"IBEW bro-Tommy Aldrige UP & Moby Dick Zeppelin Black Sabbath drum solo by-definition"
@Ludwigzildjian1 no, thats not the reason why he is better, he is better because he opened the door for rock drumming, his style was unpredictable, and could never be imitated, his constant fills and triplets were ridiculous, and in a way, sound. He played with emotion, and feeling and gave the who's music energy, isn't that what rock and roll is about? A drummer did not define a band as much as keith moon did, not even bonham, also bonham is a close 2nd, this is all why moon is the greatest.
Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com
There are great technicians like Pert and Rich, but NOBODY rocks better than John Henry Bonham! He was the greatest rock drummer that will ever be, especially since rock is dying.
I love all styles and like the way "Mick Tucker" from (The Sweet) had such an inpact on my style.. not cos he was fast or though he could be but, you could learn a lot from his fills in the B-sides that the band did. most Drummer have there own way of playing and we can all learn something from them. Thanks For posting.
'I'm a simple straight forward drummer and I don't pretend to be anything better than I am.' - John Bonham. The best thing about him was, he wasn't arrogant. No wonder he's one of the greatest.
The thing with John's drumming is not only is it extremely hard to copy but the fact that he thought of doing those specific beats to the songs. If I had not heard the songs before and someone started playing "When the Levee breaks" or "Good times bad times" on the guitar, the beat I would be doing would be nothing like what John came up with. So unique and so perfectly suited to the song being played. Just a freakin genius. Master of all time.
@skaxamax Excactly !! He was so Unique and Just think of how many Drummers have tried to copy his style. He was a genius for sure ! I mean "fool in the rain". How the hell did he come up with the beat? He was a pioneer!
I think people need to chill out and stop hating on old and new music. Jordison doesn't suck, neither does Avenged Sevenfold's James Sullivan, or Escape the Fate's Robert Ortiz. Same thing with AC/DC, or Led Zeppelin, or the Beatles. Everyone deserves their own respect for trying no matter what music it is. That's why I listen to classic rock, jazz, rap, hip hop, death metal, speed metal, heavy metal..I respect it all because they try. People need to quit hating.
i think that... unless we create a schedule with points and that everything... we can not say who is the best drummer... and for me, this way, is allright

