  • everybody has an child in themselves, either they admit it or not, for those who say they aren't , are in denial.

  • mary martin is a genius

  • I don't believe in faggots. Will they fall down dead?

  • I ran away the day before I was born. And I was a little boy then and lived among the Pharaohs. Oops, wrong movie.

  • 0:04 I'm less than convinced. 0:10 "I don't care!" 0:12 Wouldn't the umbilical cord have made that difficult? 0:23 Well I've got some bad news for you, Mary. 0:28 A VERY long time. 0:35 "I keep sitting on them." 0:47 Why? 1:01 "But for some reason Link doesn't have one." 1:09 "What with their Spice Channels and their cellphones and their Facebook pages and the I-don't-know-whats." 1:22 But mostly you get fairy poachers. 1:26 ACK they teleported! 1:35 Also they suffocate in drawers a lot.
  • 2:02 She said "That hussy? Never." 2:07 Wah wah wahhhh. 2:15 What? 3:12 Oh jeez, they're not even out of the first set yet. 3:46 As long as it's not the Neverland RANCH. 3:56 That's not saying much, frankly. 4:10 That's a double-negative, Pete. 4:58 "And shaped funny." 5:05 Makes it real convenient for the set designers as well as the plot. 5:20 Like when she's having a smoke? 5:28 Better than letting L. Ron eat them, I guess. 6:13 Yeah, and then what happened? 6:16 And then what?
  • 6:26 "I have Storybook Weaver!"

6:39 "That'll violate air traffic laws and the national guard will shoot us down!"

    6:47 Hot Pockets.

6:55 Who the hell are they? OH, right.

7:04 "Wendy's on the sauce again."

7:27 "Because they don't have you for nightmare fuel."

7:30 I hope she meant "naughty".

7:34 I can't believe she answers to the DOG. "Dog is god spelled backwards."

  • tjis always freaked me out because peter pan looks like a lesbian sexual predator -_-

  • It's so sad I used to be so into this song but years passed and this is the first time in a long time since I saw this it brings back such good memories and emotions but now I feel different I guess I did grow up since then I feel sad about this I wish I could go back to those times. To go back to the time when I did believe in a place called neverland :)

  • I used to love this

  • "She said you silly ass. She's quite a common girl, you know." O_o!! *Dies*

  • wish they would release this on dvd

  • I love that song, Peter sings "NeverLand" what a beautiful song :)

  • The sky background is so pretty!!!<3

  • ah- something beautiful before Disney got to it.

  • PETER: "Well, how did I know you were in the drawer?"

TINK: "Honey, get the fairy dust out of your ass and listen!!"

  • "...Because I'm a gentleman and your a lady" Ha!!

  • I understand completely why Peter is played by a woman, but it just ruins it since I've always had a huge crush on him. :\

  • Wendy: John! Michael! Wake up! There's a boy here that's going to teach us how to fly!

John: nrgh...Wendy what are you...HOLY CRAP WHO IS THAT?!

  • I saw this show as a kid and although I loved Captain Hook but there was something singularly off-putting about Mary Martin in the role. I never bought that she was a boy, and the pretense was annoying. I suspect that this was an idea that the adults who produced the show thought fey and ingenious.

  • @storybored It never bothered me that she was a girl, I knew she wasn't a boy, I think that might be part of why I liked it so much, I know it's supposed to be a boy's role but I liked seeing a woman in that place. Historically though every live action movie of Peter Pan going back to 1924 had a girl in the role, they can be older and still boyish and they fit the harnesses for flying easier than boys do. I never liked hearing a boy's voice doing Peter.

  • @storybored Actually, Peter is a role traditionally played by women, because mens' voices get so deep, they get facial hair, and they get broader shoulders. A woman is generally chosen because they still have soft, higher voices and the slender frame, making them seem more like a boy.

  • Is Peter a girl in that video clip???hhmmm I thought he was a boy! And I do believe in faries ..

  • This is incredibly lovely. A testament to 19th century literature. It brings a tear to my eye when Peter says that fairies are almost gone because children don't laugh enough. "Children know so much"... And it is very nice to hear the immortal Mary Martin singing these lovely songs. Thank you!!

  • @tamarexxe I have to agree, they know so much but what in fact DO they know? As a child I never said with any conviction that I didn't believe in fairies or that they weren't real, and I still don't. I think there might be a bit more magic to this old world than the 'logical' adults would have us believe, and kids need something to believe in.

