You may have enough craftiness and celebrity status to convince millions of innocent people of your socialism, but this is America. Is the economy recovering? I don't see anything happening. Haven't you learned your history? People who tried what you are trying, failed.
This is a slight unmeritable man, meet to be sent on errands: and, though others lay these honors on this man, to ease themselves of divers slanderous loads, he shall but bear them as the ass bears gold, to groan and sweat under the business, either led or driven, as they point the way; and having brought their treasure where they will, then take they down his load and turn him off, like to the empty ass, to shake his ears and graze in commons.
You're not being an independent thinker, you're ascribing to group-think. You are refusing to bend your thinking in the slightest and are so sure of yourself that you chose a name to reflect that racist belief that's been around for several thousand years. You ascribe to a dogma: "Jews are evil". I'm merely challenging that heavily biased belief and suggesting an alternative: cooperation, tolerance, and open-mindedness.
"Fear and bigotry are going to make your kids unemployable in an adult work world where they compete for jobs with the rest of the globe -- as if a lack of critical thinking and education won't do that, too."
Tort Reform is not in any of the bills. Obama NEVER put Tort reform on the table. He did not even author any of these bills. Not one Bill produced by this Dem congress included Tort reform at any time. Numerous requests by the GOP to insert it have been defeated,
dencal26: Obama broached tort reform in April, putting it on the table for the Republicans to see what they would concede in return. They passed. (Time, May 5, TinyURL cov8t7)
It would seem that in this case Republican hatred toward all things Obama trumped their otherwise unflagging support for the health insurance industry.
Dude, your user name is a big F-U to anyone of Jewish decent. Your coming into the discussion with ignorant guns blazing. There's no rational way to discuss with you since you've got a heavily biased stance from the get go. Do you spend as much effort improving your community as you do bashing an entire people that you obviously don't understand?
Its funny how the unions cheer and shriek for Obama and enjoy some of the best healthcare plans around. Oh, and most of these plans are employer funded not union funded. Then Congress passes and we get the public option, now the unions employer dumps the union employees into the public plan why? To save money. The question is will the public option be as good as the union/employer plan they currently have? I think maybe not. Now thats real Hope & Change I can believe in....
Well I'am one of those Union members and no I have to pay for my insurance out of my own pocket, like 90% of the rest of us. I pay $962.00 a month right now, and I'am a construction worker, so when I get laid-off, I still have to pay this a month to maintain insurance, thats why we what public option so we create a competition and lower the price.
What do you expect when you choose such a provocative user name? You claims Jews are ruining the world and, using your youtube channel and name as reference, it's obvious that spend a lot of time and effort expressing that view. What's the point of throwing all that out there if you're not willing to discuss it? If you're going to attack an entire people, you should expect to have to defend your stance from time to time.
2% of the US Population has some 15% of Senate. Overly represented in judgeships. Control print media and TV and Hollywood. Far too much power for one small group
You really think my family and I are ruining the world? I make video games and recycle... How does that equate to everyone that's gone to temple being some kind of soulless virus on the planet?
I can't disagree with you...the fact is, there is no credible news outlet in the USA....they all sat on their hands after 9/11, and they seem to preach whatever is most popular at that time.
You guys that are barking about what is or isn't in the "Obamacare" bill do realize that there are in fact several bills under consideration and that none of them were written by the Obama administration, right?
CrackWilding: They are taking advantage of the prejudice exposed by the fact that a minority of people support "Obamacare" but a majority of people support similarly-defined reform without "Obama" in the title.
My source says that, as of mid-August and depending on how the question is asked, a public option is supported by anywhere from 52% to 77% of those polled. (TinyURL m69b92)
This is compared to a June poll citing 72% support for a public option. (TinyURL l8vhfu)
So, even after all the Chickem Little crap at the August town hall meetings, support is still strong for a public option.
Great speaker, nice guy, but his policies and agendas will cripple this countries middle class. One question President, How does printing trillions of paper dollars fix a country which suffers from consumption and greed? Shouldn't we be cutting budgets and tightening our wallets as a nation, how does providing health care for all make sense when we are trillions in debt? You can fire it up all you like but the only thing that should be fired is anyone talking about spending money we don't have.
Your are blind, he is just like the rest of them. No tort reform cause he is scared of trial lawyers, no free market on healthcare like car insurance has, he has continued almost every policy bush has had post 9/11, he wants to spend spend spend, he gives preference to unions and community organizers with OUR money, he generates tension between political parties, and most importantly, he lies about being for the interest of american people
no, i'm not blind, your angry, cynical and deluded. who, except right-wing ideologues give a crap about tort reform?
what an absolute pile of worthless crap that a bunch of utterly angry, bigots use when they need something to shout about.
and how much more free market power do you want to give to health care giants so they can more systematically take more of our money to deny life saving treatments, procedures and medications when we actually need it.
More lies. Obama offered tort reform to Republicans in April - -they turned him down (Time, May 5, TinyURL cov8t7)
And please cite proof of "preference to unions and community organizers with OUR money" - I think you're talking about section 164 of HR 3200, which says *nothing* about unions and community organizers.
You demonstrate an unwillingness to engage in an honest discussion on health care reform. What are you really afraid of?
Read the bill and get upset like everyone else and stop being apathetic loyalists.
