  • @tjrtherocksponge I don't know that I'd say it was the first Roger Solo effort...many of the songs were written prior to and durring the recording of DSOTM.

  • Roger was being such a diva(o) at the time.1977-1983

  • @PinkFloydRules1992

I couldn't agree more. Van Halen is a great guitar player, but David Gilmour is a great guitarist. There's a HUGE difference between guitar player and guitarist.

  • FLOYD FUCKIN´ RULES!!

  • @PinkFloydRules1992 David didn't write the songs that include his best guitar work.

  • @YoussefFishere Dogs? Comfortably Numb? He wrote those.

  • @Chrisdrumz It depends on what you mean by "writing a song". Lyrics or music?

  • @YoussefFishere Rog was the lyricist, but Dave DID write the bulk of the music for those.

  • @Chrisdrumz Yes, yes he is...most lead guitarists write their own music.

  • @YoussefFishere Yes,it is true most lead guitar players do indeed write their own music however later Floyd was an exception. Rog had become the main writer. Of all the songs on THE WALL Dave only wrote(co wrote) 3 and he wrote NOTHING on THE FINAL CUT(not that he had much say or really cared at that point). I suspect Dave had more of a role in writing other songs but Roger was adamant that only HE get credit. Dave has always been more passive than the confrontational Roger.

  • @Chrisdrumz Actually, concerning The Final Cut. David and Rick were getting sick of Roger's attitude. Roger thought he was the band, and the rest of the band were simply there to make him look good. It started to be a source of annoyance, so both of them "went on strike". David stopped writing songs. Rick stopped playing his instrument. At that point, Roger, as the "leader" of the band, kicked Rick out of the band. David had no income at all in The Final Cut except for the guitar solos.

  • Sorry, the maximum number of characters allowed bothered me.

...David's passivity was his way of confronting Roger.

  • @YoussefFishere It's a passive aggresive thing. Wounds that have never healed. Although Rog has "buried the hatchet" I think Dave never will forgive Rog for the wrongs he feels were comitted against him. I also think Dave would rather not tell Rog how he REALLY feels about him. Actually,Rick was kicked out during THE WALL sessions. He was on salary for the Wall tours and because he was no longer a genuine member of the band,he was the only one to make any money.

  • @Chrisdrumz Indeed.

  • @Chrisdrumz He wasn't kicked out he left , cause he couldn't stand Roger Waters

  • @FcBarcaman1193 Roger wanted him out. He was told he had to go. They allowed him to perform as a salary player for The Wall shows as a way for him to say goodbye. Dave had even suggested getting rid of Nick, but Roger was against it.

  • @Chrisdrumz Wtf why Nick ? he didn't do anything ? either by this point Roger had become a dick , he was controlling Pink Floyd , to be honest personally I prefer David Gilmour any day

  • @FcBarcaman1193 Actually it was DAVE who suggested Nick be let go but because Nick and Roger were still close Rog didn't wanna hear it.

  • @Chrisdrumz Well it makes sense cause in a band basicslly the drummer and the bassist are usually good friends , but im saying that between the 4 members of Pink Floyd , my least favorite guy is Roger Waters

  • @Chrisdrumz Thats not right, it was Roger who wanted Nick out, because he declined to help him with The Wall.

  • @Xiolablu3 Yes,it is right. Roger said it himself. Nick didn't "decline" to help with The Wall. In fact,Nick has said he enjoyed making the album and his drumming benefited greatly from working with Ezrin(he even learned to read music charts). Dave suggested dumping Nick and it was quickly vetoed by Roger.

  • @Chrisdrumz Sorry I got Nick and Rick mixed up lol oops

  • @Chrisdrumz Where are you getting this info from? Even in Nick's book he talks about having major problems with Roger wanting to control everything, he never talks mentions having problems with Dave.

  • 2:06 - 2:12 :o)

  • 3:00 wth? Lol, thought he was playing Since I've Been Loving You for a second.

  • Check out MY version of this Pink Floyd classic, "Money" on me channel.

