Hi, these items significantly operates well, I stumbled upon a far more polished variation from it at roulettecash#org for nothing, and i also made some significant dollars.
This is such a standard hand for heads up. Perry Green was drawing so dead, only had 6 outs. Ungar can never fold here, he has two over cards to pockets in Perry's range and the nut flush draw. At worst Ungar had 30% with a flush draw against a set, which he still had odds to call for. Why is this considered a sick hand in poker? Its super standard.
Stu Ungar repeating as champion in 1981, an amazing achievement in poker. A tough field and strong final table, but Stu beat them all. Runner-up Perry Green is a very good player in his own right, with 3 WSOP bracelets and other impressive tournament results on his record, but he was up against one of the best in the history poker. Against just about any other player, Green would have probably been the favorite to win, but against Stuey, nobody else was ever the favorite to win.
Stu was only the best ever for a couple periods of time in between drug uses. He has no affect on any of the greatness that has happened since. You simply cant compare him to Phil Ivey or Tow Dwan or any of the other icons you guys worship today. The fact is that we dont know how he matches up against the current talent.
I would be more apt to say that his mind was better suited for being the best at Gin Rummy than a game like poker.
The best don't really win today. Is aggresive play and hope luck is on your side. People back then plays much more conseravative and stu style was aggressive. People are afraid to lose back then. People now days will call you down with almost anything. He will not stand a chance against these youngster nowdays...

It was a big different poker back then and today! People especially youngsters now days or FEARLESS AND MUCH more KNOWLGEABLE. compare to the olden days. If he was alive today he will not stand a CHANCE IN THE WSOP. There was a time in this wsop he raised 8 times in a row and everybody will fold because they are too scared to play. Stu is overrated because he died a long time ago. He played in a time where everyone just played for a pair of aces, nobody knew the odds for draws so any gutshot was good enough to go allin with, even as a 20% underdog.
Maybe Stu was so great because he was the only player who used the continuation bet. Back then everyone checked the flop, you only bet it when you had something, and advanced play would be to check it when you had nothing. To c-bet was unheard of back then

Ivey's best game is not NLHE. Phil Ivey is a fantastic player, but I don't believe he is the best NLHE player in the world. I wish Ungar was still alive so we could watch the two of them play cards together, what a treat it would be!

guys like durrrr and ivey play the style that is recommended in super system, which was published in 1978...ungar wasn't just pushing in and hoping for the best girlie347, believe it or not, poker was played at a high level 30 years ago. if anything, i see the donks today pushing in on draws and hoping more than they would have 30 years ago
As for Stu being at the level of a NL20 t NL50 player, here's an anecdote. Stu once won a 50,000 pot in a cash game when I guy missed a draw and shoved all-in on the river. Stu declared, "you have 54," and called with just J-10 in the hole. He was right. Exactly right. He had a phenomenal ability to read other people's hands and also an ability to count cards.
You are wrong about that hand, the hand you are referring to was later reproduced i by Phil Hellmuth in an article for Cardplayer Magazine. In 1992 Stu faced 1990's WSOP champion Mansour Matloubi in a couple of 50k heads up matches. In one of these Masour had missed he's draws on a 337 flop. The board showed 337QK and Mansour shoved he's last 30k of chips on the river and Stu said i am sure u have 54 and he called with 10 high, 10 9 off. Phil H. later said "Stu could not even beat a J high bluff

Why is Green playing like hes beat. All he needed was one double up and he was even. Then he min raises, calls a substantial raise and puts it all in with a draw. Terrible play from Green.

This is how they played back then. Any pair or any draw was good enough for them. Nobody even understood pot odds, they just went in whenever they had a gut feeling and wished for the best.
Stu Ungar was a better player than most back then. Nowadays Stu would be the level of an aggressive NL20 or NL50 regular, not much more than that.
Don't even start about durrrr or Ivey, those guys are 20 times better than Stu ever was.
This situation is not surprising given the metagame. Perry had two overcards and an open-ended draw. He is actually getting the better end of a coinflip against an unpaired A high or even a hand like A-8. This is a great spot to get a shortstack in against a bully. Unfortunately, Stu also had overcards with a stronger draw which took away outs, and was following the exact same line of thinking. He is about 38% to win on the flop and getting the odds to call. I'd bet that both players knew that.

Stu was only the best ever for a couple periods of time in between drug uses. He has no affect on any of the greatness that has happened since. You simply cant compare him to Phil Ivey or Tow Dwan or any of the other icons you guys worship today. The fact is that we dont know how he matches up against the current talent.
I would be more apt to say that his mind was better suited for being the best at Gin Rummy than a game like poker.

The best don't really win today. Is aggresive play and hope luck is on your side. People back then plays much more conseravative and stu style was aggressive. People are afraid to lose back then. It was a big different poker back then and today! People especially youngsters now days or FEARLESS AND MUCH more KNOWLGEABLE. compare to the olden days. If he was alive today he will not stand a CHANCE IN THE WSOP. There was a time in this wsop he raised 8 times in a row and everybody will fold because they are too scared to play. Try and do that NOW AND SEE WHAT HAPPEN. I gurantee he will lose his whole stack. People back then never really understand the game like how people does these days.

