I'd even still be nervous if I was one a flight which had to land in the middle east and the country we landed on was a dodgy one. (It'd be a death sentance if stopping at Kabul.)
actualkly it'sd not that bad. I spent 2 years in Iraq (civilian lawyer 2006-2008). Sometimes flew military, sometimes the dreaded Iraqi Airways. Actually LANDING wasn't so horrible. It's the horrendous "corcscrew dive" landing approach that I have nightmares about. To avoid RPGs and missles, they fly right over the airport at 20,000 feet and then do sharp corkscrew turns all the way down. I was convinced with all the sharp turns either the plane would stall or else the engines would cut off.
Totally not fair to generalise like that. Yes this was a gigantic screw-up but not because they were British, but because they were idiots (regardless of nationality!) :)

British Airways is very good at burying bad publicity, that's why you didn't hear many stories about it.
BTW this documentary was made by the BBC, the state-owned British broadcaster. Discovery Channel showed it in other countries.
