Alfred Music Publishing is currently in production to publish this arrangement (arr. Ralph Martino) for alto sax and piano. There will be the original sax solo, plus an alternate ending that's a little easier. The piano part has been edited to make it more playable. Should be out in November or December this year.
our band is going to france this summer and this guy is coming with to play this exact piece with us except it's a band arrangement, along with fantasia with alto sax
Dale is one of the greatest I've ever met. I remember taking lessons from him in High School at band camp and I learned a lot from this great man. I'm glad to see that he quit smoking, now if I could do it too.
Dale is great. A great teacher, and a great guy. Those of us who have studied him are all better for having spent time with him both in and out of lessons. I wonder if this was recorded at George Mason. Also, Alice is an awesome accompanist.
Dale Underwood is a master. I highly recommend his "Soliloqy" CD. The "Grundman Concertante for Alto Sax & Band" written for him is the highlight of the CD. One doesn't often get the opportunity to hear a great concert saxophonist, but this is one. Thanks for posting!
Mr. Underwood's playing is to be studied and emulated. Check out my high school sophomore son playing "Concertante for Alto Sax and Band" by Clare Grundman written for Mr. Underwood found on my page.
According to Dale, just treat them as the regular pitches.....Maybe that's the key, how would you know it's hard if you are never told that it's supposed to be hard.
PLayed with Dale many times when I was in the Sterling Muni Band in Illinois. Best sax player I've ever seen!

I agree, and alot of his music is like that. But, much of his technique and high tones are extremely refined.

Hell yes! You've still got it old buddy. No one can sing a song like you. Love to see you next time you're in the Northwest.

He sounds a little bit too brilliant (it's the French saxophonist's point of vue, of course), but it's wonderful. I like the ref to Summertime.

bright in general or when he plays freaking high altissimos that a lot of saxophonists can't play clearly?

I don't think it's publish. Dale is the only one who owns the music, some of his students may have it too....
