  • Starship troopers anyone?

  • They're also called Robber Crabs because they steal shinny things like that spoon

  • omg i realy wanna pull an arm off

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS DAT TING?!!!

  • I want the spoon! You will give me the spoon! I don't care that it's yours but I will rule the spoon!

  • MY SPOOOOOOON!!! >:D

  • They live in French Polynesia

  • @iaminaweshaw also melanesia

  • O_O...

  • Well crap....the video ends without me learning how to pick it up.....it cuts off right at "you come around this way and you put these two...." You put these two WHAT WHERE?!?!? I can only assume that the correct way is to stick your two index fingers in the claws of the crab itself....this way it can't pinch down on anything but your index fingers, and you are pretty safe, seeing as how fingers are pretty tough! This is my best guess...Im gonna try it out when I go to Vanuatu next week. :)

  • Catching these things is tricky because a small one will take a finger off without any effort, and a large one will do the same to your hand....ouch...need a hand with that?

  • DON'T TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN! You make it look like a spider.

I can pick up crabs I even handled a giant sheep crab once, they don't bother me at all, but I can't even be in the same room with a house spider. Everything about them freaks me out. :(

  • @Ackack86 Hehe. I love spiders. Got many tarantulas and if any of these crabs breed in captivity and become available, I may have another addiction.

  • apparently, they're strong, but if they got a hold of ur hand, it wouldn't nip or rip it off, they will just hold it, the only way to get them off is to shine a light on its fleshy parts of its arms then it will let go.

  • I have a strange obsession with these things I think they are awesome. This one reminds me of a toxic crab from Half-Life 2. Just about as scary looking as the one in the game and just as big it's so awesome.

  • a few seconds after the vid finishes the crab lets go of the spoon and rip's the guy's fingers off ^_^

  • its a spider

  • @deadj417 its a crab

  • @CheyRawrz its a trap

  • holy shiii it's alien 0:09

  • MY SPOON!! MIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!

arent they also called robber clabs?

  • Fuck me side ways this is a big fucking crab infact no...some kind of alien being!!

  • did you buy it

  • no..a local guy caught it, we let it chew on a Hinana can for a while...then we let it go

  • 0o0o that thing looks big and dangeourus

  • female.....

  • imagine those pinching your nuts

  • Snip-snip, you bugger, let loose of the spoon...

    down...

    DOWN....

Man, I would just fill my atrium with these guys and get a whole bunch of coconuts weekly.

  • like a huge spider

  • Funny idea, it's thought that if a crustacean can go through life without experiencing physical trauma or sickness, that they have an indefinite lifespan.

  • is that really a possibility?

  • Indeed it is! Do a little reading on it. I think one of the largest ever found was 25-30 something pounds, and they caught it and kept it on display in a restaurant. Then they released it and it eventually died due to some illness.

  • hmm? pretty rare for something dat does not get sick often die from an ailment ): /

  • These things can over 4 foot long and live for 30 years - the one here is a baby. They are native in Vanuatu/Solomon Islands. Get this - they taste awful (hence they are usually covered in chilli sauce) and there is suprisingly little meat on them - and its bloody hard work to get what tiny meat is there out. Why bother killing this animal that is endangered, just to feed tourist curiosity?

Please dont eat any while visiting the Pacific Islands. thanks

    SAVE THE COCONUT CRAB

  • agreed kaikai - save the Cocnut Crab - why kill such a unique and rare creature. tourists should be discouraged from this

  • @kaikai64 I usually don't reply to a 2 year old comment but...are you nuts ? I lived in the Marshall Islands for a few years and we caught coconut crab all the time. It's the most delicious meat I've ever tasted.Delicate, coconut flavored, plenty of meat, and even comes with it's own coconut oil pouch for dipping. It's even delicious raw. I've NEVER seen it with chili sauce...ever.I just don't understand how anyone could think they taste awful.

  • @nerblebun thanks for helping the cause !!b

  • @andrewCNC905 When I lived in the Marshalls they were not endangered. They were plentiful and a staple in the natives diet. When were coconut crabs added to the endangered species list ? If in fact they are endangered.... of course I would leave them alone. I have great respect for Mother Nature.

  • A lot of them are found in Bora Bora.

  • whats the country that these things live?

  • French Polynesia

  • @iaminaweshaw When I went to Vanuatu thei where also heaps their.

  • @jasmini101 the samoa islands too.

  • how do you pick them up?

  • Carefully. D:

  • lol

  • Im hearing knicks gettin beat up?

  • Stay Away Or I'll Pinch You!

  • Fully grown, one these can take your hand off at the wrist as fast as you can say ouch.

  • They can be poisonous depending of what they eat.

  • You're supposed to cook it before you eat it.

  • inow i really want to know where i can get one, they must have lots of meet I LOVE CRAB!!!

  • Those things scare the shit out of me.

  • Totally.

  • I hope you're not planning to eat it or kill it.

  • We let him go.

  • they can grow to be really large
