  • his out of tuneness kinda gives off a chorus used in the 80's.. Hmm

  • Not the best singer........but clearly the greatest guitarist.

  • I was there. 18 years old and ready to start college at U.C. San Diego. What a show. I think there was some group called Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys that played before Jimi but I could be wronged. Unfortunately my idol died shortly after this concert but I can tell my kids as well as my college students that I saw Jimi Hendrix live in concert.

  • Once again, can you really play Hey Joe?

  • Jimi u are the man!!! Music has never been the same since that great era of artists like yourself

  • Kétség kívül ő a király!!!!

  • love how he throws in the "I Feel Fine" lick at about 1:09

  • @SHORTBUSCLAY Talent in music today is overrated. Fuck what all the trendy kids listen to. Still nothing beats this & I don't care what anybody says.

  • blahblah todays music sucks

    blahblah todays kids cant type.

    Who gives a shit, peace.

  • @SHORTBUSCLAY

When will people say something different for gods sakes!

  • my aunt went to this concert said it was insane

  • The quality of the audio on this vid is amazing, it could almost pass for a studio recording. Thanks a lot for posting :-)

  • that is one sick show san diego

  • this is when playing was about soul rather than electronic editiing. fuck the computer, guitar+amp+soul=music

  • damn this some mean ass quality. not that i care about quality.

  • Fuck you plain clothed coppers!!! You'll never take me alive!

  • "She said so" quote 1:15 nicee very nice....

  • @bluescanfly1981 wut ?

  • @warriorsfunny Beatles song "She said so"

  • @bluescanfly1981 No its I feel fine by the Beatles

  • @coffebob Of course, "she said so" is a line from the song -> title is "i feel fine", i was writing from the top of my head. :)

  • @bluescanfly1981 If you havent done so already, watch (Hey Joe) jimi live on lulu. Its around YouTube somewere. You will here the I feel fine riff much clearer. Enjoy!!!

  • oww yeaaaaa

  • I was at this concert....I wonder what great music he could have made if he had lived a few years longer.?.

  • @robsurfin hey dont we all.

  • @SHORTBUSCLAY LOL, i dont disagree with you but alot of people said the same thing about music of the 60's too. I think it's generation thing.

  • @SHORTBUSCLAY shut up hipster

  • What part in San Diego was this done?

I live in San Diego, but sad to say that I didn't exist during his time.

  • he is soo Fucked up singing this song. guitsar is insane, mind blowing actually.

  • "i feel fine" at 1:09

  • @plastack aye :D

  • Very solid hey joe.

Oh right the youth generation is always at fault for everything. That's why this country has been flatlining for a decade and the only answers you old folks come up with is more taxes.

  • Long live Jimi.

  • I find this to be one of the most enjoyable live versions of hey joe it sounds pretty dam perfect.

  • . Just look at the comments that todays youth posts. The majority is filled with poor grammar and misspelled English. With such uneducated ignorant youth it's no wonder they have no clue what real musical talent is nor are able to distinguish it even if they hear it.

Long live Jimis legacy for all of us who recognize just how amazing he really was.

  • You are such a dumbass I hope you realize you sound as fuckin retarded as the generation that use to downgrade you as youths before us...there is a word count and its not like we are in school...really not that big of a deal guy you can take the stick out of your....perfection

  • Jimi was an innovator and a visionary. His guitar playing, like Janis Joplins singing, came from his soul. The C rap that the majority of today's youth call music is a joke. How many rappers play anything? The Guitar, Drums, Keyboards? Hell they cant even sing! It's all about shouting nigger this and nigger that. They are not musicians; they are talentless idiots capitalizing on the ignorant American youth that think it's cool to be some kind of gangster or thug.

  • @SgtSlickSleeve very true

  • Jimi was born on the 27th of November 1942 and died on September the 18th 1970. Actually he never died because legends don't die...

  • de muziek zal nooit dood gaan nee

  • He was killed

  • he played lefty guitar upside down so he played right handed

  • You've got it backwards.

  • no, he restrung them appropriately for a lefty.

  • he was like einstein smart men not overeacting at all just being theirselfes

  • he's a lefty, so he gets a reqular guitar and turns it upside down

  • it took me like a whole minute to figure out why the first picture looked a little strange. haha

  • thats jimi playing fillmore with the band of gypsies january 1 1970 he was already worn out and he looked very exhausted by then

  • He had a huge wall of Marshall amps behind him. (They could have been set to 11! Well maybe not.)

