  • Oh my fuckin' god..that's SO awesome!!! FAST jeep's are SO!! fun!! What perfect gearing! What's the T176 out of??!

  • ths is one bad sob

  • your nuts for even going that fast in a cj lol

  • Inspiring. I've got a 401 getting ready for my CJ7. What compression ratio did you end up with? With the 268H, Edelbrock Performer Intake and the 600 cfm carb, what's the minimum octane you can run in it?

  • love it man this thing must be fricken nutts to drive

  • did you fix the oiling issue these are known to have?

  • that'll get you to your favorite muddin spot pretty damn quick

  • @sabol01 smell my scrotum bitch

  • Please post an updated vid! :D

  • You know what asshole,I later found out that I was wrong on that call. But you are an ignorant prick.Go fuck yourself.

  • @chado383 Of course he was also wrong, the 360 began production in 1970 and lasted until 1991.

  • ok, i like a v8 jeep as much as the next guy but i find it funny you spend the first min or so naming aftermarket parts and then go its pretty muchs tock, then you pop the hood and say yeah its got a revuilt 360 with new carb, intake, cam, chrome, 2" exhaust with flows andthis other shit, and then ur like its mostly stock

  • @HPJVRBLB44 its called sarcasm

  • Hello Again... in my profile i have a video of my jeep's Engine..... Please see it... i don't feel the jeep running like yours do.

now... i do have 33's muds, with the stock axels rings & pinions, so.. need to switch to a 4.11, and i also have the stock SR4, or T4, not sure what tranny i have.. oops.

But i'm getting closer to get it running strong like yours.. Right now it does looots of noise that i don't feel the power over the loud noise. i liked anyways..

  • @armovel

Nice install. Sounds good! Tune it in and have fun. We run 32's with 3.73's and beefed up axles and drive shafts.

  • they dont call the cj5 a widow maker for nothin chill out i have a 75 myself but i understand the heavy foot problem its hard to overcome

  • i got the same motor sleeping in my 87 Jeep pulling it out of there to install in a more recent jeep!

  • On a good day with this engine....10-12 MPG. Hard to keep the foot out of the pedal, it just rips!

  • Sweet jeep. Daily driver huh... what kinda gas mileage do you get?

  • This one has a T176 4 speed, original equipment.

  • Thanks Dolce CJ,

what tranny this jeep have??? i do have an SR4 that i'm planning to change.. i'm thinking on a T176, will that do better? in the sense or relying on not braking it offroading

  • why keep the manifolds on. i have a 401 ordering some dog leg headers now as the hookers had the wrong exaust port

  • @surferboy115

Nice Javelin! The CJ5 no longer has the stock exhaust manifolds. It has long fender well headers that dump out both sides. Also not has electronic fan (removed the mechanal clutch fan).

  • To armovel, oh you'll like, just be carefull!

  • ok.. My 1982 Jeep Renegade is at the mechanic now, I'm getting install in it an AMC 360, it does have a Street Perf. Cam, Edelbrook performance Intake, Holley Carb. 3" exhaust system, Hedman headers.... I'm anxious to see if it runs like yours or even a bit better....

  • Hey! Remember Thrillseekers on TV? Even my bone stock '77 304 CJ5 gives me an adrenalin boost when I step on it!

Take real good care though, some folks hurt themselves big time tryin' fast corners 'n stuff...

  • Nice Work Man!!! You need to be careful dude! That sumbitch is AWESOME! A short CJ5 even! You have her dialed in for sure! Just AWESOME!

  • On my 304 swap, the only thing I needed for the actual swap was the pass. frame-to-motor mount bracket, drivers side from the 258 was fine. The block-to-mount bracket is different if your donor engine is from a car. The swap was so worth it. If I was to do another swap, I'd do a 360. The secret to AMC motors is the dogleg ports (exh), but be careful, later heads tend to run hot. Google: American Performance in Cocoa, Florida. Keep me posted!

  • @Tephladon Unless your gonna splurge for good heads on a SBC, mod for mod an AMC 360 will outgun a 350 chev...far less complicated swap as well.

