I absolutely love this piece, well I love the movie too, but the little nose wrinkle at 3.00, shows just how much fun Kathryn is having. And because of that, so do we... Wonderful singing, wonderful movie, I am a very happy lady... *sighs* :0)x
I did autograph shows in the 80's - 90's. I did one with Kathryn and Howard Keel. Believe me they were both class acts. KG was an accomplished actress also. She could not dance though and they/she laughed( rehearsal) in the Showboat scene in which she was suppossed to do a little dance. She had a great sense of humor. She did not take herself seriously and wanted to be just a "regular guy'. She treated all her fans as equals. She always sent back autographs pictures when she was asked via mail.
Wasn't she just a lovely lovely woman? Bags more charisma, talent and natural beauty than a truckload of today's female "stars". I still cherish the memory of watching this movie as a 10- year old one Saturday afternoon on the BBC in the early 1970s. Magical. Thank you Kathryn. RIP
@CeliaMutation Kathryn, my eternal love! ahhhhhhhhhhh I am 75 years old so envy me, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw her films in their premieres!!! in the 1940's and 50's. all through the time I have not ceased to admire her, even today!!!!!!!!!!
She sings operatic notes which is not the typical soprano notes and most people can not sing like that only those who are trained to sing like that can. It is very hard to do that without making your voice crack because the natural singer can not sing such a high note like she did.
curiously she had strabismus, one eye looked left while the other looked right... didnt stop her career, made her rather lovely........but when did she sing at the Met if she did ??
sorry to inform all here that Ms Grayson died of natural cause on 17th February 2010 at her Los Angeles home aged 88. My heartfelt condolences to her family and her many fans. There will never be another like her.
Not only was she the most beautiful person who ever graced the screen but she had an even better voice!! Was a classy and humble person off the stage.
Being former Navy....this is one of my favorite films - i have seen several times.I never get tired of this performance. Her high notes could break glass i bet!
As I've said before, she is/was among the loveliest women in show biz and history, itself, was a class act, carried herself as a lady, had the voice of an angel.
I wonder if she enjoyed knowing that when she arrived on a set it was probably like when Gene Tierney did. They said for all practical purposes every else could just as well go home for every eye was on her, Gene, but I'm sure it was like that with Kathryn, too. What a gal!
Absolutely phenomenal! They really don't make 'em like this in Hollywood any more - listen to that clean attack on that final high F sharp! Phew, I don't think any of our modern day coloratura stars could have pulled that off so well and with such effortless charm...