Why not press a bill that makes everyone have congresses health care? that would seem like they really care eh? why not force that bill??!?!!?! hmm exactly..doesn't profit their corporatism.
Remind yourself what it is again that you are supposed to be "free" from.
I hate to be a bastard, but the American concept of freedom is not 'from' but rather 'to' as in 'freedom to... hold any religion, possess guns, hold public assembly... originally, to own slaves, yada yada... 'Freedom from' is the French revolution's concept of freedom, where one is free from tyranny.
So I hate to be a bastard, but you are not 'free from' but you are 'free to'. The essence of this means if you don't like something, it's down to you to exercise your rights to get it changed
We all have to deal with people that want to rationalize things to press tyranny upon us. We were to be "Free From" BigGovt (tyranny) Which allowed us to be "Free To" yada yada... See how it works?
No, you're free from a monarch who can impose unfair taxation. If you elect a president who sets what you think are unfair levels of tax you can vote them out at the next election. That is exercising your rights.
There is nothing in the constitution identifying tyranny with 'biggovt' because tyranny is where the masses are at the mercy of the whims of a small, armed, minority. So, in a sense, all govt is tyranny, but you do not have the chance to vote out a true tyranny every four years.
The declaration of Independence states we are free from the monarch.
You know if I were to create a government, I think I would put that protection in there....O wait duh...Our Constitution's strength was the morals of our people. Constitution also outlines governments rolls and By no means is it BIGGOVT. Tyranny is not built in but created out of misinterpretation of ROL and rights. Aspirations of freedom compound as the ideals do.
Yes, the morals of the people. If the government does not live up to the standards expected by the people then they will be voted out. The revolutionaries knew how terrible a thing civil war is, so that's why you celebrate the 'peaceful transaction of power' on inauguration day. The constitution also allowed for slavery, but that changed. The role of govt. has changed many times in your country - the idea that it could provide for the health of its citizenry would not have occurred to a founder.
"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrations), too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery." - Thomas Jefferson
His first draft is one to read. There are many reading that follow the cross sections of our founders agreement to create a limited Government.
Yet another falsehood. This lie usually refers to section 164, which says nothing about unions but is a *temporary* measure that helps retirement funds deal with people not yet age-eligible for SS. And to thing $10B exempts *any* large class from health care reform is to seriously (by orders of magnitude) misunderstand the health care situation.
How can we have a serious discussion when you continue to misrepresent the facts?
why do unions continue to support democrats when they continuously betray the labor movement? are you fired up to be lied to again by the dems? nafta/gatt ring a bell?
Why has Obama not even mentioned tort reform? Why has he not offered to open up the way insurance is bought so that competition can increase? Oh, thats right, he is scared to take on trial lawyer lobbyists. So much for that lobbyist campaign promise. Good Job Mr. Pres., you seem to be well versed in how to take a country to its knees.
Um, we cant have an honest discussion because this administration is saying one thing and doing another. I misrepresent nothing, if he wanted to discuss tort reform, he would have it in the bill. There is more to itthen tort reform, i wish the Obamabots would open their eyes and realize everything is not free and that they are selling you a lie.
But the GOP doesn't get it - as Beck, Hannity, & Rush continue to blast the unions.
Most of the union vote is gone now from the GOP, as is the black vote & the Hispanic vote & as are the pro-choice women (over 50%), as are those who're college educated (as indicated by a recent pool).
The GOP tent is now a pup tent.
It looks like we'll even get a Democratic Senator in Texas in a couple of months when Hutchinson resigns.
You know whats funny Dillion, as you sit here and play Dem vs. Rep, most people have gone past that. They hate partisan arguing. The fact that both sides are lying through their ass makes people want to just go independent. Be careful who you follow so blindly into your demise. When all is done, people will be begging for tax reform and healthcare reform all over again. Cause the only thing this bill will do is raise healthcare cost and raise taxes.
Why does he suck union dick so hard? Not like they do anything but siphon more money out of companies. Look at the car companies, they could not even afford their retirement plans. Unions had their place at one time. Now we have laws to protect us, and unions have become leaches with never ending thirst for money.
Oh wow... this is the Barack that made me vote for the first time in years. Get it done, Barack! You've gotten me fired up about healthcare reform too now lol :-)
Now; that's the man who everyone was talking about a year ago. That's the man who can get health care for a misinformed nation. That's a guy with a great future in after-diner speaking if it all goes to hell.
I never saw this or even any clips on TV news. WTF? I see Newt Gingrich and McCain on TV more than Obama. Not kidding. Too bad this is a funny story....
Well Ryan, the line between campaigning and 'governing' is pretty vague. Because governing is about leading people. He needs grassroots support for a strong health care bill. So he campaigns for it and he gets it. That's governing with people power not just sitting around signing executive orders and trashing the Constitution. He's not W sitting in the White House letting Dick Cheney run things from the shadows.
It does my heart good to see this now. I was in the hall in Des Moines the night he introduced this line into his campaign speech. I marched behind him to the Jefferson Jackson Dinner and lost my voice over a twelve hour day of politics that ended with the most electrifying speech I've ever seen. I was screaming in his face by the end of it. Heard myself on the national broadcasts later. This guy's the best campaigner ever and an Iowan would know.
obama doesnt control the media, or the house, or the senate. granted i feel any sort of reform that will help the "common man" will get crushed by our current congress, its hard to quit believing in him.
im not a Fox News kool-aid drinker like a sizeable % of our country is.