I know it is hard to believe, but drumming started way before Travis was born. When an icon like John Bonham, said his influences wre Gene Krupa & Buddy Rich, maybe you punks need to look that s.... up! When I say Vistalites, you say "huh".
John Bonham has been voted the best drummer ever to have lived, every single year by the best musicians in the world. Who the fuck is saying he isn't the best? Are you deaf? Or are you a Justin Bieber fan?
Bonham was an incredible drummer, but as a professional drummer I have to go with Keith Moon for Greatest of All Time honors with Bonham a close second.
@jordanjcm oh without a doubt...keith was amazing..sloppy and all over the place..that was his style, the way he choose to play...no one could ever duplicate his unique style, but oddly enough, it worked for the who...he gave their music so much energy, and emotion and feel to their music, and even tho it was all over the place and sloppy, it was perfect for their music, gave it emotion, feeling, and energy...isnt that what rock and roll is about?
@jaqua524 Very true, very true. The Who were never the same after keith. I loved his drumming, I just would not call him "greatest of all time". Then again I would not call any drummer the 'greatest' because too many people "compare" drummers and they should just recognice the styles of different drummers. I have respect for almost all drummers and all drum styles.
@jordanjcm yes agreed....technical skill does not necessarily make someone "the greatest" infact, in a way you are correct, there is no such thing as the greatest..who determines this? its all opinionated
Truth is guys, music is about feeling and producing a sound, that sounds good. Travis Barker might not be able to hit the drums in as many complex ways as John Bonham, but he plays with emotion that the young audience today can relate to. Teenagers today can't really relate to this. Music is about feeling and that is why Travis Barker is an excellent drummer. Just like the kids of the 70s went nuts for Bonzo on the drums.
@bijeleudovice2 Then you have to say Phil Collins,Drums,Piano,Vocals, writing songs ,And the guy can't read a quarter note.Go figure. Then Peart ,great drums ,Lyrics,Very musical. And yes Roger did great work,I love his drumming on Bicycle Races.Very Under rated. It's the three man bands that get the attenion. They have alot more room to fill.Tons of riffs, lots of players love that Shit. The music escapes them, they just want to play a lot of notes.,But people like that suck to play with.
@burlpen89 Exactly! everyone thinks that the faster you play the better you are, but really music is all about expression and most people nowadays forget that, for example Kurt Cobain showed us that songs dont have to be complex and hard to play. And drummers that try to hard and add too many fills in to beats are so hard to play with.
There are many Great drummers,But great drummer/ musicians are much harder to find,No one is the best,It's like saying what is the best tree on earth.None, They each have there own beauty. When it comes to drummers(And Electric guitar players)Speed is always the factor,Why?Who's the fastest tuba player on the planet?Who's the fastest piano player?Who asks those questions,No one. It's being a great musician that really counts,The bands they played with,The group as a whole made these guys famous
holy shit iwas listening to one of those video playlists on MTV .god dman the drumemrs must b so bored. they jsut do four on the floor rock beat for 4 minutes at a time, every once in a while add acrash. they think they so good.
i think i know why this drum solo isnt fast, 1st its in the middle of a song, and second i think they did this song right after they did moby dick, and anyone whos ever seen earls court moby dick would understand (Bonhams a BEAST)
People ... people... people... stop arguing about this inherently subjective matter. If you like someone - you like them, no further discussion. Why is someone a "jerk" for not agreeing. that is one thing I never understood about this site. It's like humans NEED to have conflict.. Everyone is a specialist. Everyone is RIGHT. Everyone else is WRONG.
RE: Blink 182. They obviously are doing something right -- they've sold over 10, 000, 000 albums. Don't ask me how or why - it's just a fact.
u cant really compare barker and bonham. 2 completely different styles. travis is more about speed and power. while john had that, he was definitely more rhythm oriented. sadly, for the new generation, travis is the idolized one. hes fast, but not nearly the best. for me hes third behind Tre (green day) and Cyrus (new found glory), and if were talking speed then Dave Macintosh from Dragonforce and Michael Bartlett from All That Remains take the gold.
we say this with guitar players that there will never be one like em, well we said it about hendrix (along came jimmy page, no disrespect to jimi because page dont sound like him but hes certainly got talent like hendrix) but im serious when i say john bonham is the best drummer of all time, with kieth moon, mitch mitchell, bill ward and the lot right behind and btw FUCK NEIL PEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
travis baker is good but there is so many people that are better, bonham isnt the best either, but i love his style, hes one of my favorites, and i agree, jordison sucks, all he does is play really fast, it has no creativity to it
he doesn't really play very fast either, he plays reasonable fast without sounding good and also with no creativity, there are plenty of technical faster drummers that make their solos and general drumming in songs sound great.
i have been influenced by barker , but i understand he isnt the best but he brings uniqueness and style to drums that have influenced younger new wave drummers like myself
its good to have a wide choice john bonham is my favourite by far though :)
@mreliassimpson I like'em all. The only reason i think joey Jordison is ok is because i've noticed he used rudiment with his feet which is pretty impressive but he's kind of uncreative otherwise.
man hes such a bad ass, i like a lot of drummers, buddy rich and mike portnoy are a couple of my favorites, but since listening to john im starting to like his work.
@axacingdude Lol... Moby Dick, Dazed and Confused, The Song Remains the Same, the list goes on and on... John Bonham is the best drummer of all time, he's got the intensity of Keith Moon with the precision of Neil Pert... Drummers today it's all about speed and it's horrendous... Slipknot's drumming is terrible, Punk has some pretty good beats but nothing compared to that of Bonham, Pert or Buddy Rich
@5uicide5ilence tony royster jr in my opinion is better than keith moon. we all have our own opinions but tbh you do get ideats that think joey jordison or travis barker who are the best which is stupid i no.
@GrizDrummer25 by Neil i take it youre talking about Neil Peart? nah man i prefer bonham to peart, although Weckl and Smith are out of this world. Still, in my opinion, Buddy stands tall in any argument about the "God of drumming"
@Smackenzieth People just think that a certain person drums fast, that means they're amazing. It's all about like rhythm and the groove, I feel so bad for people when they're like "TRAVIS PARKER IS THE BEST DRUMMER EVER!" It gives me a good laugh.
@Musefan6732 most of the time yes. as long as you can feel the music then i say thats what makes a good drummer. if they can keep in perfect rhythm and time and still feel it, then so be it. you cant say that every drummer who plays fast isnt talented or unable to feel the music. travis barker has no feel for the drums just by listening.just cuz hes good at rudiments does not qualify as a feel for drums.depends on what u like tho.
@Smackenzieth Travis Barker became famous because of all the comercials he did. which got people to know travis barker which made him famous cause everyone who isn't a drummer liked him cause it was one of the only drummers they know. and some drummers like Travis. I preferably like John Bonham better.
Your a retard. Idiots are the only people that can't decipher a drummer from another. Stop your complaining and go play the friggen slide whistle you musical idiot...
i learn from every drummer i hear. i either learn more... or learn less. it's that middle ear that should wake all of you up. if you don't learn what not to play..how do you learn what to play. learn from every drummer cause they all can teach you something
no offense only vid iv seen of the dude but... all he did on this was snare 2-3 times with a bass then switch to a tom the back to snare then another tom ect. then a double crash? with maybe a 3-4 beat fill in there? ill watch another i guess.
@woorso. Dude. He's considered to be the greatest drummer of all time. Go watch other videos of him. By the way, you mind posting a video response to show us your awesome skills?
@woorso...it's common on drummers' videos that a "Who's the Best/Better Drummer?" issue comes up...as a drummer myself, I enjoy music and drumming - and I can live with the fact that perhaps MOST other drummers are better than myself...I don't feel Bonham was in the upper echelon of drummers - but I still respect his playing and creativity...I'm guessing that HE played drums because he enjoyed it, not necessarily to become the best drummer...
@davss5 I did not say otherwise, I said that is not the best in the world, just this ... well I play and I know that there is a lot, but many people better than me but this has not given me trouble ever ...
Thanks for your reply...I admit that I'm concerned that you misunderstood the "tone" of parts of my reply...I was replying to your point about (others) "criticizing" - which lead me to step onto my own "soapbox" about how others get into the "Best/Better Drummer" issue (in an unconstructive manner)...so my comments about Bonham were not aimed at you, but (aimed) at other unappreciative/unfair critics...I appreciate that you're comfortable with your own skill level...thanks again...blessings...
@davss5 sorry but I'm not English, I understood more or less what you wrote but I'm not sure I played well ... However, officials estimate that you are able to make an intelligent discussion ...see you
The best two drummers in my opinion were John Bonham and Buddy Rich. There are a lot of good drummers out there and even some really gifted drummers. But to me, Bonham and Rich were the best.

