  • a great woman who respected and derived her strength from Christ's "bride", the Catholic Church. .."Christ became food and drink for us" ....the sustenance Dorothy shared with the poor.

  • Somehow, this reminds me of "Schindler's List" (please forgive the spelling of the last name). If I have my information right, Oscar Schindler didn't want to be construed as a saint or a hero, either. And yet, that's exactly what they turned out to be in the end.

  • You're right. I don't want to piss off any Christians. Scary people. Sorry. You're correct. How's that?

  • One of the greatest Americans ever.

  • @wookie72 If we had 10,000 Dorothy Days or Oscar Romeros in America since about 1980, we would have stopped many wars whether started by President Ronald Bush, George W. Cheney, or Obama Clinton.

  • doing a project on her!!

    this helped a lot

    thanksss

  • It is funny to read an argument between two people who can't spell beyond second grade level. It's also funny to read the opinions of people who can justify killing in the name of Christ but are against abortion. Sadly, there are far too many people on this small planet and reproducing wantonly should be the sin.

  • @yeenman Provide a single quote from Dorothy Day in which she justified killing in the name of Christ.

Dorothy Day was against abortion, that is true. However, she would not have turned away someone who had had an abortion. It was not her place to judge them.

What the hell does this have to do with a woman who did more to feed and clothe people that you ever could in your lifetime?

  • Wow. I had only heard of the star blonde.

  • "Love is not the starving of whole populations. Love is not the bombardment of open cities. Love is not killing......Our manifesto is the Sermon on the Mount, which means that we will try to be peacemakers."-Dorothy Day

DD is The Patron Saint of my website, mentor, guiding light and every day i wake up and wonder; What Would DD say today about the sorry state of our union, churches and mainstream media.

THANK YOU for posting this gift!

  • Dorothy Day was The Real Deal--A true Christian in DEEDS, not just words, slobbering over salvation and bowing mindlessly to authority, as is so common these days.

    God Bless Dorothy Day!

  • Just learning about this amazing woman

  • So then AmateurEmale, then it wouldn't bother you in the slightest, if all of a sudden your mother who owns your life, as you sprang from 'her' body only because she let you, decided she made a mistake and killed you now... right???

What's a few years, here and there between mother and child ?

  • My mother was pro-choice, not pro-life. She voluntarily decided to have children and to stay pregnant, even though Roe v. Wade was three years before my birthday. However, even if she would have aborted me, it would have been her choice. Freedom of abortion is based on property rights, specifically ownership of your body. Neither God nor the government owns anyone's body, only they do. Therefore, your Church and Pope can fuck off.

  • Thanks for the fuck off, it really shows your interested in a civil discussion and I have a feeling your a mature person. Anyway, when does life begin for you? Is it ok to kill a baby a day before his/her due date? What about two weeks before? How about two months before? The Church teaches that life has to begin at conception, but where do you believe it begins? When is that fetus a person? If its not at conception, where chromosomes form a human being, when does it turn into a person?

  • You don't own another person's life. You can't claim ownership of people seconds before they're born, and you can't months before either. It doesn't depend on their stage of development if they're human or not

Female body by its natural course would carry the baby until birth, and unnatural thing would be abortion(and violent for both). But killing a defenseless baby before it's born is nothing short of a murder, perhaps the worst kind. It's easy for you to think otherwise now that you're alive.

  • actully ya i agree pro choice sure i dont agree with abortion lmao but hey its yur life yur body wtf of rights do i have tellin yu how to use it? but ya god does technacly own yur body but ya lmao i still agree with yu its yur body not mine

  • @AmateurEmale it's incoherent to suggest that you have any rights apart from the God who created us. I'm sorry that you understand law better than love. Find God, then you will find your true self and discover what true freedom is about. By the way, the Roe in Roe v. Wade, Norma McCorvey, is now a pro-life Catholic. She became disillusioned w the "pro-choice" movement that used her like a piece of meat for its propaganda. Now she is on the side of truth & love instead of destruction & hate.

  • She exemplifies what it means to be a seeker...to search and to find. That is, in essence, what a saintly person is.

  • I think that she was wonderful. She reminds me of Margaret Mary. She was truly repentant for all her sins. She did everything the slow but sure way. She always did was the most important at the time.

She is prob in heaven, and i hope that she is praying for me.

  • Dorothy Day is one of my heroes. She really makes the rubber hit the road.

  • i mean im pro-choice, but dorothy day, is tite, so dont hate.

  • If your great-grandmother had had an abortion, you might not be here.

  • Someone has to defend the sanctity of human life.

  • I will have to check this out. If Flobots recommend it, it's worth checking out in MY books.

  • I don't know that I would agree with the analysis of her being an anarchist. Dorothy was a distributist, and distributists hold the necessity of State (as does the Church) through decentralization (subsidiarity).

  • Where does the Church "hold the necessity of State"? The state is a secular institution founded on violence and run by coercion. The Church is a voluntary society of believers in Jesus Christ.

  • Well, Christ himself ordered "render unto Ceasar" and the early Church Fathers worked out the debate of supporting the Empire while still maintaining a mostly pacifistic bent (although certain Fathers diverged on this point). But, I would agree with GenFerrer1 that it seems a bit oversimplifying to call Dorothy an anarchist.

  • Correction: The church is founded on violence and run by coercion.

  • @yeenman

"The church is founded on violence and run by coercion."

Oh, yeah, right. I remember now. Let's see. First Jesus conquered

Palestine and then the Apostles went around forcing people to

join the Church. Yes, it's all coming back to me now.

Thanks for sharing your delusion with us. I'm sure you have

some new and interesting understanding of what "violence"

and "coercion" mean, but I'm afraid I'm not interested.

Go bait someone else with your nonsense. Honestly!

  • @OgeronimonominoregO

C'mon! After eight years of Catholic school, I've seen the coercion firsthand. The violence is in the middle east right now. What delusion?

  • Thank you.

    A great video!

    Peace on Earth.

  • She was and always will be my hero. Her life was the often silent witness to what it truly means to love our neighbor as ourselves. She awes me still.
