  • look at the king look at the king look at the king the king the king.

are any of you fans of this 'music' familiar with the story 'the king's new clothes'?

  • For once, a piece of music does not need more cowbell :)

  • So they let him out of penitentiary this time did they?

  • @Santi2c That's a ridiculous response. My point is that what he plays is lacking any point other than joining in. You can make any point you like about the fact that he played what he played, and I can play whatever I like, but I stand by my own point that what he played contributed nothing and to project some meaning onto it is just pretentiousness.

  • @FeedMeMister i go with you on this... taylor's playing is known for being so erratic that any kind of form or structure is difficult to grasp, so yes, the best the drummer can do is pick up on taylor and fill....

  • @Santi2c Thanks for a suitably pretentious response. If he had done what I suggested, it would have been both what he played, and something I could stand to listen to.

  • Now THAT'S a cowbell

  • ok, I understand this is supposed to be spontanious, textural etc etc... But this is woefully pretentious.

I could listen to the piano perfectly happily, but the drummer is contributing nothing more than sound effects. In fact, it would be genuinely exciting and interesting if he was using more diverse textures providing an atmospheric accompaniment.

All I see here is hero worship and an accepted inward view that criticism is expected because mere plebs like myself 'don't get it'.

  • Tony sits so high up he may as well be standing!

  • I like this because it's a fine demonstration of how far making a dreadful row can take you if you stick at it long enough. What a waste of ability!

  • @palmerstonian Don't critisize what you don't understand! You obviously don't understand "spontaneous composition". Anything beyond,BOOM, BAP,BOOM BOOM BAP, you can't understand. If you let ypurself be an open minded drummer, maybe some day you'll understand. This is of the MOST challenging music out there. The drummer is expected to contribute equally in the composition. Tony Oxley is a master! Han Bennink is another. Open your mind!

  • @jebjas Hey, I can listen to Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Albert Ayler and the like all day quite happily, but, really, this is absolute tosh. Sorry, mate. Anyway, nothing wrong with a bit of BOOM and BAP - in context!

  • @jebjas MOST challenging in the sense of not freaking slipping into a COMA from all the drugs!!!

  • @jebjas Agreed. I thought his performance was very good.

  • happy birthday mr taylor. thanks for all the music - rhsc nyc

  • I'm not wondering if this is good.

  • it is.....this goes against convention....this offers an alternative.....this is alternative music

  • thanks !

  • thanks so much for posting this. glad to see them still sounding both so vital and amazing. cheers!

  • i suppose only Cecil could take to the stage dressed like a prison inmate and still carry it off. Lovely playing from both