  • I was there. Was a GREAT show. But it was the wish you were here tour. The tickets had the burning men on them. They played all of Wish you were here, took a break...everyone went nuts thinking they were gone. They came back and played all of Animals, pigs flying overhead. Then they walked off the stage. The place really went nuts. Screaming, clapping, not you normal German crowd. They they came back played money and left. Place went nuts for 20 minutes. Then we left. GREAT SHOW

  • Really bad sax solo for this MONEY live.

Dave Gilmour is a guitar player inside the history of rock music. With or without PINKFLOYD. :-D

  • @marcoscotti its an old tape, over the years the sound qaulity changes and speed of the tape, even through modern day file shareing the actual pitch gets tweak a little

  • Animals????????

  • lol 0:37, david gilmour looks like god.

  • Wasn't this concert called "In the Flesh"?

  • Simply Superb.

  • I've never understood why a band of Pink Floyds stature has virtually no live footage pre The Wall. You'd think if your doing a world tour you would at least pay to have a couple of performances filmed proffesionally. What a tragedy...people would kill to see this stuff.

  • i totally agree

  • I don't think I'd kill but I know I'd probably pee on myself from excitement-haha--:)

  • @BigNeonGlitterGirl Don't need pee either. :D

  • I probably kill for see this stuff!!!

  • Haha! I meant that 4 you--ooops--:)

  • @Tazer691 absolutely right!!! on Nick Mason's book "Inside Out" he doesn't comment about it... that's a shame

  • agree +100

I, too, have no idea why they never had these shows filmed professionally. This was the band's heyday.

  • @Tazer691 I couldn't agree more, that or at least a quality live album from their 70's tours. I think it was because they always wanted to maintain an air of mystery around themselves. And with the exception of films like The Last Waltz, few people knew how to film bands of that era correctly

  • @Tazer691--Because the mystery adds to the intrigue.

  • @Tazer691 They have. But is on sale

  • @Tazer691 so true but like it was said at the hall of fame they didnt use their image to attain legendary status they sold records. but god to see them at there prime animals/wish u were here tours would be great on footage

  • i wish a dvd of this tour, amaziiinggg!!!

  • It's the same on DVD as on youtube. Just something like "Best Of 'In The Flesh'". The full videos - to my knowledge - aren't available on DVD yet. The DVD is called 8MM, if I remember correctly.

  • UH- MAZE - ING!

  • amazing video! i love it!

  • Huge sound here! Incredible time back then

  • fucking WOW!!

  • Intense!!

  • thanks for the video!!!

  • Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

  • "Wish I was there" - man. This was , I suppose, their best tour. What a selection of great songs.

I love the atmosphere of "Animals"

  • I agree, as much as the band hated that tour, I really feel it was their best in terms of setlists. it was almost a Floyd "Best of". The first half was Animals played in a different order than the album, then the 2nd half was "Wish.." in order with "Us & Them" and ""Money" as encores. Man, I wish I could've been there!

  • "Animals" 1977 was their last true tour as a band. as far as a band at the peak of their abilities; before anyone got kicked out (apologies to Syd). playing music with equal contribution from all 4 members. I love The Wall album, but it's a Roger Waters solo album with Dave & Nick. Animals was their swansong. best band of all time going out in spectacular fashion.

  • Where can we get a copy of this entire performance?

  • Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".

  • Yeah, I've been looking for some type of Animals footage for the longest time. Good stuff man.

  • Super nice! Thanks for posting that!!!

    ~~

    Luna

  • """Yes Money is from DSotM, but Money was played on Animals 77' tour together with full Animals album and Wish You Were Here"""

that is 100 % correct,,saw it in Baton Rouge on red blotter ...........pretty hard to forget

  • @whodem Money and Us & Them were their encores on that tour. And at the show in Oakland, they even did "Careful with that Axe Eugene". I have the audio boot of that show, completely shocks the audience

  • where is all that fucking stuff!!....... the post is very good but it ´s inot complete... i like it!!

  • Yes, I want that shirt, too. It's soooooooo cool!

  • dog

  • i want that shirt david has on

    on 1:05

  • yeah dude....that shirt screams pink floyd fan!!! hahaha

  • Why do you keep saying that in every video?

  • So that people will say stuff like "why do you keep saying that in every video?".

  • Oh, thats pretty cool. But don't you ever wonder if doing that will ever pay off in the end? I mean, it kind of sounds like a waste of time. Not trying to put down your line of work or anything, just trying to get some answers.

