  • @MelosAntropon I would like to hear your recording of this. It truly must be magnificent.

@ zippylad77 You are very gracious. I thought your rendition was excellent. I second those that said this was very reminiscent of Fox.

  • @novemberrain212 Thank you very much! It is very flatterering to be even likened to Virgil!

  • wish i could play the organ like that....awesome...

  • do a search an you can find the link to purchase the CD reissue of the encores recording. - won't let me post the link here

  • This is an excellent performance, very much a match to the original one on the Virgil Fox "Encores" recording - of which I have the Vinyl LP with my cover autographed by Virgil Fox himself.

Very similar tempo and phrasing as Virgil would do it himself.

  • The faster tempo makes it a more exuberant rendition. Bravo. The text can be interpreted as a celebratory proclamation as opposed to devotional mutterings.

  • Brilliant! Absolutely!

  • @DbrynbettwsCF32 Thank you. I might do a better version of this at some point!

  • Hi, Zip. I've commented before (on your Preston). Technically, you've got this work in your palm. But it's a dime fast, and "swimmy " in articulation. Ease it back a trice, explore a drier touch, and *enjoy* playing it! (What's the hurry?) A more gradual approach to the increase in registration would be good, too. Try starting it off with flute 8', 4', 2' registration only. Then build! Your 92% of the way there now. I am sure you can do this flawlessly. Play on, brother!

  • @MelosAntropon Thank you! I'll certainly take your comments on board if I ever rerecord this

  • Wonderful instrument, beautiful performance! Keep up the marvelous work!!!

  • I think if my service were to start with this,...I would bow in thought/prayer and mouth the words,...and be in the right mind to worship.

Sadly, I suspect the younger crowd would look puzzled and start playing with their cell phones.

This is truly beautiful, thank you for posting.

  • Very well played. Too bad the organ is an electronic and not the real thing.

  • Hello, is there any way you can send me some pics of the organ with the doors closed. I have that organ in a dark walnut stain at my home 4 manuals and I am now considering getting the glass doors enclosure to protect it.... if you have other pics of the stop controls that would be helful as well.

  • I liked the "phew" sound he made just before turning off the camera. Definitely a lot of action for both the hands and feet throughout the entire piece.

  • What a beautiful instrument, great sound! This organ sounds almost identical to the instrument I play at Memorial Lutheran Church. Well played as well!

  • The sound is just.

  • Nice performance. Perfect tempo.

Virgil is spelled like this <<<

  • Yes, I know about the spelling mistake. Just need to find out if I can correct it. Thanks for the reminder anyway :-)

  • oh look interesting organ....

may i come over get on the organ please :D:D:D:D

  • Nice job.

Afriend of mine studied with Fox,and said he was a bitch of a teacher.

Always said"If you don't have rhythym, I don't want you".

I think you have rhythym, zippy.

  • Very nice. Good tempo, a nice piece well played.

  • Hi Aaron, yes you're welcome to come along and see the organ. Why not come to our mass at 11:00am this Sunday and you can have a play after the mass if you're free? Otherwise just get back to me to arrange a time. You can contact me via the Salford Diocese website. Just look out for the pages on the cathedral choir

  • The Pontifical trumpet was pretty pathetic really, until a few weeks ago when it was revoiced, and now it sounds amazing. Even with the box shut, it packs a real punch thanks to James Harker. I'll have to do another recording soon to demonstrate it.

  • Hi I`m An organist my Self and Play In meny Cathedrals and Concerts. I want to no if i could come over to Salford Cathedral and have a Go on the Makin Organ. I`m Good friends with Richard Goodall From makin Organ`s And he sayed that Salford Is the Finest Organ They have Built Using State Of the art System. Please Email me Priverty god bless

  • What does the Pontificial Trumpet on this organ sound like? ;) And some of the other ranks too?

  • Thanks for all your comments! I wish the video quality was just better because the accoustics in that building are just awesome, and I only had a digital camera to capture the moment. In reply to organcomposer, the organ is a Makin digital organ which was custom designed for the cathedral. So there are no ranks, just lots of speakers ;-)

The small LCD screen just above the middle of the top solo manual gives the game away!

  • yeah the 32's sound convincing as does the solo reeds fine playing too.

  • The tempo is perfect in my opinion. I think this is one of the best recordings of this piece I've heard yet, and the closest to Dr. Fox's original Riverside recording. Excellent job!

  • Excellent job! Probably the best version on here. Organ sounds absolutely amazing. Nice sounding 32' there.

  • Nice arrangement and nice organ. Who is the manufacturer and how many ranks please ? Thanks
