It always cracked me up that the drive-in ads showed women wearing evening gowns to the drive in. Actually, women and girls fairly often wore curlers to the drive-in, especially if it was Saturday. Our mother always put up our hair in those awful brush rollers before we went to the drive-in Saturday night. I miss drive-in movies, but not the brush rollers!

The next day, my hair had dried blood in it, but it was curly and that was what was important! I still have a little bald spot on the top of my head to remind me!
It wasn't just THIS ad that was banned. ALL cigarette ads were banned as of 12 midnight, January 1, 1970. The last cigarette ad aired in the US was for Kent cigarettes. It aired at 11:58 p.m. on December 31, 1969 from Seattle, Washington. I used to love cigarette commercials. They had this kind of dreamy quality. They made me want to rush out and buy a pack of Salem 100s so I could destroy my lungs. (Actually methol sucks. My dad called them polar bear farts)

If memory serves, I think cigarette advertising was still allowed at drive-in theaters, even after the ads were banned on television. I don't think smoking was ever allowed in indoor movie theaters.

I worked as an usher in an indoor theater in the 1970's, smoking was never allowed. I also worked as a projectionist at a drive in for several years and in the snack bar also, (I basically did all the jobs), of course cigarettes were sold and used in the outdoor drive in.

Well weed is not as unhealthy as cigarettes, but it may give you cancer, it's just that the risk is lower, and it rearenges the way your neurons are arrenged, it's not unhealthy if you smoke weed once in a while, but if you smoke a lot it may be unhealthy

You know, as awful as it is to see a little kid smoking a cigarette, I sometimes wish we lived in a world where smoking wasn't such a taboo (like in the 50s and 60s). I don't smoke, but I have lived with smokers all my life (including my husband). Don't even give me any of that garbage about how "second hand smoke kills." Maybe the real problem is that we are TOO safe.

I know you think it's cool to smoke but the longer you smoke the harder it will be to quit. @jackslicl100 : i dont smoke weed so I have no dog in this fight......cigarettes are loaded with chemicals and toxins "added by the tobacco companies" (pot does not)to do various things to the cigarette....like keep it burning without puffing on it, manipulate the taste and nicoteen level. Nicoteen alone is "not" harmful....it's the "tar" that coats your lungs and causes the cells to become cancerous.....no study has yet linked pot to cancer BUT.....it may cause emphazema and trouble breathing

Well weed is not as unhealthy as cigarettes, but it may give you cancer, it's just that the risk is lower, and it rearenges the way your neurons are arrenged, it's not unhealthy if you smoke weed once in a while, but if you smoke a lot it may be unhealthy

heck, I had my very first one out in the doghouse when I was 4. I snuk it out of my grandma's pack when she wasn't looking. At one time, they even had a smoking lounge for the senior students at the high school that I went to, where they could not only just smoke, but also watch MTV.

If a six year old starts smoking now, they will get addicted, and if they are lucky enough to survive to adult hood, they will be more disease prone, have bad breath, and a raspy voice. its not just the law, its common sence