  • because he's an poor idiot

  • this means a great deal to me.part 2.

  • Just one thing to say...."Money" is not from Animals, but from Dark Side of The Moon...

  • Yes Money is from DSotM, but Money was played on Animals 77' tour together with full Animals album and Wish You Were Here.

  • Yes but they played it on the animals tour in 77

  • A guitar player's skill isn't based on how fast they can hit notes. It's how they can put those notes together.

I don't want to dis the Floyd, but if Joe Satriani or Dave Mustaine were to have replaced David, Pink Floyd would have come and gone very fast.

  • yeah, thats right^^

  • you lose all credibility when you mention mustaine in the same sentence as satriani...I think even mustaine would agree.

  • aha

  • im sorry, but satch looks like a fag (plays good though) dave is the riffmaster of all time. but aint great at leads. and don't get me wrong, megadeth is my 2nd favorite band. friedman all the way!! and gilmour all the way!!!!

  • David Gilmour "aint great at LEADS"???? are you insane dude

  • fuck

  • david gilmour really is the best guitarist of all time. i meen, eddie van halen is a really great guitarist as well, but you gotta remember, van halen was a band that came, and went pretty fast. and pink floyd was like '65-'95 and pink floyd is considered the band w/ the best story behind it. david gilmour has more talent and he wrote most of those songs that include his best guitar work. pink floyd is the best band in the world and david gilmour is the best guitarist.

  • Man, you're right. There's nothing more to say. David Gilmour is the greatest guitar player of all time.

  • Amen, that is the thing people overlook. he has so many amazing guitar parts and so much quality material out that he could be the best guitar player ever, my personal favorite at least! The other thing is that the speed that others play doesn't make them better, i'm sure he could play fast if he wanted. He plays so clean and with more emotion than anything else i've ever heard

  • he puts all of his emotions in one note while others put almost nothing in 10000000000notes.

  • Yes, you're right. In material like careful with that axe or even there on other live concerts he shows his skills. But that's not the point of his playing. It is awesome, but Gilmour is the best because his amazing feeling for guitar. He makes it cry

  • Roger Waters wrote most of Pink Floyd songs not D Gilmour but he is a brilliant guitarist though.

  • That's only tru from about 1975 and on. They co-wrote ALOT of songs from DSOTM and back.

  • @PinkFloydRules1992 If you stop and think about it, what you're talking about is "song writing" that's made Pink Floyd a more substantial band than Van Halen and not necessarily David Gilmour as a guitarist. Which ever band is more substantial is all opinion though really. Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. I like them more than Van Halen, but if someone asked who is a more impressive guitarist, I'd say Eddie (circa 80's-early 90's). I think he's the best there was, but Gilmour is my fav.

  • @PinkFloydRules1992 Haha judgine by name I had to say something lol. I don't think Van Halen was a band that came and went, there kind of getting up there with the legends now, they just went through so much drama ya know

  • @PinkFloydRules1992 I agree that Gilmour is one of the best, but let's not forget Zappa!

  • Hang on a minute. There's two female backing singers. I thought the In the Flesh tour was the first two since pre-dark side that the Floyd never used backing singers?

  • 1. David Gilmour (The talent of hendrix but with unbelievable tone, no doubt the greatest guitarist of all time nobody comes close. It doesn't even sound like a guitar, it's more like a voice)

    2. Jimi Hendrix

    3. Eric Clapton & Jimmy Page

    4. Angus Young (yes the guy from AC/DC)

    5. Stevie Ray Vaughn

The one true list all who are true to themselves and the greats will agree.

  • ever heard about individual sensitivity ? to each his own.

  • yes but if there ever was to be a list this would be it, its just I'm fed up with all these idiots idolising people who don't play the guitar, but (sorry for this) wank it instead...

  • Eddie van halen...the most influencial guitarist since hendrix...then gilmour

but then again the age-old answer to the age-old discussion...there is no greatest guitarist

    =VH=

  • Martin Barre From Jethro Tull Is An Exellent Guitar Player, One Of The Best

  • Gilmour is sooo much better than anyone else in my opinion its painful. Nobody seems to be able to evoke emotion from a guitar in the way he can.

