the honesty and emotional content of his songs have always hit home for me. i hope your doing well with your recovery.
