Shame nowadays, it will take a student loan to get to a culinary academy and in Vince's case, being connected to all of the Ashleys (save Spinelli) fathers to give his family the funds needed to pay for culinary education which will make only about 50k at most. IRL, Vince would get to work in the cafeteria kitchens for money during high school.

and makes sense for sports players to know about cooking. Can't stay fit with all those burgers and fries.