The fact is that he killed himself in his 40's and CANT win 10 titles of anything. Its impossible! Meanwhile other players can win many more titles, more money and receive more accolades than him yet you are going to point to the dead guy as the best player ever. That makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Once you kill yourself early in life, you relinquish any ability to become an all time great. Stu hasnt won anything in many years last I checked. He was only the best at one time, not all time.

Stu was just an average aggro donkey who would feel weakness and raise big with air trying to get others to fold.
Maybe he was the best when others were total shit, but nowadays he wouldn't even be able to make the money in a $1 tournament.
Don't forget his cash game skills were shit. He didn't have the patience to fold, so after an hour he'd get impatient and reraise bluff all in every hand, until someone called and busted Stu.

Stu is overrated because he died a long time ago. He played in a time where everyone just played for a pair of aces, nobody knew the odds for draws so any gutshot was good enough to go allin with, even as a 20% underdog.
Maybe Stu was so great because he was the only player who used the continuation bet. Back then everyone checked the flop, you only bet it when you had something, and advanced play would be to check it when you had nothing. To c-bet was unheard of back then

Of course Stu Ungar of 1981 couldn't hold a candle to the durrrr's of the world, if they could magically play right this minute. durrrr has the advantage of poker software, online poker (millions of hands to play, etc.) People of Ungar's era only could play on the felt, study in their head (w/pad & pencil perhaps). There was no pokerstove, hundreds of books, online forums... You just had your brain... and your balls!

@dannyoo2 That was my point. My point was that Ungar was THAT great, in response to the guy saying he was overrated. If he were a young guy now, he'd be right there with the best. But to think that the Ungar of '80, '81, and '97... if he could magically teleport to 2010 for a HU match, would mop up Dwan, Ivey, etc, with all the experience (online, etc.) they have that he doesn't, you are seriously underestimating them and today's game.

It was during a heads up freeze-out that Stuey challenged the 1990 ME champ Mansour Matloubi to(because Stuey fucked up and OD'd the night before the final table so he couldn't finish the tournament) there's a nice article about it on the poker verdict website :-)

Ivey's best game is not NLHE. Phil Ivey is a fantastic player, but I don't believe he is the best NLHE player in the world. I wish Ungar was still alive so we could watch the two of them play cards together, what a treat it would be!

There was a couple hundred to a thousand during stus day for tournys, for phil, he has to battle 10's of thousands today. thats like saying Jordan would destroy James. it would be a great matchup but, you never know is all im saying.

guys like durrrr and ivey play the style that is recommended in super system, which was published in 1978...ungar wasn't just pushing in and hoping for the best girlie347, believe it or not, poker was played at a high level 30 years ago. if anything, i see the donks today pushing in on draws and hoping more than they would have 30 years ago

i've read about ungar. His life was shoking. His iq was avobe 180 (top genius) and had huge trouble with drugs.
He happened to be mega agressive since he wouldn't care about money and so he had multiple swings from millionaire to broke

As for Stu being at the level of a NL20 t NL50 player, here's an anecdote. Stu once won a 50,000 pot in a cash game when I guy missed a draw and shoved all-in on the river. Stu declared, "you have 54," and called with just J-10 in the hole. He was right. Exactly right. He had a phenomenal ability to read other people's hands and also an ability to count cards.

You are wrong about that hand, the hand you are referring to was later reproduced i by Phil Hellmuth in an article for Cardplayer Magazine. In 1992 Stu faced 1990's WSOP champion Mansour Matloubi in a couple of 50k heads up matches. In one of these Masour had missed he's draws on a 337 flop. The board showed 337QK and Mansour shoved he's last 30k of chips on the river and Stu said i am sure u have 54 and he called with 10 high, 10 9 off. Phil H. later said "Stu could not even beat a J high bluff

Why is Green playing like hes beat. All he needed was one double up and he was even. Then he min raises, calls a substantial raise and puts it all in with a draw. Terrible play from Green.

This is how they played back then. Any pair or any draw was good enough for them. Nobody even understood pot odds, they just went in whenever they had a gut feeling and wished for the best.
Stu Ungar was a better player than most back then. Nowadays Stu would be the level of an aggressive NL20 or NL50 regular, not much more than that.
Don't even start about durrrr or Ivey, those guys are 20 times better than Stu ever was.

This situation is not surprising given the metagame. Perry had two overcards and an open-ended draw. He is actually getting the better end of a coinflip against an unpaired A high or even a hand like A-8. This is a great spot to get a shortstack in against a bully. Unfortunately, Stu also had overcards with a stronger draw which took away outs, and was following the exact same line of thinking. He is about 38% to win on the flop and getting the odds to call. I'd bet that both players knew that.

poker is a different game now stu ungar was the best in his time. No body will ever no if he would still win nowadays because there r so many great players. I m sure he would though but its impossible 2 compare him with the modern stars RIP
