  • I am listening to this song in my hotel room in Houston and overcome with nostalgia at this 4 am. Great music.

  • From childhood, this song makes the hair stand on my body. It touches me in a very deep place emotionally and I have no idea what they are singing.

  • it is great for drinking palmwine, how about ogogoro, 404 , or push me i push? lol

  • Simply the best from African legend,Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson.R.I.P

  • This is Rivers Y'all

  • This song is great for drinking palmwine!

  • This song is great for drinking palwine!

  • @obidike13 He's talking about his love..Mia odo (my love) in the language of Twi. Jolly papa means Good lover in Twi.

@tulzen I concur with the trading and collabo of songs. This is a typical sound of Typical Ashanti Folk music and Ghanaian Hi-life of the likes of K.Gyasi

  • Could you imgine, I gew up listening to Rex Lawson's music, though, am Yoruba, yet i grew to love the music without any ethinic sentiments. It was such a great novelty for me, when I saw the CD in a shop and now so sweet to find the collections on youtube. Kunle from JABU, Ikeji-Arakeji.

  • This is Ghanaian not nigerian...listen to the lyrics carefully.

  • dude its nigerian its not ghanianian the language thier speaking it rivers

  • @obidike13 dude this a ghanaian language its called twi

  • @hatie3 its not even close kid

  • @obidike13 my God,thats my language they are singing,i should know it right when i hear it. and stop with the kid,who is a kid??

  • @ELMulti77 , this is a Nigerian singing in a ghanaian language, it is easy to spot his accent is not on the money. But it makes no difference, Rex Lawson had great following in Ghana, just as E.T Mensah, Joe Mensah, The Ramblers Dance band had following in Nigeria. Up the "West Coast" I say.

  • This is ashanti not kalabari. in those days when SS Apapa sailed regularly between Lagos and Accra, Nigerian and Ghanian musicians regularly collaborated and sang each other's songs. This is a tune, I believe by K Gyasi.

In any event I was an adult before I realized that Rex was not a Ghanaian. His music was and is still the gold standard of highlife!

  • @tulzen It would be fun to have pleasure cruises along the West African coast, with bands on board...again.

  • i feel this in my bones

  • @ogbuabatete

    to the core!

  • I love and miss you Rex. Radio Stations must play Jolly Papa every hour then-in order to remain in business. Even as a Kid, Jolly papa was an all time favorite. Thank you host for sharing.

You know, I've had this song in my head all day. I was singing it silently at work earlier today. Well, you have a good night rest, and God bless