also, i am not naive to think that the dems are 100% "for the people"
but at least our president is not afraid of the lobbyists, for once.
Not sure who put the speech together, but as I understand it, this bit about the Fired Up, Ready To Go chant was a tangent that wasn't included in the pre-written speech, so it was genuine Obama.
Do you wonder why Osocialist is addressing the AFL-CIO on labor day? The answer is simple, read HR3200 • Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all UNION retiree and community organizer health plans (example: ALF-CIO, SEIU, UAW and ACORN). How will they pay for the program? Where is the revenue going to come from for healthcare? They say we can do it through wellness and that plan BS. Healthcare is dead, they have a decreasing tax base, unemployment going over 10 and no answer.
- Does NOT mention unions or community organizers - just retirees
- Is TEMPORARY
- is capped at $10B
- deals with people who have retired but are not old enough to qualify for Medicare and are insured by their former employer
The gist of this section is to provide some government assistance to the employer so said employer can comply with the cost restrictions that will be established in this health care bill.
LOL WHAT?! why does he seem to sound more and more like a southern baptist preacher as his term goes on?
and the chanting at the end lol wtf? there was another long shot guys who led his country in a movement who also enjoyed leading chants from the podium in front of his flag...he just had a hand gesture to go along with it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That was pathetic. If those people had two brain cells and could hear themselves cheer they'd be so embarrassed by their stupidity. I can't believe a wack job loser like this is in the presidency.
The only wack job loser I see here has a burning constitution as his wallpaper. Sorry if the constitutional scholar and president of Harvard law review, state and US Senator and now President doesn't match up to your standards of what a "winner
Obama probably will get his health care reform bill through, but I doubt it will have a public option. You socialists will have to wait a few years for single payer universal coverage. It will get here eventually, though. One step at a time. Each new president increases the gov'ts role in health just a little bit, one piece at a time, and eventually, universal single payer will just be the logical next step. Remember that even Bush expanded Medicare drug plans.
Yes, meanwhile the fair and just capitalist, free market health care providers have people's care as their #1 priority, never reject a claim, and no one has ever died as a result of their greed. Get some perspective
The system we have now is flawed in many ways to be sure, but what we have is hardly a free market. We rely much too heavily on insurance, which has its roots in the tax codes. Add in all the regulations and mandates, and the gov't distortions on pricing, you see that we don't have a "free market" at all. We haven't for a long time. Plus the fact that the big corporations are the ones who write the laws anyway, the special interest is always served.
Dennis, you are completely right. Don't blame the free market for the sorry state of health care today. We know what health care in the free market looks like. After all, the last of the great free market experiment in the U.S. produced unparalleled bounty and wealth - as long as your name was Carnegie, or Rockefeller, or Vanderbilt.
As far is health care, it was also great - if you were Carnegie, et al - but for the rest of the peasants, it was little better than snake oil and hospice care.
I know this is why taxpayers don't buy into the USUPER'S bullshit. He's not eligible to be POTUS. People always want proof , the truth. No paperwork he's the unknown citizen ?
The morons running the US into the ground have been counterfeiting money since 1971.
You perceive that your money is safe in US dollars, nothing backing it right its all paper. The Chinee gov. just told their entire population to buy gold and silver. Like clue in hamster...
Boots you strayed away from your point. We all know about the economic problems because we live it. Just get your order of power right and quit being such an ass. I like hamsters by the way!!
You idiots don't know your economic problems the central bank is counterfeiting the US Fed not into oblivion. You have other foreign bank in collusion with the counterfeiting operation.
The US Fed note is worthless not too many Americans know about that sad fact yet.
Boots920 attempts to devolve every on-point discussion about US politics into a litany of national disasters, with the objective of stupefying all readers into inaction.
Boot920 is the nom de Tube of Marvin the Depressed Robot. (TinyURL nlug76)
Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.
Plato
George Bush is a War Criminal, So is Tony Blair, Obama bows to royalty his none disclosure of a simple birth certificate and protection of war criminals proves he's a puppet not working for the American people's interests.
Boots, how can you be so smart about Bush being a WAR CRIMINAL but so STUPID on Obama's birth certificate? If you had opened your eyes, after pulling your head out of your anus, maybe you would realize how truly ignorant you are?
Bush a War Criminal True what's the current administration doing about that , nothing right.
Could it be Obama isn't even a legit leader , maybe ?
Or is crimes against humanity not a bit deal to you taxpayin hamsters ? Nixon War Criminal - Ford pardoned a war criminal. Don't see anyone objecting do you ?
boots, yes I do hope the DOJ does go after Bush officials for what they did. We are pushing for this and if they don't pus*y out, they will. Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld and all of them should go to Gitmo and be water-boarded 150+ times until they tell us what we want to hear, sorry for effin our country and reputation up. Killing our soliders and wounding 10's of thousands and how many Iraq's killed? Ford, scum for pardoning Nixon, you're not as stupid as I thought. Sorry for those comments
Okay Boots, it's time for your prozak. Please don't drive or type while on your medication. We suggested the same for Rush Limpbrain but that didn't work either.
Insurance corporations focused on minimizing "medical losses" to increase profits and shareholder value on the backs of the sick do not constitute "good people".
The rest of your post is pointless misdirection - unless you're willing to reveal your point...
Point is no matter who's in power they protect the criminal activity of the previous administration.
Why pay taxes for a government that destroys everything it touches and protects the evil fucks doing it.