  • mostly stock with angle valve job, cam intake. carb. thats no place near stock

  • i have watched sooo many times this video, i really enjoy it every time i see it.. i used to have a 1964 wagoneer with a chevy 327 in it, and it ran a bit with your jeep burned tires in 2nd and 3rd gear..

  • That little bastard will shit 'n get! They really need to build v8 wranglers.

  • very nice jeep

    i have a 79 cj7 with a 84 AMC 360 V8 in it

cant wait to take it offroad and out on the highway n see what she can do

the inside of youy jeep looks really nice also

  • Register and discuss about this car in V6wall com ;)

  • wow i like !!!

  • Axles at the time of this video was stock with 2.76 gears. Now 3.73.

  • what was the axle at the time of this vid?

  • thats my son!

  • 75 MPH!

my 75 shakes like a dog shittin' razor blades at 55

  • 75? Try over 100mph. It runs the 1/4 mile in low 14's at 100mph, and that was before the differential gears were changed from 2.76 to 3.73.

  • @DolceCJ

what do you know the guy or something?

  • yes, he's my son. We built this up in our garage. I was with him at Thunder Valley raceway during a test & tune nite when he was running the 1/4 mile. This little CJ is even more fun off road, especially hill climbing.

  • @DolceCJ

well i guess you do know him

    lmao

  • 75 was a good year for CJ's. Right before the body change. You still have yours?

  • @DolceCJ

    yes sir

its in the shop right now

    new clutch and lube change

shes got a Dana Power-Loc in the rear with 4.10's

  • SInce this video: MSD HEI ignition. Electronic cooling fan (removed the clutch mechanical fan). Fender well long headers into the flowmasters dumping out the side. This with the 3.37 gears. Last time we took it to the track it would not hook up on the 32's. Kept breaking traction in 3rd gear.

  • omg :DDDDD

  • that's a freakin sweet jeep, id love to see another vid

  • sounds really good, but come on, fix that speedo , like 0-60 in 4 seconds ? no way

  • i have a 1975 cj5 with a 304 v8, long tube headers, edelbrock performer intake, and holley 650cfm carb. I also have the t-176, and MUSTANGTOMIATA is right...2nd and 3rd are a little far apart, but not very noticeable with a v8 though.

  • lol the speedometer doesnt wanna coorperate

  • nice, i just got a 79 cj7 with a 84 amc 360 v8 in it, tell me how you like it. nice jeep, it sounds good

  • spedometer is off

  • that thing is a beast

  • Will the 360 fit right onto the 258 motor mounts with the x-15 transmission?

  • The only real knock I have on the t-176 is that 2nd and third are really spaced out, which is even worse with the 258, 2.73's and 4 speed like I have. Looks good though and sounds sweet.

  • i've got an 1984 Jeep CJ7 35 inch mickey thompson tires catback's 300 horsepower amc 360v8 hard-top ftw

  • my dad had a '78 CJ5, 360 V8 out of a Gremlin, 2.5" lift, 32" A/T's, 4 speed on the floor and KC Hi-Lites on the nerf bar

  • I have a 91 Grandwag I swapped in a 401 :)

  • how fast does it do a 1/4 mile

  • so whos jeep is this, cuz there is another guy on youtube thats claiming it is his..... just though you should know...

  • Shit dude, that thing hauls ass, I loved the last run you did in it, when you stomped it on the highway, and the front end raised up, also the 2nd gear scratch was great. Sounds similar to a 86 mustang I had, (check my vids) It would get a 2nd gear scratch, I think yours is a bit faster though lol.

  • Bad Ass!!! Wish my CJ-5 was like that!!!

  • dude, you got a bad ass jeep!!!

  • Thats pretty crazy.

  • Thier is no such thing as a 1988 amc 360,you must have an 86.Awsome jeep, love it.

  • Sorry, but it is. Came out of a 1988 AMC Grand Wagoneer.

  • The Jeep is an 81. The AMC 360 is out of a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. They made the Grand Wagoneer with the 360 until 1991.

  • @scrible88 and after they discontinued the 360 in the jeep they replaced it with a 318 and dodge took the 360 cid motor and started putting them in their applications

  • @hatchetknight no dodge started building the 360 in 1972 amc used its design an amc 360 will bolt right up to any dodge tranny

  • @countryrebel5 Incorrect. AMC V8 engines are based on a 1950s design. The AMC 304, 360, 390, and 401 are all the same engine basically.

