@173fake Vastabator (aka Rasterbator) is a great free utility to generate vector halftones independently of Illustrator. We used to use it ourselves before developing Phantasm CS, but it doesn't offer the same range of results or flexibility, especially when you are already designing in Illustrator.

Shame it's not a plugin for CorelDraw because as most people know who are in the sign making, embroidery and alot of screen-printers business CorelDraw is a far quicker and easier pro tool to use than ai. Just might have got you bigger market than just the arty crafty designer mob, good luck ;)
