you say the short strikes dont have any power :P well if you train enough and practice they can be very effective and hurt like hell XD I thank god for my helmet.
use and application of the left, alive hand is very subtle and can be appreciated more in a live session where you can come in contact with a live opponent, rather han looking at a clip. Until you experience it's usefulness live , it just looks random and unnecessary.
The left hand, aka " The alive hand" is used for checking, blocking , striking, distraction, diarming, and also use to add more momentum to the stick, or to redirect the path, trajectory of the stick.Ive found also that it helps you "get into the rhthm" and the other person's timing
He moves his left hand because in Filipino martial arts we also use 2 sticks or knife and stick. we use the same movements empty hand as with 1 or 2 weapons.empty left hand used for distraction blocking and hitting
do you normally not have a punyo when you hold your stick?

why is he clapping his left hand at his leg?
isn't it more useful to use the hand for covering theface or the body ?
I know it's just a demonstraton, but if you demonstrate it wrong, some people will get it wrong..