Kind of pointless having a government that causes more harm than good isn't it ?
Insurance co's should be prosecuted by government for not fulfilling their contracts. Not the taxpayers they don't have enough resources to go up against big insurance co's do they ?
I have had private insurance for the last 50 years and never had a problem. I have dealt with various government agencies for the same period and have had countless problems. You must be young and naive.
I pay for my health Insurance and right now its $962.00 a month, I only have 3 HMOs to choose from, I want the public option so I have a choice and create more competition and by the way I'am 54 years old and I'am sick of getting dealt a bad hand with the HMOs dictating what they will pay and what they won't.
50 years and no health care issues - how wonderful for you!
Please check all that apply:
[ ] You've always been in a big pool through your employer.
[ ] You don't work for WalMart.
[ ] You've never been laid off for a period exceeding COBRA coverage.
[ ] You are in perfect health.
[ ] You are wealthy.
I share many of those blessings.
Roughly 50 million of our fellow citizens don't. But I'm old and optimistic that they (and my 2 grandchildren) will enjoy universal health care as a right.
It seems like President Obama has been learning what voices coming from fired up citizens can sound like. Yep. And it doesn't matter how many of his astroturfs the Dems bus in cuz people are yelling at him and he hears 'em. Yep. They are fired up! And President Obama knows it. And they are ready to go.. lol
Boots920 [Marvin]: So if we're toast, and there's no fixing this debacle, what is your interest in constantly attempting to side-track the discussion?
If you will kindly point to any factual errors I've made, I will retract them with sincere regret and profound appreciation.
Your theme seems to reject doing something about something in favor of doing nothing about anything. That's a cheap and intellectually lazy line of argument.
Your point seems to be that we should despair all hope for the future because of the mistakes we've made in the past.
I find that despicable and reject it completely.
I trust government about as far as I can throw it - but I believe that, with oversight, it can do a better job of health care delivery than for-rapacious-profit insurance corporations.
I choose not to run around screaming "We're FUCKED!" in my best Lewis Black imitation, but to do something positive.
I call it rejecting a pointless inference that we should abandon all hope.
Have you ever ever had a positive thought on what we *should* do? Are you so mired in depression and nihilism that you can't even try to interject a note of *constructive* criticism?
Yeah, we're working on all that (well, at least the first two). Right now we're going to fix health care. But good for you, coming up with something positive!
BTW, calling people hamsters and idiots is not going to win hearts and minds.
Yeah, talk is cheap Mr. President. How about you quit kissing GOP ass, pound those damned "Blue-Dog" Democrats on the head and get a bill WITH the public option passed through?
i was going to correct you and say it's greenville, nc, but it looks like there's greenville, nc, sc, and greenwood, sc, too.
i do like your equation, though; sure seems that way. unfortunately, democrats + money = corrupt or at least complacent. i've been calling my senators and reps and haranguing them, also the white house comments line. i'm fired up and ready to go.
I Think he is back in track, people easily get lost in the daily Bambooza from Fox and other big USA media. The problem we have is some Big lobby Liberal Congress that still dont want this reform. I Think Obama knows who they are and he will use the same way he killed Mccains dream.
If he'd said 'We can get Full/Decent/Relevant/Public' healthcare reform passed, I would be impressed. But just like he said, he already gave this speech. How ready to go are you? How fired up are you? If you can't pass the major legislation you promised with full governmental control and
I continue to be amazed at how Republicans have tricked average people to be against labor unions. Even if you don't totally agree with unions how could you be anti-labor. Unions have only contributed to increased minimum wage, weekends off, holidays, paid leave, health benefits, etc....
A popular uprising in favor of price gouging, rapacious private insurance companies? Only in America.
In most countries, citizens are suspicious of large corporations, but here, in the US, people, people believe that it is the poor who run the country.
this is all well and good, but what I'd like to hear is an explanation of the past couple weeks. I'm still behind him, but I'm getting pretty disillusioned with this lack of focus in the reform efforts. Anthony Weiner seems more focused on Obama's policy than he does.
if you look at the other parts of this speech, I almost think he might be using a strategy where he tried to just let the fear-mongering and anger about the healthcare debate die off...you know, let the republicans get distracted by something shiny....and then when they stop going nuts....he comes back with it full force and catches them off guard.
at least thats what i want to think.
and it does make some sense-i mean, why debate something for a whole month of recess if people dont get it?
Well, I hope you're right on that. I keep hearing about how the public option is out, then in, then out, and that the real progressives are viewed by some as an obstacle now. I know Obama continues to mention the public option in his speeches, but it seems less and less insistent.
To be honest, I don't understand how this decision is being made. Some people make it seem like this "Gang of 6" is the real force behind the bill, and I believe they're half Republicans. Seems regressive to me.
GREat speech!!!!!! YES WE can fired up!!!! anyone can listen to criticizers on the sidelines spewing hate in their disagreements...he didnt say YES HE can He said yes WE CAN. EVERYONE PLAYS A PART.
hate is a strong word. Why do you hate obama? Do you hate him because he's black? That wouldn't surprise me considering you supported John McCain who said "I hate gooks and I'll always hate gooks until the day I die".
Why don't you do the rest of humanity a favor and build a time machine and send yourself back to the 1800's?
definitely. hatred of people underlies something deeper. with regards to mccain though, i know many people who hate what he has become post election 2000 (post dirty tactics from the bush campaign). he seemed to take a change for the worse after that.
Gosh, I didn't think race had anything to do with it. I just assumed face40sp hated intellectually rigorous presidents who could construct grammatically correct sentences on the fly...