u cant really compare barker and bonham. 2 completely different styles. travis is more about speed and power. while john had that, he was definitely more rhythm oriented. sadly, for the new generation, travis is the idolized one. hes fast, but not nearly the best. for me hes third behind Tre (green day) and Cyrus (new found glory), and if were talking speed then Dave Macintosh from Dragonforce and Michael Bartlett from All That Remains take the gold.

ok seriously SHUT UP!!!!!! people can think what they want bout Travis Barker if they like him they like him

we say this with guitar players that there will never be one like em, well we said it about hendrix (along came jimmy page, no disrespect to jimi because page dont sound like him but hes certainly got talent like hendrix) but im serious when i say john bonham is the best drummer of all time, with kieth moon, mitch mitchell, bill ward and the lot right behind and btw FUCK NEIL PEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL @ some people.... oh yeah this drummers awesome.... my nan could play a solo better than that :L
TheLieamage 1 year ago
travis baker is good but there is so many people that are better, bonham isnt the best either, but i love his style, hes one of my favorites, and i agree, jordison sucks, all he does is play really fast, it has no creativity to it
dustinj49 1 year ago 13
he doesn't really play very fast either, he plays reasonable fast without sounding good and also with no creativity, there are plenty of technical faster drummers that make their solos and general drumming in songs sound great.
ChaosTheory909 1 year ago
@dustinj49 A good drummer that is fast and creative is Dave Abbruzzese. But he does know how to run his mouth too.
itaintlikethat90 1 year ago
@dustinj49 Seriously? Bonham is the best... Neil Pert is the best alive... But Bonham is the best... Buddy Rich is 2nd best and Neil Pert is 3rd
5uicide5ilence 1 year ago
i have been influenced by barker , but i understand he isnt the best but he brings uniqueness and style to drums that have influenced younger new wave drummers like myself
its good to have a wide choice john bonham is my favourite by far though :)
oh and jordison SUCKS
mreliassimpson 1 year ago
@mreliassimpson I like'em all. The only reason i think joey Jordison is ok is because i've noticed he used rudiment with his feet which is pretty impressive but he's kind of uncreative otherwise.