  • JUST GET A REAL DOG THEY'RE STILL ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

  • You know, it's funny, as a kid when Peter's telling about the fairies dying I always knew I would never say that, and even when I grew up and even now I have never said it, just in case! :)

  • @TheBookWorm1718 That is just about the sweetest thing I ever heard. You must be a jolly fun person :)

  • @tamarexxe I think for the most part I am, heh heh. Though I often come off as being very serious and quiet, but overall I'm a very happy person.

  • it seems that the video skiped a part

  • ...did she just say "you silly ass?" lmfao

  • @ohdezflores Yes she did. I never caught onto that part as a kid, I thought she was saying 'you sillies'.

  • PLEASE HELP ( not from english speaking country here). I'm confused! did she say "you silly arse?" It can't be that right? I misunderstood?

  • @Melicioel7 You have not misunderstood. She said "You silly ass." Ass can be a term for either a donkey, someone who is being a very mean person, or someone's bottom.

  • The creepiest thing that who played Peter is a women lool and tinkerbell she's just a refilction of the light

  • The faries didn't die.. they all moved to San Francisco,

  • i no it was fetting to the time but it is a little creepy that a grown woman is playing a boy

  • the reason I like this Peter Pan movie best is because it follows the original play plans: an actor in a dog suit, a light around the room as a fairy... the good ol' James Barrie version.

  • why is it that in the Cathy Rigby version at the end Smee comes back to be adopted?

  • OMG!! That's a huge dog!!! xD

  • So I grew up watching this movie (instead of the disney one) and as a kid I had the biggest crush on Peter......now I know she's actually a girl and I'm not sure what to think about that :-S

  • She said you silly ass! Lmao, thats awesome :P A kids movie even... Thats the 60's for ya ;)

  • Was there a part cut out from that scene where they're talking about fairies? There was a jump, and I remember there being more dialogue there.

  • @millenniumf1138 You're right. I can't remember exactly what was there, but there's definitely something...

  • I am the only adult getting emotional watching this? This was one of my favorite childhood movies.

  • i love this movie so much, it was one of my favorites as a kid in the 90's. but im watching it for the first time in at least 10 years and peter looks like a pedo at some points!

  • I Just don't like it that nowhere in the play/musical is there a scene or a place where Peter carries Wendy in his arms like in the Disney version, like they show in the advertisement.

  • @hinatarocks88888 No, that's not true either. Peter was also a boy three or four times on stage.

  • Wendy: What did she say? Peter: She said you silly ass......

  • Why doesn't this version mention the kisses and thimbles?

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100 I don't know but I'm glad it doesn't.

  • is it bad that I kindof want Wendy?????

  • This has got to be one of the best versions... xx

  • The Kiss/Thimble scene isn't in here!! :(

  • mary martin is girl

  • @etb1244

Is she? Ya know, when I saw that picture of her as Maria in the Sound of Music, I thought something was fishy.

  • At 0:14 you can see a built-in fireplace in the Darling children's bedroom near John's bed. At 07:26 Nana (the dog) and the maid come charging in. What the hell? For real, I would've hid too. When I was a kid I always tried to get away by staying up late, and never wanted my parents to find out, lol. Right on John!

  • WENDY: John! Michael! Wake up! Theres a boy here thats going to teach us how to fly!

John and Michael: ...BITCH ITS 3 IN THE MORNING! GET OFF THE METH AND GO TO SLEEP!!!

  • @75flash hehehe that's exactly how I feel when my sister wakes me up on Christmas.

  • My favorite part was when Mary Martin(as Peter Pan) sang the song, "Never Neverland". One of my childhood loves. :<3

  • @ScorpioDreamer1984 thats one of my favorites

  • at 1:30 there's a little cut out.

  • boy, john and michael sure are heavy sleepers. They can sleep through all of the singing and lights, yet wake up when wendy wakes them up. what's up wit that? lol.

  • @betawomanizer LOL I was thinking the same thing

  • @betawomanizer In the book, Peter kicks John out of his bed and the kid STILL sleeps until Wendy wakes him. ^^

  • @JohnSilverfan01 I liked that part in the book. When I told my brother about it he said that sounds more like something a teenager would do instead of a little boy.

  • that perter pan is freaky as a woman/boy

  • tinkerbell should go inside the vase first to say something.. haha, funny..