When he played with teeth it wasn't like you or I might make a plucky sound or something it was more like he was wailing and doing those things only Hendrix could do and it continued like you wouldn't believe even with his teeth. Unreal!

I was surprised more people didn't show up. We did have him all to ourselves for a little while there.

  • The guitar is upside down so it might be reversed

  • that is a youung bob marley at first

  • bob marley is a young jimi he was there first

  • thats not jimi in the beginning jimi is left handed not right

  • it is him. the pic might be reversed or he might have played right handed when the picture was taken - why not.

  • yeah.. its reversed man. ALthough good observation...

its reversed cuz you can see the direction of the uhh.. things used to tune it are upside down

  • actually wait.. no they're not... maybe he was just playing it the righty way then.. idk, its peculiar... why dont we ask the person who posted this vid...???

  • It's mirrored. Very simple, you can do it in photobucket even. It's from the Band Of Gypsy's rehersal's at Baggy's Recording Studio. *****(5)*****

  • ok ok its jimi hendrix the pic is reversed they filmed on reels and the negative coulda been exposed the wrong way its jimi hendri at fillmore band of gypsies check it out

  • I like the bit where Jimi sneaks in the 'I feel fine' riff as mini tribute to the Beatles! He got away with that comment about San Diego being 'Cowboy land' as well.

  • they just dont makem like this anymore,,,sad,,realy sad.peace n love jimmy

  • yes tats true :)

  • i hate Rappers Just Talking About Sex and Shit Hendrix Made a Sence With his Songs

  • long live to Jimi Hendrix but... "LIVE" YOUR ASS

  • FANTASTICO !!!!

  • There's no excitement in music anymore its all manufactured shite! I could shoot pete waterman and simon cowell i hate the bastards they've ruined music.

  • Yeah no shit man. People like Simon Cowell are the anti-Christ of music. They wrapted it all up in plastic celophane and shove it down the "unknowings" throats. Music was a business back than but the people who played it played to make a statement, tell a story, get out thier emotions, not a quick fortune. I am ashamed of my generations music and apologize to all of it's weekness in soul.

  • the first picture is band of gypsys 1969/70 so its one of the later ones

  • woa that first picture is a weird picture. It's either an incredibly early and rare picture of him, or not him. It looks like him with a super small afro but it looks like he's palying right-handed. Could the image maybe have been mirrored?

  • The unmistakable sound of "The J.H.E." Noel, Mitch & Jimi, digging in,=pure class."thanks verymuch"

(That particlar setting on the univibe is also evident during certain tracks at Woodstock and at latter performances aswell as studio engagements, e.g Rainbow Bridge(the album) amongst others)

    Thanks again.

  • Im pretty sure the effect he is using on this is the *Vibrato* setting on his Univibe. Ive never heard him use it on this song.

  • I think its better it was primitive. Because you had to try harder to make it sound. Now a days talent has sufferd because of guitar gero, casio keyboards, and effect pedals etc...

  • theres no soul anymore because.... music has ceased to be as "raw" as it used to be....

  • I know, right? It's terrible, today's music is just all, processed, for lack of a better term.

  • I wish the equipment was better in the sixties, jimi could of painted the cosmos even more colourfully.

  • not even.... back then they had the best quality equipment..... and it was better that it stayed like that.... the rawness of those times fostered more soulful types of music....

  • Hendrix would have probably loved some of the new guitar effects. He was always at the forefront of new technology and creating with it.

  • the difference between him and other artists today is that he actually would ahve really made the pedals an inovative and unique sound, not just another block of noise in today's guitarists huge arsenal

  • I believe you can buy the album of this show from Dagger Records

  • the first pic isnt him jimi was left handed

  • inverted pic

  • ooohhhhh ok sorry

  • i heard that jimi could also play like a right handed, that's not a joke

  • i dunno

  • thats true. i read he had to learn to play right handed when he was learning, because his dad was there and he wasn't aloud to play lefty in from of his dad for religious reasons. he was dominant lefty though.

  • true. his father was religous and superstitious and believed that left represented evil so hendrix learned to play right-handed so when his father came along he would play that way. of course he was better left-handed since he was dominantly lefty

  • ya, thats also why he writes with his right hand I bet. once you learn to write one way it hard to change, especially if you do so at an early suggestible age.

how gullible do you have to be to believe that the left hand is a sign of the devil...

  • everybody had to write righthanded back then you would get beaten on yr hand if you did not

  • Jimi...what can I say

  • please post more stuff

  • Very Nice - Thanx gacelaxd!
