1970 in a shithole cajun town along La.1 there was a movie house with the mighty Ted playing one night,so me and some friends loaded up in a Volkswagon and drove from Metairie to see him. When the show started there was about 250 coonasses in the audience and Ted came out in white pants with a coontail tied in the back swingin on a tarzan rope down to the stage where a donkey was tied off on the side, and brother he played like there was 250,000 in the audience, I was in Heaven, the acid helped
Thanks for posting this! I was at this show! An unknown Def Leppard, who had just released their first album, opened. The Scorpians played second, and Ted was the main act. He came swinging out onto the stage, wearing a loin cloth. Oh, and the concert was GENERAL ADMISSION. No assigned seating. What a Free For All!
@DAVEHEATWOLE DUDE!!! I saw the same show on 7/1/1980 in the Mid South Colisium in Memphis. It was my 18th birthday present. My brother and I were about 10 rows from the front. I still have pictures of all three bands that I took with a 110 camera, including one of Ted swinging on the rope. Great times!
Without fail the most energetic guy to hit the stage. EVER! If you can still see him DO IT! 17 times for me. Trouble is I moved to Cali, and he stays in the Midwest a lot. Better hunting there.........
I was lucky enough to see Terrible Ted on this tour in Charlotte N.C. He was only wearing the tarzan wrap around his waist. No Shoes. On the last song/encore he jumped off a 30 ft speaker and played white buffalo. At the end he laid his guitar down on the ground and was stomping on it like a madman. The roadies came out and put a white sheet over his head like they were leading him to the insane asylum. It was classic Ted. Rock on TED...
@forjesus911 I saw The Nuge right here in Landover, MD. I'm a guitar player and I saw him jump that 30 ft off the amps. I don't know if you remember, but he was jammin' on a lead all the way to the ground. I was F'in blown away. He didn't miss a lick. Great White Buffalo is one of my all time favorites. BTW - we played wang dang as well as several other Nuge classics. I have never before or since seen such raw savage guitar playing in my life.
Went to a concert, in St. Louis, where Sammy opened for Ted. When Ted walked out on stage, the first thing he said was, "How the hell do I follow that???" I'd say he did a pretty good job! Those were the days of head splitting ROCK!!!
went to the wango tango tour back in 1980 in jax fla. ( damn i'm old) def leppard opened followed by the scorpions then ted came swingin out on a vine lookin like tarzan, loved it! still have the tickect stub
@joedirt206r I saw the same show, but in Phoenix, Arizona. Had no idea who Def Leopard even was. Ticket cost only 12 bucks, back in the days of general admission and lots of second hand smoke ;)
@joedirt206r I saw the "State Of Shock tour in Jax in '79. He had a couple of up and coming bands called Blackfoot and The Scorpions open for him. By the time Uncle Ted came on, I'd been pushed back to about row 10 on the floor facing the left side PA.
And for all the youngsters out there, THIS is what rock and roll is all about.
Man I wish I could own that guitar that he plays here. Its a gibson ? that tone is the sound from his solo album and free for all and catch scratch fever. During those years he played that guitar only. And that tone cannot be matched or duplicated to this day
even though he changed guitars and still plays awesome. Their is something about that tone from this guitar "I WANT IT".
@MrSmokeydog Yeah they are called the Byrdland venetian, and when you find one let me know! Ted supposedly owns the majority of them but that may just be hype.
@Winterstick549 Yeah there is the florentine cut and the venetian cut. Yeah your right, George does like the Byrdlands, he owns some, but the main guitar that he has used is a white late 60's Gibson es-125 with a carved out cut on the bottom horn. Most es-125's have no cut and were to resemble old archtop acoustic guitars so his is quite rare.
google up ed roman says something like this. uncle ted wanted something really good,he had a special one made for him looks like a byrdland .but made by a gifted craftsman better then the gibson.
please dont forget the sound is 80 to 90 percent uncle ted.
the rest a good guitar.do a bit of playing myself.
we could spend our life trying to sound like uncle ted.
practice very hard and come close but that's just it.
It's the animal instinct heart and soul anti obama gun shootin' chain saw in the leg carryin' non drinkin out spoken pain in the ass energy blah blah blah blah. SHUT UP TED and join the army....oh wait....you shit your pant's to avoid the army. Roger Waters said it best...."the bravery of being out of range" A "real" american icon. It used to be a great live show now it's like watching Glen Beck with a guitar....vomit.
YEAH,,,,,but I was looking for a version not so old,,,,,on stage he starts out with speed talking, and then they launch this classic, with some brutal guitar solos,,,,he introduces a young new drummer along the way, anybody know that video,,,,,or is it lost,,,,,damn it, it was the greatest version
I was at the concert in KC when he got hit with a ball bearing. He said "FU Kansas City!" then he left. Then I was at his next concert in KC at Arrowhead Stadium. He said last time I was here i got hit in the mouth with a ball bearing now I'm gonna tear this place up! Evereybody throw shit!!" So everybody threw shit all over the stadium.. it was cool.
I think it was the same concert at Arrowhead.. He said last time he was there they complained he cracked the stadium bcuz it was so loud... so he cranked it up even more.
I saw Ted Nugent in 1980. I was 14 years old. He came out on stage, the lights were not even out yet and he started screaming so freakin' loud it was mind shattering. He then went on to blow everyone's mind. It was at the Prairie Capitol Convention Center, Springfield Illinois.
No doubt - a real rocker - I was 16 when I saw him in Monroe, La on Halloween night 1980 - a general admission concert - remember those ? Anyway I was on the rail at center stage and got crushed against the rail but it was still awesome ! I still can't believe Monroe actually booked Ted Nugent - its really more like Ronnie Milsaps, Kenny Rogers and Elvis Presley around here. Greats no doubt but just my speed when I was 16
This brings back so many memories. I saw this tour(scream dream) in Charlotte NC. Def Leppard and the scorpions opened up for him.. One of the best concerts I ever attended. My ears rang for 3 days after this show
@owenseightball then u should go to a kiss concert and see how long your ears ring cause a kiss concert is way louder than that. no offence to ted cause he rocks but so does kiss. i would like to c a ted nugent concert though.