No tort reform cause he is scared of trial lawyers, no free market on healthcare like car insurance has, he has continued almost every policy bush has had post 9/11, he wants to spend spend spend, he gives preference to unions and community organizers with OUR money, he generates tension between political parties, and most importantly, he lies about being for the interest of american people
Zoklor 2 years ago
no, i'm not blind, your angry, cynical and deluded. who, except right-wing ideologues give a crap about tort reform?
what an absolute pile of worthless crap that a bunch of utterly angry, bigots use when they need something to shout about.
and how much more free market power do you want to give to health care giants so they can more systematically take more of our money to deny life saving treatments, procedures and medications when we actually need it.
sorry bro, but you are a fool
jasonsadventure 2 years ago 2
Zoklor:
What are you really afraid of?
wildwilly1111 2 years ago
Liberal/Neocon game of totalitarianism.
ProsperiaFan 2 years ago
I hate to be a bastard, but the American concept of freedom is not 'from' but rather 'to' as in 'freedom to... hold any religion, possess guns, hold public assembly... originally, to own slaves, yada yada... 'Freedom from' is the French revolution's concept of freedom, where one is free from tyranny.
So I hate to be a bastard, but you are not 'free from' but you are 'free to'. The essence of this means if you don't like something, it's down to you to exercise your rights to get it changed
MadDogOfist 2 years ago
We all have to deal with people that want to rationalize things to press tyranny upon us. We were to be "Free From" BigGovt (tyranny) Which allowed us to be "Free To" yada yada... See how it works?
ProsperiaFan 2 years ago
No, you're free from a monarch who can impose unfair taxation. If you elect a president who sets what you think are unfair levels of tax you can vote them out at the next election. That is exercising your rights.
There is nothing in the constitution identifying tyranny with 'biggovt' because tyranny is where the masses are at the mercy of the whims of a small, armed, minority. So, in a sense, all govt is tyranny, but you do not have the chance to vote out a true tyranny every four years.
MadDogOfist 2 years ago
The declaration of Independence states we are free from the monarch.
You know if I were to create a government, I think I would put that protection in there....O wait duh...Our Constitution's strength was the morals of our people. Constitution also outlines governments rolls and By no means is it BIGGOVT. Tyranny is not built in but created out of misinterpretation of ROL and rights. Aspirations of freedom compound as the ideals do.
ProsperiaFan 2 years ago
Yes, the morals of the people. If the government does not live up to the standards expected by the people then they will be voted out. The revolutionaries knew how terrible a thing civil war is, so that's why you celebrate the 'peaceful transaction of power' on inauguration day. The constitution also allowed for slavery, but that changed. The role of govt. has changed many times in your country - the idea that it could provide for the health of its citizenry would not have occurred to a founder.
MadDogOfist 2 years ago
"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrations), too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery." - Thomas Jefferson
His first draft is one to read. There are many reading that follow the cross sections of our founders agreement to create a limited Government.
Provide laws to restrict govt power.
ProsperiaFan 2 years ago
No, it wouldn't have occured to them, because there was no such thing even as healthcare (modern medicine wasn't).
But there were roads to build - for all to use. The advantages of a common currency.. etc.

