My God Henry was such a selfish prick! I honestly don't get what England praises him so much for???? He created a great Navy...and what else???? He was a puss hound? I just don't get it...what a manbaby
I find it truly unbelievable that Henry VIII viewed himself as a very pious man given how he treated women slaughtered his own people. If there is a place called hell he occupies his own private realm.
All of his wives and queens, and their children had stories, I think this is why the Tudors are so interesting, because they were so different than other countries at the time.
She hurried up and divorced King Henry's crazy ass. I bet all of that so called remorse was game. AOC was likely beside herself with happiness. She got away with money,a title, and she didn't have to shag that stinky and HUGE king.
imo Anne was the luckiest out of all of Henry's wives because she was granted money and estates as well as court privledges and she didn't even have to sleep with him!
I think the life expectancy thing can be a bit exaggerated. The lower classes definitely did not expect to live much past 50, however reaching 60 was not unusual in the aristocracy. Indeed the Earl of Surrey led an army at the age of about 80 in the Tudor period.
my favourites in order are:Anne of Cleves, Katherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour, Katherine Howard, Katherine Parr. I feel sorry for Katherine Parr, because she was only 15, and she had to be a wife to a man in hjis fourties.Poor girl!
i like anne of cleves, anne boleyn, catherine of aragon, katherine parr, katherine howard, then jane seymour. im sorry, i just cant really relate to her. she cheated with henry while he was still with anne and she didnt care that he BEHEADED her just to get her out of the way.
anne boleyn cheated with henry while he was still with catherine of aragon too.she didnt care that he kill and threw innocent people in jail just to get people who were aganist her out of her way.
@littlemisssunnydale Agreed, yet u gotta remember it is "Historical Fiction" plus people shouldn't believe all cinema tellings of history. Had Hirst stuck with all the facts, the show probably would've gone on farther and the plot thickening. I love the show and know the true story too.
but he didnt KILL catherine of arogon like he killed anne boleyn. and anne had much more affect on the country than jane ever did. she was too afraid of losing her head than to speak for what she believed in.
Yes, because how DARE she save herself from having her head hacked off right? *eyeroll* Jane was clever enough to hold her tongue. Perhaps she's not as memorable but she didn't have as gruesome of an end...
I call dying of that type of infection pretty gruesome. I certainly wouldn't want to be in labour for three days and then be sick unto death for two weeks!
Interesting that David Starkey did not include the part that Anne eventually did get some money to continue her lifestyle. I think she got some money from Mary Tudor. Anne did not end up too badly at all. She was a nice lady and everyone liked her.
The more stuff I read on Anne, the more I like her. She is frequently overshadowed by the other wives (and I can understand this to some degree). But she was an intelligent individual who emerged from a difficult situation with much self respect. She is my third favourite wife!
cool anne boleyns my fav, then its katherine howard, then katherine parr, then anne of cleves, then katherine of aragon then jane seymour as my least fav
Henry was an ass for cutting her off her own family. Poor Anne! At least she had her head...ha-ha! The shame she must have felt at being called his sister.

In private, she probably partied like it was 1599!

Hm.....I wonder, why didn't they use that episode with dressing Catherine Howard in "the Tudors".....Would have been a very dramatic scene!

Anne of Cleves is one of my favorite Queens. I really like learning interesting things about her and what happened after she and Henry divorced.

That's like winning the lottery in my book
Catherine Howard got the worst deal

Totally agree; although she died relatively young, once she and Henry divorced, she had quite a good life. She was wealthy and independent, and safe.

She was 41 when she died, which was relativley old for those days

he clearly wasn't the nicest chapin the world but it's hard to see what else he could do.

He could have just named one of his daughters as heir, since in the end it would be Elizabeth and she turned out to be pretty good at it.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anne of Cleves and how she handled her divorce from Henry.

Have you by any chance been watching "The Tudors"?
I must hunt down Michael Hirst and give him a piece of my mind. Grrrr!

Agreed. I'll lend you as many pieces of my own mind that I can spare.

My favorite of Henry's wives are a tie between Queen Jane and Queen Anne of Cleves. Unlike the others, I can relate the most with those two.
