@Exone112 Reading can be interpreted differently. There's a difference between reading and speaking. Just because she didn't say the word doesn't mean she didn't necessarily read them. She just read them in her own way.
What are "shapes" of words apart from the words themselves? Abstract symbols that represent the thing itself, like "head". My kids could read as toddlers, too, now my five year old is tearing through all the Magic Treehouse books like they are candy. We should be introducing the "shape of words" much earlier in our kids' education, right when their brains are picking up spoken language. A recent book called Native Reading talks about this...
reading is recognizing every written sign (letter), not recognizing group of signs without being able to distinguish separate letters. So what you guys have been doing, is teaching these kids tricks, not teaching them to read.
@Exone112 your pointing out the obvious fool. The fact that she is able to recognize the words, and remember the action used for that word is incredible for that age. You probably couldn't even walk.
@spiazo Can't believe that a 2 year old comment still gets replies. Well, I define reading like this; being able to _understand_ a piece of text. The baby, 2 years ago, wouldn't be able to understand wtf a "Spork" was by seeing the word on a piece of paper. Sure, if someone held a spork in front of her, while showing the word-card to her, she would learn. But that's just association. She'd go and get the spork if one associated the wordcard "Knife" with it as well.
I think that she can really read but she might be autistic... see the low eye contact she doesn't watch her dad while she's doing what she read. and she seems to be very intelligent!
i read when i was 8m

Exactly, when baby's are young they can take all that info in without any problems.
And it will improve the learning skills in general.

you're right!!
they may try to put a new word in front of the kid...
a kid who knows to read, can read any word even if it is a completely new word