Unions are Exempt from Obamacare as written in the bill
Unions will receive 10 Billion for their pensions as written in the bill.
Of course, government employees are Exempt as written in the bill.
So, I guess that means the other 85% of us can eat _ _ _ _.
dkkght46 2 years ago
dkkght46: "Unions are Exempt from Obamacare"
Yet another falsehood. This lie usually refers to section 164, which says nothing about unions but is a *temporary* measure that helps retirement funds deal with people not yet age-eligible for SS. And to thing $10B exempts *any* large class from health care reform is to seriously (by orders of magnitude) misunderstand the health care situation.
How can we have a serious discussion when you continue to misrepresent the facts?

wildwilly1111 2 years ago
Um, we cant have an honest discussion because this administration is saying one thing and doing another. I misrepresent nothing, if he wanted to discuss tort reform, he would have it in the bill. There is more to itthen tort reform, i wish the Obamabots would open their eyes and realize everything is not free and that they are selling you a lie.
Zoklor 2 years ago
You asked why Obama has "not even mentioned tort reform"
He obviously has. The Republicans weren't interested.
And even if he personally wrote one of the bill under discussion, why would he throw in such a nugget without getting something for it?
He did bring it up. You misrepresented the facts.

a) We're talking Obama, not Biden.
b) Please point to the speech where Biden the VP took a stance against tort reform. (Not Biden the Senator or Biden the candidate.)

