Mate - little tip on the hammer that works for me: throw on the 6th rotation at 45 degrees just to bank the qualifying distance. For remaining throws, let the power bar go all way up until exactly half-way through the last bar and throw. You'll make 100m. HTH

When I was arcade champ of this game in 84, people used to use some knife trick on the speed/power buttons. But I was still faster than any of them. They were really at a disadvantage when running the hurdles.

In a local deli from my NJ hometown back in the 80's, they had a version of this arcade, but I suspect it may have been a bootleg arcade. (Arcade piracy was epidemic in those days.)

See, this particular arcade, instead of having buttons to tap, had a trak-ball. The faster you could spin the ball, the faster your character ran. It was literally impossible to lose.

I plan to rerelease this game for a portable-tabletop game concil called the revival. This consists of a screen from a game gear, speakers from a two cassio sa minni-synth keyboards and a pc engine or sega master system. I want to make it like real life with a wireless power pad and a javelen the sise of a memory stick. When you press start either will vibrate to let you know when you are ready.

One of the tricks, on the arcade model, was to have a comb or pen...something over your middle finger and under your ring and index finger- so you would tap as fast as you could at one finger and the other finger would automatically press down in that split second between taps

We had our own version of a cheat back then: if you'd wedge a pencil just right between your fingers you'd just have to press on side/button and the other would tap on its own thus getting generating phenominal speed (none of this newjack turbo joystick stuff).

Also anyone else recall the easter egg in the game...once you qualified in the javelin you could aim at some absurdly high angle and you'd take out a bird (or spider) I forget which [probably 1000+ beers 200+ whiskeys ago]. Good times.

The way to get all the records is to have two people playing. One concentrates on the trackball (or the buttons, in later models) and the other jumps, throws, etc. Every record in the game was held by TWO...what we called our "team". Hammer throw was hardest, high jump second hardest. Takes a while to get the timing right. We once tried to use a cordless power drill with a rubber disk attached, on the trackball but they didn't allow it. Damn.

back in the 80s I would see ridiculous times for the 100m like 5 seconds... I never knew how they did it becuase even in MAME with rapidfire it gets nowhere near...

i used to play this game in the 80`s and i ha all the world records except the hammer,i had world records at the fairground machine and 6 months later when the fairground came back my records were still there and the fair had been all around the country,i was obsessed in this game.