Chrysler 360 and AMC 360 are two completely different things.

  • @1impalaman ok, i was incorrect thanks for bringin the facts to an argument but i know from personal experience that a amc 360 will bolt up to a 727 but that could have been the transmission put in the wagoneers

  • @countryrebel5 and this is incorrect i had a 727 hd out of a dodge maxy van and the housing doesnt match but i did use all the internals in my amc 727 housing

  • @hatchetknight no they wont match up they used the same internals but the housings are different i had a dodge motor home trans so it was a 727 hd and the housing wouldnt match up but i used all the internals to build my 727 amc housing and it fit perfect

  • @chado383 you are a dumb mother fucker they made a 360 from the 1965 to 1989 trust me i know i have owned so many jeeps and im a mechanic that restores cars

  • how would be the best way to cut a dash out of diamond plate for a cj7?

  • Jigsaw! Serriously. With a regular old wood cutting blade.

  • thanks man!!! i was arguing myself between a jigsaw and a sawzall

  • why not just buy the one they sell for them? its not that expensive and all gthe holes are already drilled....i did a hole diamond plate dash for a cj7 in half hour to 45 minutes not to long ago

  • that makes so much more sense, lol i never even thought of that.

  • yah man haha the only thing was you had to filer out some of the holes a tiny bit for some of the switched for lights, wiper, etc

  • hey man thats a great 81 there I got 92 with 350 LT4 hot cam and performer intake and shorty headers I was wondering about your brakes if they still weak or did you modify your brake system? my brake system is weak thats why I'm asking about the brake system

  • Scary fast. What is the wheel base, 83"?

What rear end do you have in it? I had a 76 CJ-5 with a AMC model 20 rear. I went through 6 of those 2 piece axles before the housing started to come apart.

    That was with a 232 strait 6.

A buddy 30 years back bolted a built AMC 401 into his 75 CJ. He promptly blew out the Dana 44 rear.

He found a Ford Dana 60 with the same lug bolt pattern and had the the rear cut down to fit.

Last I heard he flipped his CJ over backwards in a parking lot.

  • All i can say is........ FUCK!

  • every time I watch this, i smile.

  • thats a fast son of a bitch

  • how much is that engine? i think im gonna use it in my 81 cj 7.

  • Did I hear you chirp the tires in second? That's unheard of in a Jeep. Wow.

  • Haha yep, I need to get a new video up, I have done quite a bit to it since the video was made over a year ago. Now it will get away from you in second and chirp hard into 3rd.

  • hellow i have a 1981 grand wagoneer with the 360 will a 4 berrel carb make a difrence

  • how is that unheard of dude? i can chirp 3rd with my straight 6 w/4.10 gears and 33" mtr's

  • @jawsrock1 My 79 with 304, Summit-8600 cam, Motorcraft 2-bbl, stock exhaust, and 3 speed manual will chirp the hell out of the tires in second gear.

  • I have a Jeep truck with a 79 AMC 360. That's a nice looking rig you got there

  • dayum

  • that crazy man to do 100mph in a jeep with big tires and a short wheel bace like that one wrong bump and your dead your not in a race car

  • man driveing on the freeway in a cj-7 at 90mph is scary i can imagine what this is like

  • That's ... I'm speechless. I love the pegged speedometer lol

  • Ill try to make a video of mine tomorrow... its got a 396 thats been bored out... rated right at 400 horses....

  • Thats a pretty quick jeep man, cool shit. How does it wheel?

  • Very nice ride man! Always was fond of the CJ's with a bit of power :D

    5stars vid!

  • That is a bad ass CJ5 I take it, you have the larger chambered heads? Very nice, I would never take my 7 over 70mpg. Very nice.

  • Pointless? Not when you wheel'n. Love that power. Never seen a GTO off-roading.

  • because in a 1/4 mile drag race the jeep is faster and it can go offroad a little better than a GTO

  • because if you have a gto when someone pulls up to the light beside you they know you got a big engine but in a jeep people aways say i can beat that little thing it prob only does 55mph. i love my 304 in my cj5 wish i had a 360. hopefully some day

  • Maybe the same reason people buy Pick up trucks to go shopping at the mall.