Reagan had a good bit of the union vote.
DillonX 2 years ago 2
You know whats funny Dillion, as you sit here and play Dem vs. Rep, most people have gone past that. They hate partisan arguing. The fact that both sides are lying through their ass makes people want to just go independent. Be careful who you follow so blindly into your demise. When all is done, people will be begging for tax reform and healthcare reform all over again. Cause the only thing this bill will do is raise healthcare cost and raise taxes.
Zoklor 2 years ago
Why does he suck union dick so hard? Not like they do anything but siphon more money out of companies. Look at the car companies, they could not even afford their retirement plans.

Hope & Change!

dkkght46:
Section 164:
- Does NOT mention unions or community organizers - just retirees
- Is TEMPORARY
- is capped at $10B
- deals with people who have retired but are not old enough to qualify for Medicare and are insured by their former employer
The gist of this section is to provide some government assistance to the employer so said employer can comply with the cost restrictions that will be established in this health care bill.

Remember that even Bush expanded Medicare drug plans.
dennist3hmenace 2 years ago
Yes, meanwhile the fair and just capitalist, free market health care providers have people's care as their #1 priority, never reject a claim, and no one has ever died as a result of their greed. Get some perspective
BrightLighter 2 years ago 3
The system we have now is flawed in many ways to be sure, but what we have is hardly a free market. We rely much too heavily on insurance, which has its roots in the tax codes. Add in all the regulations and mandates, and the gov't distortions on pricing, you see that we don't have a "free market" at all. We haven't for a long time. Plus the fact that the big corporations are the ones who write the laws anyway, the special interest is always served.
My point is, don't blame the free market.
dennist3hmenace 2 years ago
Dennis, you are completely right. Don't blame the free market for the sorry state of health care today. We know what health care in the free market looks like. After all, the last of the great free market experiment in the U.S. produced unparalleled bounty and wealth - as long as your name was Carnegie, or Rockefeller, or Vanderbilt.
As far is health care, it was also great - if you were Carnegie, et al - but for the rest of the peasants, it was little better than snake oil and hospice care.

Yeah, we're working on all that (well, at least the first two). Right now we're going to fix health care. But good for you, coming up with something positive!
BTW, calling people hamsters and idiots is not going to win hearts and minds.

