Just out of curiosity: What is it that Sid does that makes him deserve rank 1? I agree with the Hart Trophy nomination committee, which did not even place him among the top three. Please enlighten me - what is it that you see that I don't.
I have been to many penguins games, and I rarely take my eyes off of Sid when he is on the ice.Sure, this year sid didn't have as many points as geno and Ovechkin. He was 11 behind Geno and I think 5 behind ovie. It isn't the points that make him so special, it's the little things that he does. He is actually very responsble defensively, and he ALWAYS does all of the little things. He gets lots of points, but it's the little things that shoot him far ahead of the rest, in my book.

I just feel that what has happened is more of a shift in attitude - Detroit will always be a strong hockey city, but the resurgence of the Tigers and Pistons have forced the Wings to fight to be the top dog. In PGH, hockey has resurged since the days of Lemieux b/c of Sid, and Pens fans and Steeler Nation aren't competing against each other.
I think the people from Detroit just want to start stuff b/c they are mad that they know they aren't the true "Hockeytown" anymore. Let's face the facts folks: they didn't sell out the whole season like the Pens, Flyers, Wild, or even Anaheim; their season ticket waiting list has shrunk by thousands (there isnt even a list now), all while the Pens, Flyers and Wild have waiting lists for several years, and TV ratings for the Wings are nowhere near those for the Pens, WIld, Flyers, Sabres, etc.
That's largely a function of the Detroit economy, sad though it is to say so. During the ninties, before the Wings had won any of their four most recent Cups, it was nearly impossible to get a pair of tickets to a home game. Also, Detroit has some of the strongest amateur hockey programs in the U.S.

I have been to many penguins games, and I rarely take my eyes off of Sid when he is on the ice.Sure, this year sid didn't have as many points as geno and Ovechkin. He was 11 behind Geno and I think 5 behind ovie. It isn't the points that make him so special, it's the little things that he does. He is actually very responsble defensively, and he ALWAYS does all of the little things. He gets lots of points, but it's the little things that shoot him far ahead of the rest, in my book.

Is all of this arguing really neccessary? The flyers are a great organization, as are you red wings. The pens won it this year, and that's that. Personally, I think that Crosby is the best player in the world right now, HOWEVER, if others wanna think that it's ovechkin, that's up to them. We are each entitled to our opinions. Ovie is a sensational player. There's no doubt about that. I personally think Crosby is better, but that is simply my humble opinion.

Yah the caps will probably win the series, but even if they dont it, doesnt matter cause best of 7 series is played as a TEAM not as a indiviaual player. If your judging player by player, judge by their stats example +/- points, goals, rings, etc Best of 7 series is judge by the better team well I cant really say that either cause the better team doesnt always win. The Flyers outplayed pittsburgh the last 5 games and still lost. Sometimes just run into a hott goalie and bad luck..

AndyVintheD, I agree with you 100 percent. I have an aunt that worked for GM that was forced to retire, so I know the troubles in Detroit. I just feel that what has happened is more of a shift in attitude - Detroit will always be a strong hockey city, but the resurgence of the Tigers and Pistons have forced the Wings to fight to be the top dog. In PGH, hockey has resurged since the days of Lemieux b/c of Sid, and Pens fans and Steeler Nation aren't competing against each other.

I think the people from Detroit just want to start stuff b/c they are mad that they know they aren't the true "Hockeytown" anymore. Let's face the facts folks: they didn't sell out the whole season like the Pens, Flyers, Wild, or even Anaheim; their season ticket waiting list has shrunk by thousands (there isnt even a list now), all while the Pens, Flyers and Wild have waiting lists for several years, and TV ratings for the Wings are nowhere near those for the Pens, WIld, Flyers, Sabres, etc.

That's largely a function of the Detroit economy, sad though it is to say so. During the ninties, before the Wings had won any of their four most recent Cups, it was nearly impossible to get a pair of tickets to a home game. Also, Detroit has some of the strongest amateur hockey programs in the U.S.
