They're "owned" by their depositors, not some multinational conglomerate. As such, their first responsibility is to their depositors, not outside shareholders. Most are considered "not-for-profit" (not the same as "nonprofit") - their aim isn't to rake in tons of money 4 those outsiders, just enuf to stay afloat & provide needed services to their member-owners.

Look at history and you'll see that this happens at the end of every single fiat currency that has ever existed- and it's happening RIGHT NOW.

Eventually, there will be a Bank Holiday (as during the Depression). The banks/credit unions/whatever will close for a short time. When they re-open any currency you hold will have halved in value (or worse). Gold & Silver have INHERENT value - hence they are the only real consistent form of Money through history
