Exactly! Parthians were people who spoke a Indo-European language. However, it was probably a military and political allience consisted of various tribes and nations. Such contributions have been a part of Central Asian history and culture. Since there is no other scintific evidence historians tend to classify/categorize such civilisations according to the native tongue of their war lord.
Parthians were a nation that spoke Indo-European tongue, so they're related to Persians but are not exactly them. In Central Asia people of different tongue and ethnic origin lived together and shared a common culture. It was not too much different for Ural-Altaic people such as Korean or Turks or Magyars or Mongols.. This technique has been named after Parthians. Nobody knows whether it existed before or not. Turks have undoubltly been one of the nations who performed this technique perfectly.
traditional ? my history book tells me this is the ''Parthian Shot'' thus refering to the phartians , also known ass PERSIANS .. and as far as i know turkey is turkey and persia is persia ..
Yes - that is generally true and correct - what you did say. Although - this specific technique by the Turkic Horse Archers is recorded first in the 7th - 9th Cent. AD by the first Turkic Horse Archers. But it was before at least often used by the Parthans and the Sassanids it may be that this techniue was in fact invented by the Scythians - the first well known Horse Archers of Europe&Mddle East.
Arguable. I'm sure you could find plenty of Nogais or Uygurs or Kipchaks or Jurchens or (insert tribe/nation here) who were equal or superior to a similar random sampling of Mongols.
@walatalalaw turks are the most professional archers and horse riders in the world.Noone could ever compete with turks when it comes to military skills. As we know turks established 21 empires in history.Turks spent more time riding horses then sleeping and took their bows always with them.Later they even created the worlds most small and powerfull bow.Mongolians never were seperated from turks.Even cengis khans empire was full of turks because mongol were too less.
a Bosnian Sipahi would sit on his horse and wait for the european knight to come attacking and every time the knights attacked the Sipahis would shoot like this backwards and at the same time ride forwards, creating a illusion to the knights they have a chance to storm the Sipahis but this way the Sipahis would tire them out and fire volleys of fire into them
...but in the US bows with sight windows are also accepted as "traditional" tackle. Use inexpensive aluminum or carbon arrows at the beginning and switch to wooden arrows when you are more experienced.
wood arrows are cheaper if you make them yourself I use the most expensive shafts and the most reliable and it will set me back about 100 dollars for 24 which is cheaper then the metal ones that are 20 dollars each. also you say that only if you use a thumb release you can shoot it in any positon but i use a traditional longbow without one and i can shoot in any position withing reason ive even hung by my legs from a tree to shoot a rabbit and i got it :P
Gokmen who demonstrates the Parthian shot can shoot on horseback. There are a few more people who can do that in Turkey. Besides, the mounted archery is still on baby steps in the country. But we're trying to revive this martial art of our ancestors too. For a newcomer to traditional archery a bow made from synthetic matarials, 30-35 pound of draw weight, with no sight windows would be great
