The biggest changes involving young people have been the influence of TV (which again is huge) poor schooling (which is also a big problem) and an overall lack of discilpne and respect for your peers, your parents and authority (rules, laws and regulations) and if you read my comment you will see that I have noted that it is a complex issue

I am from Barnsley, notice Im not writing in the dialect, because I am ASHAMED to call myself a Barnsley man. Why? because of the benefit grabbing scum that is taking over .They have no pride or shame, and they blame everyone for it (usually Maggie Thatcher). Locals are racist because blacks or asians were rare in the town until a few years ago, but the council has shipped loads in to make a multi-ethnic community overnight, which will never work in any town.

I'm Barnsley born and bred and live in Manchester now. I much prefer it and love Manchester. However, whilst Barnsley has it's problems and the town centre is a state, generally speaking crime is relatively low. Murders, shootings etc are rare.

I was born in Barnsley and my Parents were both from Barnsley. They said Barnsley was OK when they were younger but it got worse and worse and didnt want me and my brother to grow up there or have that accent, Im 13 now and i have no Barnsley accent and im glad.