  • How old was Mary Martin when she did this? Also the Wendy looks so young, I dig her hair.

  • @PeaceNdLovee She was 47. She was born in 1913 and this was made in '60.

  • Wonderful wonderful memories of watching this over and over as a kid (in the early 80s!) I knew (and still know) all the lyrics and choreography! I had NO idea it was from 1960 - just shows how long wonderful performances and music like this can reach out to many generations.

"It's not on any chart, you must find it with your heart - Never Neverland"

  • so the bassoon could be tinks laugh!

  • i didn't realize so many people watched this on vhs as kids lol i thought i was the only one

  • @gunnarnizzler OMG all the time! 4 kids in the family and we watched it ad nauseum. I think my mom wanted to chuck it out the window, haha.

  • @gunnarnizzler I know! I was so surprised when I was a kid and watched the movie Look Who's Talking Now because Julie watched it in the movie too.

  • ''you know fairy's Peter?''

''yes, but they're nearly all dead now. You see Wendy, when the first baby laughed, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and the all went skipping around. and thaat was the begining of fairy's.

so there ought to be one fairy for every girl and boy.

ought to be? isn't that peter?

no, children know such a lot now. soon they won't believe in fairy's anymore. and everytime a child say's, i wont believe in fairy's, a fairy fall's down dead.

    i love that part :P

  • @MegaAzby I love it too, and as a kid I tried to believe that, that a baby's laugh could bring fourth a thousand fairies.

  • I loved Peter Pan Growing Up

  • I always thought that the 'silly ass' bit was sort of a wink-wink thing to the adults...am I right? I mean when Peter says "I'm a gentleman and you're a lady". Is Tink saying "you silly ass" because Peter is obviously being played by a lady? Or am I thinking waaaaay too far into this? lol

  • aahahaha

  • @girlovestacos88 Tink is saying 'you silly ass' because Peter is oblivious to her feelings for him.

  • @calliesaiyan i never noticed that before, lol.

  • @girlovestacos88 Well actually Tink says "you silly ass" all the time in JM Barrie's original story. She was just always somewhat rude LOL But yeah, it's ironic in this setting.

  • we had this movie on VHS and I broke the tape watching it so much. I wish I could find it on DVD but I heard its crazy expensive

  • Lol, same here!

Google it, you can find ones for, like $19.00....

  • Same here, but it was so long ago I can't remeber if it was the Cathy Rigby or this one.

  • Haha, I so used to watch this at my grandma's house as well!

And I don't remember the "ass" comment either. I guess young minds are innocent, haha

  • A Lot of Females played Peter Pan on Broadway.

  • when i was a kid i saw this and never forgot it ...62 yrs young and still going..... i do believe that's where mj got neverland from... he saw it too.........

  • The magic of Broadway. Nothing compares to theatre. Especially these old musicals.

  • I used to watch this video all the time when I was a kid. I'm suprised the VHS didn't wear out after so many plays, but I still have it, and I just watched it last night. :D But on my VHS it does say 'silly ass.'

  • mine did too

  • I don't remember her saying ass when I was a kid. Maybe I had the edited version.

  • i feel i'm so old though i'm just a teen but i want to be a child back =S

  • I used to watch this at my Grandma's house, lol.

  • me too! lol

  • fuck i am old seen this in 96 when i was a child

  • did she say sill ass?!? at 2:24?!?

  • Actually she says "You silly ass" Tink says this a lot to Peter

  • on the vhs i had of this the changed it from ass to girl lol it was censored!?!?

  • haha i guess so

  • really on mine it says ass

  • I've seen this version on video cassette! They have it in our college library! I clap for Tink when she implores children in our world to believe in fairies.

  • some dog =]

  • duh

  • petter pan is a girl!

  • Back in early television, they were transitioning from theatre. Many conventions that modern viewers find annoying are actually artifacts from theatrical performances. Again, this piece was an adaptation from theatre, and in early TV that's what happened. TV as an distinct artform didn't appear until much later...and folks like Lucile Ball were the pioneers. She had vision of what TV could be--not just a stage piece filmed, but a new art form. Peter Pan predates this.

  • where can i get this movie?

  • i do love mary martin, but cathy rigby is better as peter. mary martin just seems too girly as peter, and cathy just has the right boyish personality as peter, mary is a good actress, but she doesnt seem impolite and boyish enough as peter. cathy is just naturally better.

  • mary martin's voice i soooo much better!