I remember the first time i properly listened to pink floyd, i ddnt jst go 'wow that sounds good'. I ddnt even nod my head as it played.

I jst sat back to the comfortably numb or time solo, had a musical orgasm and sat there in awe of such perfection.

  • Another one to join the clan, thanks for agreeing with what's obviously right, anyone who says otherwise is wrong......

Oh and Eddie Van halen wanks the guitar he doesn't play it thats to 5150jordan by the way...

  • "Nobody seems to be able to evoke emotion from a guitar in the way he can. "

This is my opinion as well...

  • where can i find that tour dvd?

  • dosen exist

  • thats not pink floyd.

  • youre taking the fucking piss mate, that is deffo floyd

  • ye it is floyd, sry i was rly stoned.

  • ha are you serious? you're an idiot...

  • yeah it was

  • at 2:52 when David starts the soft part of the solo......my god.

  • Its a Fake-it-make-beleive-video; there's no evidence of such video or footages of the animals tour being released as of yet.see at the end it says 8mm,meaning what???

  • I wonder if they knew at the time thgat they were being chewed up by the big machine?.....I still remember news reports about all the drug busts at Long Beach Arena or Anaheim....I was wishing I was there!

  • man please givee uss the link for download the video

i know you have it xD

  • Does anyone know where to find some Animals, live? It's so hard to find any videos.

  • Awesome.. saw the wembly goi two nights on the trot in 77 ... best gigs ever.. nothing will ever compare.. not even gilmour at RAH in 2006...... 77 and they were so raw.

  • How did you get multiple camera angles? Did you have the camera on the jumbo-tron, or is this professional footage?

  • This is likely pro footage shoot for Roger's personal use - he often takes archival footage of performances for clues about how the various shows went. There were cameras all over at his 2007 Chicago performance for his Dark Side of the Moon Live Tour I was at, but no talk of releasing any of it.

  • Its an audience camera with audio from a different '77 show ( possibly Oakland) dubbed over it. There was no pro footage of the Animals tour, and if by some slim chance there is some,I would KILL to see it

  • I really wish there was more live Floyd out there.

  • i didn't know snowey white played with them on the animals tour. i thought he only played with them on the wall tour.

  • Watch 2.53 Golden Glimour

  • sweet :) true golden!

  • Besides, when he made The Final Cut entirely by himself, we can see that musically it doesn't sound like Floyd. Still a good album. But Gilmour's style placed AMLOR and Division Bell on top of the charts, and Roger's albums plummeted. That talks tremendously about the musical influence all four guys had. I personally like roger's albums, but they are not Floyd sond... i just think he was desperate for attention and credit and was frustrated of not receiving it the way he wanted.

  • Yea, but if you reversed names on albums....I bet you would have Amused to Death with Pink Floyd's name on it..much higher than the hired on help of those fodder albums Gilmour put out.

  • Also, I think Roger with his contributions to composing and lyrics, felt he was in Gilmour's shadow somehow. The songs were about Roger's feelings, but the singer was Dave in most of them, and the guitar parts were incredible... so i think he felt there was low credit to him.

  • You have no idea of what you're talking about

  • Yes I do, the video segues (in time) from drums to guitar scenes without swivels.

  • gilmore sang song after song about how much syd was missed and about how lamentable his whole decline was, etc... if anyone was in anyone's shadow, it was dave in syd's, and he handled it with more class than most any other rock star would have.

  • I think that the difference was Gilmour's own style to Roger's base composing. If one read all interviews and notices something, the moment Gilmour entered, the band started moving towards rock and roll without the tremendous amounts of psychodelia. Gilmour sings in almost every Floyd song before Animals. So I think that musically, they both wanted to head in different directions. The Final Cut is Roger's album, Animals (real rock n' roll) is almost entirely played by Gilmour (bass and guitar)

  • superb..I saw this tour in England..Stafford..still have the program..cost me £1,oo..crazy..tickets were.

    £3.50..those were the days..I was 16,,,

  • From what i saw on an interview, Rick had a bit of a cocaine habit at that time and Roger did not like it.

