The magazine reporter never said that he checked out Jody's dads story that he had the negatives to these photos. @kenfo0 I don't know about cattle, but I know around here of several people that keep mules or donkeys in the pasture with sheep to protect them from predators. I had a relative that had 2 very large mules when I was a kid, he only used them to pull the plow though. They were very large and would have been formidable in a fight against anything. I've never seen a mule fight another animal, but I'm sure they could kill nearly any smaller animal if they chose to. (and don't let one kick you)

I have a clydesdale mule and it took about ten seconds for all four of my dogs to learn not to go near him once he tried to stomp thier heads in. i believe the lion was dead or wounded and had no fight left. notice that the lion was not clawing or biting. it would have been fighting back. now, although, contrary to some peoples opinions, it is possible for a mule to fend-off a lion attack (a horse, llama, alpaca, vicuna & donkey can, also)(that's why they are used as herd protectors) killing a lion would be extremely rare, as a beaten cat would simply run away. on the other hand, it is also possible for a lion to kill any of these.

I've watched my own mules kill raccoon and stray dogs that have gotten in their pasture. Mules and donkeys are used as 'coyote' protection in my area for beef cattle.

I never said faster i said they could OUTRUN. do you know hat outrunning means? It means that even though the human is slower, he/she can run at an even pace, and eventually chase an animal into exhaustion and death because most animals can only run at high speeds in short bursts, whereas humans are built for endurance running. i could outrun a deer in a day, even less. Hunters did it before the invention of weapons, and some still do it when they hunt.

because sweating through pores (which not many animals can do btw) allows humans to cool rapidly, allowing them to run almost any animal to death of exhaustion. being able to eat while running also allows humans to restore their calories, allowing them to outrun their prey. humans can swim, they can also fly and travel to outer-space with thing that they built. how is this not clicking in your head? mules can accually see where there back foot is stepping unlike a horse. Mules can't reproduce because they are missing a chromosone. The story was that the mountain lion was stalking dogs and the mule killed it to protect the don. :]

i believe the lion was dead or wounded and had no fight left. notice that the lion was not clawing or biting. it would have been fighting back. now, although, contrary to some peoples opinions, it is possible for a mule to fend-off a lion attack (a horse, llama, alpaca, vicuna & donkey can, also)(that's why they are used as herd protectors) killing a lion would be extremely rare, as a beaten cat would simply run away. on the other hand, it is also possible for a lion to kill any of these.

no its not phony, a lion has no chance against a mule, horse, or donkey. If you've ever been around a horse you'd know how ferocious they get when they're mad. Think about it, 1200 lbs of pissed off animal against 200 lbs of cat, If one kick can kill a person, i think it can kill a cat. AND they're super fast the cat wouldn't have time to react. I keep a donkey in the pasture with my animals and i've found dead racoons in the pasture, so, yeah. Know something about the animal before you speak.

"mules" are basically the same as a horse, considering they are 1/2 horse (bred from a mare horse & a jack donkey) not to be confused with a "hinny" (bred from a stallion horse & a jenny donkey) 2. Horse nor any donkey can negotiate tricky mountain paths with loads as mules can; neither animal is as terribly stubborn as a mule: different tempraments, use, behaviour...
Despite the vast difference in behaviour of an Arab and a Teke or a Shire horse, they still have similar 'horse' and not 'mule' tempraments

Part 1; I have heard that before but believe a mules eyes to be no different than a horse. Without actually looking through their eyes we don't know for sure but mules are nevertheless generally more surefooted than horses.

I've watched my own mules kill raccoon and stray dogs that have gotten in their pasture. Mules and donkeys are used as 'coyote' protection in my area for beef cattle.
