  • I love to be there and watch him... He is talented.

  • Brilliant!!!!

  • Where's Danny's "Dance of the Comedians"? That's a classic.

  • Steve Martin and Jim Carey owe everything to this man.

  • LOVE HIM SOOO MUCH.

  • Goodness gracious... They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • wow so amazeing..... to bad he is gone.....

  • I was lucky enough to see Danny Kaye perform this skit with the San Diego Symphony a long time ago. It was one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life.

  • Danny Kaye could conduct! Is there nothing he could not do? What a talent, and a lovely human being to boot.

  • Another fabulous entertainer -- look for Victor Borge on YOUTUBE.

  • WOW very grand intro and ending!! SUPERB!

  • 8 people doesn't have sense of humor

  • @smole133 They sure doesn't don't have any none nohow. ;-)

  • 8 people play the trumpet really badly and got beaten up by danny kaye after the show :D i love this man ....the greatest ever!

  • So great! Thanks for sharing! :-)

  • They just don't make them like him anymore, mores the pity, one of my all time favourite entertainers.

  • Supergenial, ya le he metido en favoritos......

Me trae tan gratos y divertidos recuerdos.........

  • Rapaport? O'Leary? What?

  • @Honken UGly people maybe?

  • @Zimnyification

Maybe they were famous before my time, I don't really get that joke! :(

  • Noel Coward called Kaye "randy Dany Kaminski"

David Daniel Kaminski was Kaye's real name.

Kaye and Laurence Olivier were "epris" (in love)

per the Queen's late Aunt, Princess Marina, who was

involved with the bisexual and married Kaye for

    several years.

Daily Mail: Larry Gay? Of course he was

    by Michael Thornton

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • he always makes me happy and smiley, thanks man..

  • Oh lord, that was magnificent, when the lone trumpet player starts up Danny Kaye's gestures and expressions are priceless. Thanks for this great reminder of the old comedy.

  • This was FABULOUS!

  • Brilliant !!

  • I personally never found Kaye funny, let alone a great talent.

My parents, who were teens when he became popular, would always enjoy when he'd make an appearance like this on tv along with his old Goldwyn movies.

I personally think Eddie Cantor is much more enjoyable in the Goldwyn films then Kaye.

  • @SatchmoSings Well, you're forgiven. After all you aren't the only one to not know great talent when it smacks them in the face.

Danny was and still is, a Great Talent.

    Eddie...eh...not so much.

  • @chaoscleaner I'm glad you've taken the time out to forgive me, like I really give a shit.

  • @SatchmoSings You're welcome. I'm glad I could be of help. lol

  • I got aquainted with Danny Kaye watching the movie "The Court Jester" (in German "Der Hofnarr") more than fifty years ago, and I think that I saw most of his wonderful movies. I love him, and I know, that the British Queen Elizabeth does also.

    What a great comedian!!!

YouTube doesn't allow rating with stars, but I leave

    ★★★★★

    Froehliche Gruesse aus Tirol

    ;-)

  • :)))))))))))

  • I love Danny ... RIP champ ...

  • remarkable. out of this world! i laughed till i cried.

  • When was that filmed .....

  • @colintraveller i believe it was filmed in 1981.

  • Such a Wonderful Man and Talent who I still miss!

  • Sadly miss brilliant actor, comedian, musician.

  • 2:12 made me laugh so hard. "Son of a b****" to the trumpeter.

  • he was the funnist man and still his we sulet his daughter for having such a great father and great humanitarian he miss and love him dearly

  • Who's the trumpeter? :p

  • @1violaplayr The trumpeter is Philip Smith one of the top orchestral trumpet players, he did this joke with an incredible professionalism!!! lol

  • They would never do a show like this on TV anymore because Hollywood and network television now completely neglect classical music. Not the case back in Danny Kaye's day and before. Our loss. As The magnificent clown Kaye shows, it isn't stuffy and elitist.

  • he says

    "please let's have a baby"

  • Oh, thanks for explaining ;-)

  • By the way, are there any lip-readers out there ? Who can interpret what Danny said at 3:08 (which presumably was something like "..., BABY !") which made him break up into laugh ? I'm so curious :-P

  • There will never be anybody like Danny who could lighten up the whole world by just a smile or a boyish glance.

I always watch this concert with special gratitude because it occured to me once that this is actually the ONLY way for us who never saw him perform live (and it is there that he was at his best, like his triumph at the London Palladium back in 1948) to see how gracefully he held the audience in the palm of his hand and what an amazing personal charisma he had. Thanks for sharing :)

  • I keep watching these and he is just so hysterical - what an adorable human being. Thanks again

  • I love him he is so funny

  • Comment removed

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i love danny kaye! he's crazy hilarious!!! i played in a wind ensemble and i can say that the faces he made were SOOO TRUUUUE!! haha i love this :)

  • I just adore this man. He's so endearing.

  • danny kaye looks like Roman Polanski

  • @getoutofmyway01 Ought to be the other way around, doesn't it? Roman looks like Danny.

  • yes! Danny was here first..

  • There's something exceedingly charming about this man. Impish quality.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHA...hilarious! I LOVE IT...

perhaps because I'm a conductor, i found this most amusing, tank you soo much for posting, i love it! :D

  • Is he roman polanski's real father, by the way? They look so much alike! A fantastic artist anyway, I loved his work, growing up. Thanx for posting!

  • Luv this alot !!!

  • I Love Danny Kaye! Thanks for posting this, do you know what year this was?

  • 1981

  • 23rd Septembe 1981 to be exact....

  • Great video! :)

  • cazzata criminale!!

