  • @metalmofo1989 The name of the exercise is pantera...it's been two years in sure you found that out but j.s

  • gonna play with the nome here to keep myself honest... Hahaaha

  • lol Meshuggah - Bleed Lesson

  • thanks for explaining the herta so well... (sense the sarcasm?)

  • well apperantly u work with ur pad but how do u work on the kit with 10s of thousand of ppls looking id say u would snap:-)

  • this is hard

  • what pad is that?!

  • meshuggah's bleed at 1:33 xD

  • This is my favorite rudiment

  • Lol! He's head explodes in to a new dimension of size at 1:48

  • @Immolateswe oh shit that was funny!!!!

  • Ok, this is not what I expected. I figured Vinnie Paul lost quite a bit of weight there..

  • Shouldn't you call it the panhereta! Lol thats a knee slapper.

  • @aemguitar ur so right

  • Im reaaly interested in getting a snare drum ,but i know nothing on brands or places to get them .Where can i get a good drum .and whats the instrument that your playing on??

  • @Redtidalwave its a practice pad

  • u guys are all fucking dumbasses...he played triplets then added in the SEXTUPLETS jeez

  • where can u go to get the drum your using?

  • paradiddle this. so fun.

  • a slow mo clip would be useful

  • @Acoustic1995 Touche'.. I totally agree haha..

  • lololol no such thing as 24th notes

  • @329Mortar are you fucking retarded? triplets are 12th notes because there are 12 in a 4/4 measure so naturally when you play sixlets they are 24ths (because 6x4=24)

  • @renman000 triplets are triplets, played in a 4/4 count they are 8th triplets, they dont havent been asigned a value such as 12 in my musical knowledge (quite extensive in my case, but ill look it up to see if im wrong)

  • @renman000 okay, well they are definately called tuplet 8ths which give a bar (consequently) 12 devisions or of sexlets it devides the bar into 24, but they are still quarters, 8ths, 16ths (go as high as you like)

  • Kevin, his hands are fine, dude.

  • Frankly, that's a lie, Jordan. There is a better hand, just by adding all the variables together like bone structure, muscle mass and range of movement, you could compare hands, but there will be individual deviations for each person. There is in fact, a better grip for different things, hence, some of the fastest drummers use French grip so they can do the pivot. Even then though, individual people will have a different structure and it might change your best grip.

  • Just by common sense, there is going to be some variation in what each hand's physicial limit can be. The thing is, I severely doubt even the best drummers have neared the point where the capacity to play fast has eventually plateaued at a certain beat per minute, so, you'll never really even pretty much know which hand is good for you unless for pretty much two whole lifetimes spanning the exact same factors, (cont'd)

  • And only one independent variable, the grip. If you compared them, I guarantee there would be a difference. If someone with the exact same physical structure, who took in the exact same nutrients and lived the exact same lifestyle, other than using a different grip, I guarantee there would be differences, considering the percussionist doesn't purposely level off at a certain speed.

  • I thought I was good at marching snare... then I saw this -_-

  • why does your left hand look like its flicking me off? curl your middle finger and bottom fingers.

  • @kevinhall0056 Because you're sort of a tool and deserve to be flicked off.

  • @KBoe4 lol.

  • did i see 311 on that pad??? :)

    gotta love 311 and sexton!

  • Who really plays triplets like that?

  • @xGAVENx anybody thats good enough to play it clean.

  • @Musicunseen95 It's way easier to play triplets with a double on one hand and a single on the other than it is to play all singles, at least for me.

  • can some one please tell me where he got that snare pad from

  • Who did this dude march for?

  • 24th notes? WTF? :)

  • @maqprus 24th notes = sextuplets.

  • Traditional is what DCI drumlines use. Their drums aren't tilted. Go check blue devils. They were number 1 in the World, and they do not use titled drums. Basically, if you see another Drumline's Snares, playing Matched grip, you assume they suck. Anyone can use matched grip,. That is what makes snare a challenge, training yourself to use your left hand as effective as playing it matched, plus, it looks 15x cooler, in every way you can imagine. (:

  • @mikey16piet SCV marches match grip every year divisible by 5 or something like that I think.

  • @XylussN But the other 4 years, they march traditional. I've never heard of a drumline marching matched. Interesting.

  • @mikey16piet Hmm, I know a fair few that march matched. One of my high schools did.

  • @XylussN you mean every 5 years? lol

  • @aintmybabyfour I meant every half decade :)

  • @XylussN lol. any year with a perfect square root divisible by 5 times pi minus the number of people in the world.