  • That's crazy! I don't like getting my CJ7 past 70, you're going at least 100! Nice 5.

  • is it possible to put an engine like that into a jeep comanche?

  • anythings possible... i wana 401 in mine some day

  • classic masterpiece! 5 stars

  • AMC to AMC swap is pretty easy except for the actual labor of doing it. You may need a fly wheel if the 360 or 401 is out of an automatic and your CJ is a standard. Would recommend you also upgrade the motor mounts.

  • What gears are you running? I've got an AMC304, NP435, and 3.54 in the axles if the markings are correct. RPMs are too high to drive over 55-60mph with it.

  • 3.73's, but it will easily run up to 60mph in 2nd with a safe redline at about 5500rpm. I haven't tried pushing it past that, the motor still sounds really good at 5500rpm.

  • That makes me wonder if mine got changed.

  • Well, the automatics have a flexplate so you need a flywheel if the motor came out of a wagoneer since they did not have a standard transmission option. The 242 (I6), 258 (I6) and the 304, 360, and 401 flywheels are all different so it has to be motor specific because they are externally balanced motors if I remember correctly. The M.O.R.E. bombproof solid motor mounts is what is on my CJ-5.

  • Good god! I so want a 360 or 401. Just don't want to face the rebuild costs. Hopefully I can find a decent used one for my CJ7. Gotta be an easier swap than my NP435.

  • An AMC motor is pretty easy except for the actual labor of doing it. If the 360 or 401 is from an automatic and you have a standard you'll need a new fly wheel instead of the flexplate. Would recommend you also upgrade the engine mounts.

  • hey i got a question , i bought a amc 360 with a torque flite 727 and a np215 transfer case i believe, and i have a an 1985 cj7 ... is there any problem with the transfer case ratio compared to the dana 300 it has now, like would it be a perfect switch without changing the rear axle

  • great video, I really appreciate the spec info. I got a 79 cj7, with an amc 360, 727 torqeflight, and borg warner gear to gear tansfer case. not sure what the axle ratio,s are. The jeep really needs a lot of work. Been holding on to it for a restore one day. Videos like these really light the fire and make me wanna get in gear on the ole jeep. Thanks again for posting! awesome!!!

  • That's what I'm talk'n about. Move it!

  • great job dude that thing is a beast how do u remain so comm about it wicked

  • The 360 in my J10 moves pretty good, that must be insane to drive a CJ with one!

  • is there anyway you can send me this file directly.. i need to show someone where i work this... We are behind a strick firewall...

  • This is the coolest video i have seen.. lol i am definately getting some flows for my Cherokee chief 401 too bad its not a stick

  • Thats mad man! Love it :)

  • umm... holy sh!t.

  • awesome jeep! does anyone know if the amc360 was a factory option for the cj5 or cj7? by the way jeeps are for mudding not hauling a** down the highway lol.

  • No the 360 was never an option for the cj's.

  • Largest motor they put in a CJ was a 304.

    I have a 360 in my 1978 CJ5.

  • Damn, the sound of an amc motor is awesome.

  • i dislike the cj-5 every time you get in and out you bump your rear end

  • my freaking jaw just dropped. really nice cj you got there. you said u ran it at the strip, what was your time

  • Ran 14.5 to 14.8 in the 1/4 with 2.76 (stock) gears in the axles.

Recently upgraded to 3.73 gears and HEI ignition (the stock Ford ignition is crap) and back at the drag strip could not hookup. It was a cool evening (track was not sticky) and kept breaking loose, even in 3rd gear.

  • thats a sweet jeep man. love it. but driving any jeep much less a lifted cj5 at those speeds is freaking insane man... my cj7 gets really squirrelly at about 65 mph... b safe brother. its a jeep thing!

  • i have a 78 j-10 pickup with the amc 360 built much like yours except with headers and pistons from a 343 for more compression-its fast but my truck is heavier than yours by 1000lbs so not as quick.amc 360 is a great motor

  • Even though you seem like you know what you're doing,I'm not used to riding in anything with power. But I will have to say this... I really like your Jeep. It's manly.

  • I'd be afraid to ride with you.