  • Roger started rejecting Rick Wright's material during the Animals period and on top of that Rick was going through a divorce. When Waters fired Wright, David Gilmour has stated repeatingly he was against Waters' decision (though Waters claimed otherwise).

  • @obcpwaves was Ricks album "Wet Dream"the stuff of his that was rejected from Animals?

  • Wow i was 5 when this happened. I remember my uncles buying the record and bangin it out on thier stratocasters in the attic

  • Ouffff!!!! wow!!!!!! Suprême years and all of band.

Époque charnière au dénoumant légendaire du concert de Montréal avec le fameux cracha.

  • Absolutely best band ever. But does anybody know why Roger Waters ever forced Rick Wright to leave the band??? Never had an answer on this question...

  • during the wall sessions, rick wright didnt show up to record, he didnt want to do the wall album and was sick of roger, in fact theres alot of the wall album recorded by a different guy not rick

  • According to Wall album co-producer and engineer James Guthrie and Floyd historian Vernon Fitch's book on The Wall, Wright played on practically the whole album save the organ on In the Flesh (both parts) played by Fred Mandel, the piano on Nobody Home both by Bob Ezrin and synthesizer on ABitW III by DG.

  • From another interview with gilmour, gilmour says he was "free" to do what he wants without Roger in the way. I thought that was funny. They still don't seem complete without one another....musically speaking. I've seen them both at two seperate concerts, both using the name Pink Floyd. I thought Gilmour, Wright and Mason was the best. Roger had a pretty good guitarist, who i think did some work for Stevie Ray Vaughn at some point. I don't remmember. Anyway, shine on!

  • Roger Waters has never gone out as Pink Floyd. He took gilmour and co to court over the use of the name Pink Floyd and lost, that was back in about 1986/7 before Floyd released Momentary Lapse of Reason.

  • I remember that. Roger was an original member, but so is Nick. So there really was a tough argument. Gilmour was Syd's replacement.

  • That's correct, but David has been with them since 1968 so the fact that he was Syds replacement was irrelevent in this situation. They had for all intents and purposes been in the band for the same amount of time. The judge saw fit to allow Dave and Nick to use the name Pink Floyd as there was two of them and there was only Roger fighting his corner.

  • Good point. Ideally, i think Dave and the rest of the gang did more with it than Roger did. Don't get me wrong. Roger is a great composer. I just think he lost some creativity without the rest of them. I saw both seperate sides of the band and Gilmour rocked way better

  • Rumor is that Roger felt the Rick did not contribute enough material to the album. Don't know if there were bad feelings between the two of them before this. He was paid a flat fee for finishing his keyboard parts on the album and for the tour.

  • Rick is the only one that made money on The Wall tour lol.

Roger fired him because Roger and a bit of Dave wrote all the music and gave it to Rick to come up with keyboard parts. Several months later Rick still hadnt come up with anything.

  • BEST BAND THERE'S EVER BEEN!!!

  • On the 77 Animals tour they played all of Animals followed by all of Wish you were here and encored with Money and Us and Them...... Philly Spectrum...unforgetable

  • I salute the guy that created this brilliant vid and for the guy who posted this gem boy does this kick some grade A ass!!!!!

  • was that Snowy White playing rythem guitar? I heard that he has toured with them for the Animals tour and The Wall.

  • yes it is mate.

  • That is some mind blowing shit. Just saw Roger Waters last week and I'm trying to get up to NY next week to see him again. Can't get enough of this stuff....

  • was that in the point???

  • prime, its their fucking prime

  • I like how the lights on the cranes moving around looks like UFOs :)

  • Brilliant

  • awesome!

  • What song is playing a 2:52 of this video?...

  • i think its just the middle quiet part of the money solo with the bassline slowed down too

  • they're just breaking Money down so they can do solos

Notice how it's the same chord progressions

Jam bands like Phish and those other cats do it all the time...when I had a band we called it "improv"

  • shit i wish i was around in the 70s so i could see them they are so fucking sweet

  • I think i will stand for every one when i can say that this is Floyd at their best no doubt this is incrdiable soo awesome i dont know how to spell it, i just wish they recorded this wish you were here and dark side would have been fantastic

  • David looks so bad ass

  • Best audience vid of Pink Floyd.