  • @aintmybabyfour if i were to fully extend both of my hands in front of me and then one of my hands were to be sliced off by a light saber, the adjacent hand would hold the number of fingers equal to the number of years that pass by until the next year that SCV plays match.

  • its danny carrey :)

  • travis barker sticks?

  • @punkrockdrummer1990 ralph hardimon

  • the nome

  • anyone have a score of this exercise?

  • Comment removed

  • pordias subir algun video en español?

  • This is in the "Krystal Klear" solo

  • wow, dude, you have balls to not even edit out your "oops"

  • i dont think they did either lol

  • u need some beer u prick CALM THE FUCK DOWN

  • pantera is the name of this snare drum excersise.

  • it has the same rhythm as a pantera song in the beginning

  • ass

  • i know, but all I said was I'd rather play on a drumset :P

  • You are so much better than those expert village videos. Those are atrocious.

  • what are you talking about? the expert village people are highly trained drumming gods. youre an idiot. (i rated up btw)

  • expert village suck arse dude

  • you are all dumb

  • killer stuff man!

    very nice work.

  • i'd rather play on a full kit

  • fuck off

  • you fuck off you douche bag

  • alright, fair enough

  • @natedog977... that means you don't understand the fundamentals of real drumming... percussion is more than just a drum set...

  • thats just frickin awsome

i cant wait until i can try that

  • I don't care what your "focus face" looks like, that's pretty awesome. Does that face come from a marching posture? I can picture you with one of those drum-core outfits on when you raise your chin like that. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you to keep making these videos because they are really giving me inspiration and guidance I can really put to use. THANKS!

  • i never played on a practice pad

  • great stick work...

  • your focus face is hilarious. But hey, it seems to work for you. haha.

  • whats the sticking for a herta

  • RL R L RL R L ...

    LR L R LR L R

  • @jurihaake thanks

  • I think that he is using Ralphies

  • what kind of practice pad is that?

  • what sticks do you use? Witch Corps stick is better?

  • not bad...

  • 24th notes?

  • Sixteenth note triplets.

  • Can anyone tanscribe me the 16th Part at 2:19? I cant find out the Sticking :-(

  • Its the entire excercise on his page except without the doubles.

  • okay that's a great demonstration of a good exercise, but if you don't explain the phrasing then you need to at least provide the sheet music instead of making us search for it. After watching this, I know the basic rhythm of pantera, but have no clue as how to play it.

  • It's on the website in the description under the exercise section.

  • lol meshuggah - bleed

  • @nimajnebenneb lol i was thinking the same thing

  • That is amazing dude. Sounds so ill.

  • where did you get that pad from?

  • 311!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the traditional way isn't gay... its proper... but i use the match grip always no mater what

  • The ONLY difference between grips is visual. People can tell you all day one way is easier to learn or better to play with, but it all just depends what you practice more. That's it.

  • @onejordangerous Traditional is easier for people who use strapped snares, which tilt.

  • @onejordangerous ... that is not true .. there is a definite sonic and feel difference between matched and traditional grips ..If i am playing swing matched grip it feels too heavy , but if i switch to trad grip it immediately lightens up and swings more .. by the way , same goes for heel down VS heel up on the pedals ...jazz feels better when my heels are down , heals up is way too heavy and powerful sounding for jazz ... and by the same logic , heels down and trad grip dont cut it for rock

  • @sweetfly66 I'm sure that might be how it feels now, but I can almost guarantee if you practice both equally in all styles, things would eventually even out. It might still FEEL more comfortable (familiar muscle use) to favor one over the other depending on the situation, but if practiced enough, both grips produce nearly identical sounds. (ex: I started jazz playing with matched, then learned traditional and prefer the latter now, but I could still confidently play matched if I wanted to)

  • @onejordangerous .... you didnt comment on my analogy regarding heel up or heel down playing on the pedals ...i see matched grip VS trad grip the same way i see heel up / heel down ... they feel different musically and they sound different ... there is a reason most jazz players use traditional grip and most rock drummers use matched grip ...the grips simply are more appropriate feel wise and sound wise

  • @sweetfly66 With the heel up, you can utilize a whipping motion with your whole leg, generating more power but needing more control. And just like the feet, different grips utilize different muscle groups and can change the "feel" of the playing. However, traditional grip is popular with older musicians (especially jazz, one of music's oldest commercial forms) because it was the original technique taught. Matched is still fairly new to the music scene, and its all a matter of preference.

  • @onejordangerous Oh, and matched looks gay. That too.

  • sex face 1:46

  • hahaha right.

