i have this pedal. i found it good for getting some more hard rock tones and lamb of god tones. but if you're looking for more than that, as i was, you may be disappointed. i found the higher distortion levels pretty nasty sounding but maybe that was just me! try it out for yourself. I was using a guitar with seymour blackouts with a basswood (not CHEAP basswood) body

This may be one of the best all around distortion pedals for metal and hard rock. Very versatile and not too "digital" sounding. Amp distortion with a sonic maximizer through the loop is a way better option though.

This pedal is a tricky bastard. Not for anyone. It can make you sound like crap if you don't know how to use it, or it can make you sound great if you are one of the few who can handle it's power.

Still my favorite distortion pedal of all time. I must have bought the very first one. I picked up the Keeley modded version. They use better quality components and install a 3 position mode switch. One position is stock MT-2 with the better components, its less noisy. clearer sounding. They there's a Marshall type sound. The 3rd position is like a bomb going off! A big thick Recto tone. I love mine.

THis Pedal is extreamly good for heavier stuff such as Three Days Grace and other bands..it can also be dialed in to be good for real heavy metal! such as Slipknot and Job For A Cowboy! Great Tone in this One Pedal!!

or

2. Combo amp like cube 30x or laney prism p35

I know the combo amp gives a tube like sound but does the first option give a tube like sound too?

@soumobose The Mt2 has a tube tone yes depending on your settings which i can give you, I've used it for 8 years

Haha - I think part of this is undoubtedly down to amazing guitars and amps running with it lol - and partly coz, like someone else said, its been dialled by people thta know what they are doing! Most people i know just crank it so it goes dirty but unclear :/