  • And i'm in no way putting down peter pan, but i have a question.

if the lost boys were babies when they fell out of their carriages, they would still be babies when they get to neverland. why do they all grow up too look like 4-16? just curious for any theories/thoughts

  • i think that "grow up" means becoming an adult, not literally aging. and they can't have crazy lost boy adventures if their only babies. just putting that out there...

  • Unless they were the Rugrats.

  • ya it means they'll phtsically grow up and get older but they won't go to work or have responsibility or deal with the troubles and problems of being an adult

  • Sorry, But I just like Cathy Rigby's production of PETER PAN! Sorry

  • i'm sentimental for this version, but i do agree. cathy rigby is a sensational peter pan.

  • Thank you for posting this wonderful production. It is truly a treasure. Back in the day -- my day -- Mary Martin was the BOMB!

  • uhh is peter a girl :O??????

  • Peter is traditionally a girl in theater productions because they can hit the notes and are more nimble and better suited to the part.

  • you silly ass.

  • Peter Pan's voice is a dead give away that he is played by a girl, but i know that he IS played by a girl but still.......

  • I think she does an amazing job as portraying a prepubescent boy. She's not trying to play a man.

  • how can the fairies nearly be all dead. babies around the world make their first laugh every day.

  • because then most children dont believe in fairies. but i do. :-D

no matter how old i am, (12, to be precise) i will always believe in neverland and the fairies.

  • I have said time and time again that i believe in fairies, but I have never said that I didn't! :D

  • Peter Pan: "And every time a child says 'I don't believe in fairies'..."

    Tinkerbell: *dies*

    Peter Pan: "OH SHI--"

  • ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!! UR FUNNY!!!

  • you know...I always wondered about that. Eventually it would've been Tinker Bell. Or does Peter have immunity from killing a fairy with that phrase?

  • You have to MEAN it. And Peter doesn't.

  • @swordphish007 good thing he didnt mean it or tink wouldve died a long time ago

  • I believe that it is you can only kill one fairy and that's the one that is yours.

Anyone who has read the actual book knows the life expectancy of fairies and Tinkerbell actually lives for quite a good amount of time.

  • LMAO

  • :D lolz.

  • @DevilMaster BAHAHAHAHA! XD HOW CLEVER!

  • This version of Peter Pan was not "live" as was the earlier versions but was taped in sequences. Mary was appearing another play when they did this version. She would tape the scenes for Peter Pan during the day and perform her play at night. During the taping of one of the flying sequences Mary hit the wall hard and was injured. I doesn't matter to me that Mary played a boy. I would enjoy Ms. Martin if she played King Kong.

  • This was my most favorite ballad from Peter Pan. There was another woman who played this part very well in San Francisco, and sang the song so well. I cried, with hapiness

  • Where's the video go at 1:25?

  • What a great story about fairies...

I LOVE Mary Martin... She is amazing

  • Also... Wendy annoys the hell out of me. She sounds like Dora the freaking Explorer.

  • i so agree!!!!!!!!

  • so is yours.

  • i didnt mean for that to be in caps sorry my badd

  • I still have the VHS of this :)

  • i absolutely love this song<3

  • Same here MissFit0191,...one of the most beautiful tunes ever written, also,...not too easy to sing.

  • omg i know!!! beautiful<33333

  • tink said , you silly ass, WTF??

  • That's a line from the original play and subsequent novel. It was considered once quite vulgar I think.

  • she said you silly ass

  • as molly said peter is always played by a women because all the music and part is make for a women (sopranos) and they need the flexibilty

  • ur not a gentleman... hahahaha

  • i think the older brother should play peter pan, his voice sounds more like him

  • How can the other two kids sleep through all that??

  • I watched this when I was little, and her performance was so convincing I thought she WAS a boy!

  • When I was young, my mom owned this video for the simple reason that her name is also "Mary Martin." It was lost when I was in kindergarten, and I have since been looking to watch it again. It is truly a classic.

  • I am in this musical at my school...I play "Slightly Soiled" its a funny part. And Paul Rubin (the guy who flew Cathy Rigby) is flying us! The show is really gonna be incredible.

  • Peter just said "I don't believe in faeries". Does that mean that a fairy somewhere fell down dead?

  • ya kno i wonder the same thing! and to tell u the truth i have my own fairy no lie i do. ^_^

  • Lol. What's his/her name?

  • Auora,