not his best but omg ive seen him blow my mind like 100 times

@Smackenzieth what makes john bonham so good
axacingdude 1 year ago
well i can list you many reasons if you're testing me.but check out moby dick and you'll see why
Smackenzieth 1 year ago
@axacingdude Lol... Moby Dick, Dazed and Confused, The Song Remains the Same, the list goes on and on... John Bonham is the best drummer of all time, he's got the intensity of Keith Moon with the precision of Neil Pert... Drummers today it's all about speed and it's horrendous... Slipknot's drumming is terrible, Punk has some pretty good beats but nothing compared to that of Bonham, Pert or Buddy Rich
5uicide5ilence 1 year ago
@5uicide5ilence tony royster jr in my opinion is better than keith moon. we all have our own opinions but tbh you do get ideats that think joey jordison or travis barker who are the best which is stupid i no.
axacingdude 1 year ago
@Smackenzieth Nothing at all? He's a great drummer. At same time no one comes close to John.

GrizDrummer25 1 year ago
@GrizDrummer25 by Neil i take it youre talking about Neil Peart? nah man i prefer bonham to peart, although Weckl and Smith are out of this world. Still, in my opinion, Buddy stands tall in any argument about the "God of drumming"
drummerman55 1 year ago
@Smackenzieth People just think that a certain person drums fast, that means they're amazing. It's all about like rhythm and the groove, I feel so bad for people when they're like "TRAVIS PARKER IS THE BEST DRUMMER EVER!" It gives me a good laugh.
Musefan6732 1 year ago
@Musefan6732 most of the time yes. as long as you can feel the music then i say thats what makes a good drummer. if they can keep in perfect rhythm and time and still feel it, then so be it. you cant say that every drummer who plays fast isnt talented or unable to feel the music. travis barker has no feel for the drums just by listening.just cuz hes good at rudiments does not qualify as a feel for drums.depends on what u like tho.
Smackenzieth 1 year ago
@Smackenzieth Travis Barker became famous because of all the comercials he did. which got people to know travis barker which made him famous cause everyone who isn't a drummer liked him cause it was one of the only drummers they know. and some drummers like Travis. I preferably like John Bonham better.

woorso 2 years ago
@woorso. Dude. He's considered to be the greatest drummer of all time. Go watch other videos of him. By the way, you mind posting a video response to show us your awesome skills?
Elite10317 2 years ago
@Elite10317 i watch some videos... i don't think that he is the best...
i'm not a drummer, but must necessarily be better than something to criticize?
woorso 2 years ago
@woorso...it's common on drummers' videos that a "Who's the Best/Better Drummer?" issue comes up...as a drummer myself, I enjoy music and drumming - and I can live with the fact that perhaps MOST other drummers are better than myself...I don't feel Bonham was in the upper echelon of drummers - but I still respect his playing and creativity...I'm guessing that HE played drums because he enjoyed it, not necessarily to become the best drummer...
davss5 2 years ago
@davss5 I did not say otherwise, I said that is not the best in the world, just this ... well I play and I know that there is a lot, but many people better than me but this has not given me trouble ever ...
woorso 2 years ago
Thanks for your reply...I admit that I'm concerned that you misunderstood the "tone" of parts of my reply...I was replying to your point about (others) "criticizing" - which lead me to step onto my own "soapbox" about how others get into the "Best/Better Drummer" issue (in an unconstructive manner)...so my comments about Bonham were not aimed at you, but (aimed) at other unappreciative/unfair critics...I appreciate that you're comfortable with your own skill level...thanks again...blessings...
davss5 2 years ago
@davss5 sorry but I'm not English, I understood more or less what you wrote but I'm not sure I played well ... However, officials estimate that you are able to make an intelligent discussion ...see you