Yeah, talk is cheap Mr. President. How about you quit kissing GOP ass, pound those damned "Blue-Dog" Democrats on the head and get a bill WITH the public option passed through?

agreed

It's Greenville, SC not Greenwood, SC but it's okay. It's an hour away from where I stay.
Shake them haters off Mr President!
Republicans + Education = Stupid

i was going to correct you and say it's greenville, nc, but it looks like there's greenville, nc, sc, and greenwood, sc, too.
i do like your equation, though; sure seems that way. unfortunately, democrats + money = corrupt or at least complacent. i've been calling my senators and reps and haranguing them, also the white house comments line. i'm fired up and ready to go.

I hear that.
I'm hoping we'll look back this time next year and see that he was playing it smart, playing it right.
That's my starry-eyed dreamer side.
Then there's the side that's saying "WTF is he doing?"

GO OBAMA ! GO USA !
fsrafols 2 years ago 4
I Think he is back in track, people easily get lost in the daily Bambooza from Fox and other big USA media. The problem we have is some Big lobby Liberal Congress that still dont want this reform. I Think Obama knows who they are and he will use the same way he killed Mccains dream.
Waranle 2 years ago
If he'd said 'We can get Full/Decent/Relevant/Public' healthcare reform passed, I would be impressed. But just like he said, he already gave this speech. How ready to go are you? How fired up are you? If you can't pass the major legislation you promised with full governmental control and

Empty words. Why don't you do something?

I continue to be amazed at how Republicans have tricked average people to be against labor unions. Even if you don't totally agree with unions how could you be anti-labor. Unions have only contributed to increased minimum wage, weekends off, holidays, paid leave, health benefits, etc....

A popular uprising in favor of price gouging, rapacious private insurance companies? Only in America.
In most countries, citizens are suspicious of large corporations, but here, in the US, people, people believe that it is the poor who run the country.
Corporations = Benevolence
Poverty = Power
Poor = Evil
Rich = Altruism
Pure Orwell.

You said it way better than I ever could.
terrence0258 2 years ago
this is all well and good, but what I'd like to hear is an explanation of the past couple weeks. I'm still behind him, but I'm getting pretty disillusioned with this lack of focus in the reform efforts. Anthony Weiner seems more focused on Obama's policy than he does.

if you look at the other parts of this speech, I almost think he might be using a strategy where he tried to just let the fear-mongering and anger about the healthcare debate die off...you know, let the republicans get distracted by something shiny....and then when they stop going nuts....he comes back with it full force and catches them off guard.
at least thats what i want to think.
and it does make some sense-i mean, why debate something for a whole month of recess if people dont get it?
zndprophet 2 years ago
Well, I hope you're right on that. I keep hearing about how the public option is out, then in, then out, and that the real progressives are viewed by some as an obstacle now. I know Obama continues to mention the public option in his speeches, but it seems less and less insistent.
To be honest, I don't understand how this decision is being made. Some people make it seem like this "Gang of 6" is the real force behind the bill, and I believe they're half Republicans. Seems regressive to me.
cokmobot 2 years ago
yeah i definitely hear you though...i've been real let down over the past month, by Obama, and by the American people...
It seems some people are scared of change when there's actually an opportunity for it, and it seems like Obama might be one of those people.
but his tone in this speech seems much more forceful and passionate than anything he's said in the past month, and there might be a reason for that.
But yeah, if they cant pass this with a P.O. I'm gonna be very disappointed in them.

obama obama obama...
sigh.
i hate you..
face40sp 2 years ago
hate is a strong word. Why do you hate obama? Do you hate him because he's black? That wouldn't surprise me considering you supported John McCain who said "I hate gooks and I'll always hate gooks until the day I die".
Why don't you do the rest of humanity a favor and build a time machine and send yourself back to the 1800's?
pokermaster54 2 years ago 2
i totaly agree with that. When you resort to hate there is allways something hidden. In this case it's obviously racism.
Do anyone know someone who hates McCain. Maybe one dislike him, but hate ? Never heard anyone saying he hates Mc Cain.
Melpheos1er 2 years ago 3
definitely. hatred of people underlies something deeper. with regards to mccain though, i know many people who hate what he has become post election 2000 (post dirty tactics from the bush campaign). he seemed to take a change for the worse after that.
