"American" is pretty much synonymous with English, as it is the primary language across the country. It's like when people say "Chinese", when it's actually Mandarin/Cantonese/etc.
I know the character of Big Bird is suppose to only 6 years old and innocent but isn't it a little off and wrong to say he wished everyone there "spoke American?"
I would be interested in knowing how that decision was made for him to say that line.
When I started getting into Japanese, my mom told me I would really love this movie. It took me years and I finally watched it. I'm now learning Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Haha, I learned so much from this♥
1.Also, pho⋅net⋅i⋅cal. of or pertaining to speech sounds, their production, or their transcription in written symbols.
2.corresponding to pronunciation: phonetic transcription.
3.agreeing with pronunciation: phonetic spelling.
4.concerning or involving the discrimination of nondistinctive elements of a language. In English, certain phonological features, as length and aspiration, are phonetic but not phonemic.
I loved this movie. I grew up watching this movie and I remember learning so much about China, it's culture, and everything when I was young watching this. I haven't seen this in so long. The only thing I remember is when Big Bird was looking for the Great Wall and ended up standing on it.
I rented this movie a couple of times when I was little, and it was pretty cool. I had vague memories of this song, and this clip brings them right back. Thanks!
My mom sent this to me 4 years ago. I was about 7 at the time. She said it reminded her of me because I learn Chinese (and I still do!)
It makes me so happy everytime I watch this.