  • i like it. was it your idea or is it from like drum lines covered :D

  • anyone know why its called pantera? i was expecting vinnie paul and instead i got a face full of awesome herta's

  • My guess is he calls it Pantera because this pattern is very similar to the main groove of the pantera song "Mouth of War". Listen to 1:34 and you'll recognise it.

  • yeah actually it does. thanks man

  • you're right. it sounds like the intro to that song as well as the bold and disastrous part.

  • dude exclent timing on the end when u snaped ur sticks i can tell uve ben tought ;)

  • lol i love his playing face too haaa.

one of my friends from my snare line plays with his mouth open while the other one sings the songs that we're playing.

  • hahaha when I was in the pit last year, I got so annoyed with the show music that i sang it while I played it

  • haha, we don't have a pit, we just kinda sing while we march on the football field to make our director mad(:

  • must be fun my city doesnt have any marching band so its kinda disapointing

  • 1:04 UPS XDX

  • In case it hasn't been mentioned before this, the foot pattern that thomas haake plays in the song "bleed" is just hertas. Of course, its made difficult because its really fast and requires coordination with the hands.

  • Yeah he's trippin fo sho lol

  • Lol i love his playin face :P

  • yeah he look like a stoned rabbit

  • I don't care what it's called they are HERTZAS, HERTZAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...herta?

  • ...harta?

  • herta.

  • eh..i need help with this? someone want to do me a favor and like..post a vid of doing it slower maybe? i are alil slow :[

  • hurta

  • kritter42, you are the biggest fuckin dumbass cocksucker i know

  • because I know the difference between trad and matched? Go jump off a cliff you elitist piece of shit.

  • I bet I'm better than you if you don't know the advantages of matched grip.

I play trad, always will, but I'm not going to sit here and deny that matched grip makes more sense on a flat drum. Traditional grip was a tradition because the drums were tilted. If your drum isn't tilted, there's no reason to play trad except personal preference. You're retarded.

  • really? retarded? that must mean nearly all instructors are idiots! gees why would anyone believe them when they say the transfer value with match from snare to other instruments makes more sense than the value from traditional

  • why when he is drumming it looks like he's talking

  • will you play some metal

  • totally diggin the 311 sticker on ur pad bro!!!

    nice exercise

  • very impressive.

  • 'looks more professional' anything more snob-ish

  • "im on my middle school drumline"

    "on my middle school drumline"

    "my middle school drumline"

    "middle school"

You don't have a clue what you're talking about, do you?

  • HAHAHAHA THANK YOU KRITTER

  • I mean, seriously, our line plays traditional grip too, and so do most drum corps lines, but none of the points he made make any sense. It will hurt your left ring finger until you get a callous. Visuals are easier when you hold both sticks the same way, accents are harder with traditional because the motion is awkward, and it only "looks more professional" because a lot of professionals use it. Trad was made to counteract the tilt, and nobody uses a tilt anymore - matched makes more sense.

  • thank you. thank you! oh my god. this is the first intelligent argument for matched grip i've heard in these stupid comment wars.

  • What's the point of this comment...?

Really? He was only teaching an exercise. Where did this talk about better grips come from?

  • seeing someone play that way will influence them to play that way

  • so.. does matched mean i can learn to play this rudimentary stuff while holding the sticks like a normal person?

  • "Like a normal person" haha.

  • man, sum people cant take a joke so giv me thumbs down, im sry ok! geeezzz!!! thx fatgocks.. at least sumbody gets me

  • fail

  • -.- b00g

  • nots?? lol haha apps haha lol

  • what kind of practice pad is that i need one

  • Ups!

    Hehehehehe

  • I do believe when he is not playing and you can see the "butt" end of the stick it looks like Scott Johnson sticks and not Hardimon's. I know in one video you can definately see he is using those instead of Hardimons.

  • i got some scojos, theyre pretty good.

  • hes using ralph hardimon sticks they are almost 17 inches long and weigh a ton

  • lol "they are almost 17 inches long and weigh a ton" thats what she said

  • Dang, if those weight a ton the Casellas must suck for you, eh?

  • they are the original ralph hardimons not jr's

  • how big are those sticks?!

  • corpsmasters probly

  • thats what she said.

  • rofl

  • Kinda funny. I also own an old xymox pad with a 311 sticker on it too.

  • those are ralphie jr.s

  • your drumsticks look like cubensis mushrooms....... not taking the piss, just an observation.

  • Marching sticks are supposed to have a big end on them and be taped to look like that..lol

  • iunno if anyone has said this yet, but the herta thing is what tomas haake uses in bleed, it sounds so awesome

  • I think your the one that got me to start calling setuplets 24th notes. Same thing, I say 24th notes and people look at me and go wha????

  • can you send me a copy of that music any one?