  • great looking jeep wish i had the money to do the 360 but im stuck with the 304 for now

  • Cool! Just be careful with that short wheelbase and high speed. AMC, All Makes of Cars

  • love this thing. its a bad ass jeeper

  • thanks for the reply, not bad!, that helps, I've had my 95 YJ four point slow for a half yr, now I definately feel ive made a mistake if the 360 gets the same mpg, and i get that much mpg getting passed/drivin like a granny

  • No problem with the 360 running at any Hwy speed. All 4 gears pull hard, lots of torque.

  • I know this is a stupid question but im gonna' ask it anyways, when not stepping into it too much, what kinda mpg do you get? I've read from 17 to 10 to 6, carbed.

  • About 15-17 mpg when you easy on the pedal, 10-12mpg when wheel'n or have a heavy foot.

  • ive seen this get a little better than that

  • sweet rig. Im getting ready to swap a built 360 into my 73 cj5. was wondering what tranny you ran. have fun driving that beast.

  • T176, have had no problems with it, so far it has been bulletproof.

  • I run a t-18. havent had any problems with it except i have a custom fabed hydraulic clutch out of a toyota pickup that is very strong.

  • WOW!! Now that's the way I want my CJ-7 to run. Any work other than the 3 angle valve job on the heads. Also I'm curious what type piston's (compression ratio) were installed.

  • Super sweet CJ!!! I myself am trying to resurrect my CJ 8 and would love to drop a v8 in it. See my first startup after a year of sitting. Watch it here on youtube. watch?v=QuD5sSIax_o

  • Wow, amazing jeep, very fast, I'm really thinkin about goin with 32in bfg a/t's too. what size are your rims? 15x8 or 15x10? i'm guessing, thnx!

  • burn serious rubber w that set up

  • Be ready to fix the weak links, by that I mean upgrade to stronger driveshafts, 1/2 ton knuckle joints up front, chrome molly shafts, 1 piece rear axle if running an AMC 20, etc... because a V8, especially one with power and torque like this one will find and break the weak links. If your not breakin your not wheelin.

  • Recently upgraded the crappy Ford ingnition that comes stock on many CJ's to an HEI. Noticed a defininte inprovement, worth the cost. Any way you won't be disappointed with a V8 in a CJ.

  • Recently upgraded the crappy Ford ingnition that comes stock on many CJ's to an HEI. Noticed a defininte inprovement, worth the cost. Any way you won't be disappointed with a V8 in a CJ.

  • first of all great video. That thing scoots. I'm thinking about putting a Mopar 360 EFI motor in a CJ7 and I wanted to know how much horsepower the T-176 will take. Also what transfer case you are using? I'm looking at the later 360's with 250 hp and 325 ft-lb. What kind of power does your 360 make? If it is under the Mopar numbers, this combo of yours seems like the hot ticket. Thanks

  • This AMC 360 is out of a 1988 Grand Wagoneer, as is said on the video. With some performance upgrades, intake, comp cam etc... The axle gearing was changed to 3.73 which really helps it to launch. Exact HP is hard to calculate but at times almost seems to be too much for a short wheel base CJ5. The T-176 does not have any problems with the V8, coupled to a Dana 300 transfer case which is bullet proof.

  • Sounds like you have ridden in it. Bet it is not much in the mud with those skinny street tires. He should put some boggers on it.

  • I gotta have this 5. Imagine a set of paddle tires on the rear and running this at the dunes. Glad to see he didn't put a Ford or Chevy motor in it. AMC makes great horsepower when setup right.

  • it does great at the dunes without any paddle tires

    that was a great time

  • i love this jeep

  • i am building a 302w with some mods for my early model CJ5. Loved the clip!, its got me all excited! What sort of brakes are you running?

  • Brakes are stock, disc up front and drum in the rear. No power assist.

  • what good is a ford motor?

  • paperweight??

    AMC all the way

  • still lovin the jeep drew try and figure out who this is lol

  • that thing does not play around. it MOVES!!!!

  • i get scared at 75mph in my cj5

  • thanx, now i just have to find a tranny like that for myself

  • awesome!!where does the transmission come from?

  • the tranny in it is the stock one...

only people that know that jeep better than me is scrible88 and his dad...and i still want it

  • cool ride dude! I love jeeps
