  • Thank you for posting this, seeitasitis.

  • You still make people cry Townes, black or white, believer or nonbeliever.

  • anyone got any idea when this was shot?

  • @aleatoric12 Winter 1975

  • @aleatoric12 1975. It is from the film Heartworn Highways. Excellent film by the way.

  • That's not Suzanna Clark. This was filmed in Austin and at this time Guy and Susanna were living back in Nashville.

  • @HColette Who is she then? She's quite the historical honey.

  • @neonatalpenguin She's Phyllis Ivy.

  • Susanna Clark looks absolutely beautiful in this video and her voice at 5:10 ...Wow!

  • Turn this up loud enough and you'll think a dog is barking outside your house

  • I've never seen the documentary, but it is so good to see "Uncle" Seymour come to life again. He could talk - but always had a lot of wisdom. And Townes was a unique and gifted songwriter. Thanks for posting this longer sequence.

  • lovely beautiful.this is real stuff! ++++++

  • Uncle Seymour knew what was ahead for Townes.

  • El verso de "La Pena o la Nada" de Nacho Vegas se refiere a la parte donde Uncle Seymour llora:

"Como el negro escuchando a Van Zandt cantar... Waitin' Around to Die..."

  • I wish i didn't want no more whiskey. such self control often seems beyond me...

  • this is the first video on youtube that I have came back to day in and day out. its a shame that the ones who can dig in that deep and share a piece of themselves leave us so early.

  • Townes was a great poet ... Wish you were here

  • everytime i watch this video it always brings a tear to my eye. not the song. but when the old man cries i feel so sorry for him.

  • Great footage hey Billy.. Blacky

  • great performance of my favorite TVZ song....simply great

  • me and seymour got the same birthday! cool

  • THE GREAT TOWNES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • so so nice=)

  • 1 guy drank to much whiskey

  • great

  • The only man I feel may be on par with Van Zandt is John Fahey. I just think it is a crying shame that Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix get the spotlight when quality sound like this exists.

  • @Herooftimex Hey man dont cut Jimi down, hes a great poet, and guitarist too.

  • @Herooftimex Opinions exist, you know...

  • only townes can pull a tear from the hardest persons eye

  • "drink the best of bourbon whiskey" - best advice ever!

  • who's the Lady? was she one of Townes wifes? Girlfriends...Beautiful woman...they say Townes wrote a song about a girlfriend that died-"Snow Don't fall". came to wondering if this was the lady he wrote about? As I listen to Unk Seymore Washington I come to the conclusion this man should have had a chance to lead our country. REAL, HONEST, SINCERE. God bless ya Mr Washington

  • @steele917 Its Susanna Clark, Guy Clark's missus. Lucky fucker.

  • @livedinbars Actually it's Phylis Ivey,

  • 5:26 I'd be sad too if, after giving advice on how to live a good and long life, I got "Waiting Around to Die" in return.

  • too bad townes didn't take heed to uncle seymours' advice

  • When you're a young white man who can make an old black man in his 70's cry because the song you wrote is that deep, you have written a classic. Long live old country. It needs to come back.

  • I never listened to Townes music in my 55 years but I always loved Steves music and stories. This clip is a work of art it says something about life, Steve did an awsome job with Townes stuff

  • I seen Steve Earle playing in Kent, Ohio this past month and he was "playing" as if Townes was beside him if you know what I mean...

  • Do indeed. Seeing Steve in Derry in November. Closest Thing I'll Get to Townes.

  • This clip is awesome! This song is awesome!

  • last coment to nrm333

  • Texas!

  • Something about listening to Townes always brings a tear to my eye.

  • @sjrlmn i know , i'm from wales uk , small town , i saw him play in a small venue when i was a young rocker and he changed my life, as soon as lifes troubles caught up with me as they do, i turned to townes for my broken salvation! just beautiful x

  • I love Uncle Seymour's calmness. You can tell he's a great soul. Not sure I care for the song.

  • Maybe you're right. But who are you? I insulted no one. I am allowed to comment. Townes mumbles his song so badly I can't hear what he's saying. Maybe Uncle Seymour heard it better. Maybe he had some grit in his eyes. You think you know the truth and you don't. You have no right to insult me.

  • Sure, have a right to your opinion, but I'm concerned for your hearing mate, what do you mean mumbling? sounds all clear to me. Either your ears are crook or your computer speakers are. cheers

  • @danlyons45 Townes is my musical hero and my favorite musician ever, but to be fair he did mumble at times. Especially when he had been doing a lot of drinking or drugs or whatever. But a lot of it was due to all of his teeth being fake teeth except for the front 2. He wasn't mumbling here though. Just a beautiful voice that you can feel hit deep in your heart and soul.

  • you smell like wee! you smell like wee!

look i can insult people on the interwebs too! i know so much!

you smell like wee! you smell like wee!

  • its cool if someone dont care for a song.. who cares .. no need to call him a retard..

your ruining youtube by making people feel they cant comment honestly.. chill out

  • You are a complete asshole. I understand the mans statement.

Clear the wax out of your ears.

It is a sad song. Not something you listen to first thing in the morning.

By the way I met townes in 92, He is my favorite singer/ song writer. I also know guy and susana clark very well.

My point being what the fuck are you talking about you misinformed halfbreed.

    shane mario

  • People who are watching this tend to be huge Townes Van Zandt fans, so some of us erupt when you insult his music. However, you have every right not to like the song and to not be insulted for disliking it.

If you ever get to a point of desperation or sadness in your life, I think you might find this sound useful, especially if you pay careful attention to the lyrics.

  • Dripping Springs Beaudah and Blanco. Makes me almost home-sick.

  • Amazing, I got to get that dvd! Thanx for sharing :)