  • Ma criminale de che?

E' stata una cosa comica. Io mi sono visto tutta la serata su youtube, tutte e 17 le parti.

Io ti consiglio di vedere, cercando "An Evening with Danny Kaye".

    Risate assicurate ;)

  • It's so funny!!! Wow!!!!

  • I am from India and I was born in 77 - Now I am in states and citizen of this grate nation - I have seen many artists come and go - but non parelle to Danny Kay. The Best Ever... We have one artist like that in India (should say we had one - He passed away in 87) name Kishore Kumar... Actor, Direcotr, Singer, Producer, Wirter, Composer and the bes Singer YET (in Indian Film Industry).

  • One of the greatest actors all time!

  • I DO LOVE Danny Kaye! Yep! He's got the faces down pat! I bet I could add a few more! hahaha! Once when performing (I'm a violist) the conductor (I won't embarrass him here!) actually threw his baton at the cymbalist!!!! It was so funny I almost fell off my chair...and I wasn't the only one!

  • Too funny for words! I was born into a musical family and this makes me laugh so hard that I cry--Danny did his homework well and some of the faces and remarks made are some that I remember seeing--and hearing about--from other musicians.

RIP Danny and thank you for making us laugh; you were truly gifted.

  • Danny, for me, was one of the best actors there ever where. I just love him!

  • Why do you say that?

  • this is the best video i've seen on youtube.... really great... better than paolo francisco xD

  • süper thanks

    from turkey

  • what year was this?

  • Danny Kaye was AMAZING!

  • I remember watching the live broadcast of this on WNET, and this then-young trumpet player laughed so hard he nearly choked. This was a hilarious special.

  • I play the sax and was asked to play the national anthem at a ball game after already playing it at a ball game before. I messed up the second time and if you have never heard someone mess up the national anthem before a large group of people, it is a horrible site.

So, with this experience occurring not too long ago, I laughed non-stop for several minutes. I have never laughed so hard and anything in my entire life. That is exactly what you begin to think as you realize you just ruined it!

  • I am glad so many of you enjoyed this video. Danny Kaye was indeed one of the rare talents of his time.

Phil Smith's performance was absolutely amazing. I wish I had the opportunity to catch that in person.

  • @hanyong89 - If you posted this, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Three regrets I have: Did not go see Richard Burton in LA playing King Arthur in Camelot - then he died; did not go see Yul Brenner in The King & I - then he died; and did NOT go see Danny Kaye conduct the LA Philharmonic Symphony and then HE died - (sigh...)

  • This always cracks me up! I've played in a band since I was 11, and therefore have always seen the conductors face. I play this and within 2 minutes, I am laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes. My husband and kids thought it was hysterical the first time they saw it. They came running because I never laugh like that, and knew they must be missing something good.

  • A pleurer de rire !

  • Not only he was a great comedian, but also a great musician and an incredibly charismatic person. It's almost 22 years since he passed away and he's still deeply missed.

  • haha phil smith at his best!

  • HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! THIS IS SOOOOO FUNNY!!!! absolute class. very talented as well.

  • I cant form the words to express how much I miss him.

  • I miss Danny Kaye. Thanks for posting this.

I showed this to my Dad and he was laughing so hard he was crying by the time it finished!

    Rest In Peace Danny Kaye

    Absolutely hilarious.

  • Aida is GREAT!

  • Danny Kaye=GENIUS! He's my all-time favorite actor...

  • I will always be a through and through Danny Kaye fan! I love his comedies.

    Especially "Court Jester"!!

  • Unfortunately I don't have any material from this man and therefor using youtube in order to see him performing and I really want to ask all people who have movies or so and see themselves fit to do, add it to youtube so we can all enjoy.Thank you. For the man who says to have the entire movie of this particular scene...Isn't it possible to get a double for me, please? Thank you and for now ...ENJOY!!!

  • Danny Kaye truly is a FANTASTIC man!Though I was still a young child I really loved his movies (specially "The Inspector General" -1949-)After so many years I can still too remember where I was and what the environment looked like when we, in Belgium, got to know that this great man had passed away.Let me tell you this...I was very sad, because this man made me to laugh like nobody else.

  • Suuuuuper!!!...)))))

  • Omg hilarious! I love Danny Kaye, he's amazing. :o)

  • He was an AMAZING singer. I still have the Goodyear Christmas volume 5 from the early 60's and to this day my favorite song is Danny's Oh Come All Ye Faithful. A beautiful song by an extremely talented performer.

  • the last of a true talent.....

  • not the last. just the most well known...

  • Hey guys! Its awesome! And I have the whole perfomance on VHS tape. My father recorded from TV many years ago. I'm hungarian. (Budapest) (NOT TURKEY!!!;) )

  • hilarious. what a talent danny kaye was.

  • do you know if you have the whole concert of Danny Kaye Conducting the New YORK Philharmonic

  • i remember this! can you post it all? id love to see this

  • just awsome!!! Joan

  • During his late years, Danny Kaye was engaged to help in fund raising for orchestra. I miss him.

  • :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • Danny Kaye was an excellent comedian/actor.

  • I loved this performance. What truly astounded me towards the end of the performance is when Kaye revealed that he was musically illiterate. He could not read a single note yet he was such an accomplished entertainer in so many musicals on stage and on screen. Truly an astounding performer.

  • do you have any idea where i can get the whole video? I´m writing from germany, its not able to find it here in Europe.

  • Sorry, I don't really know..

  • HAHA!

  • fabulous - I suppose some people just don't have a sense of humour, not to be able to appreciate this! Do you have the rest of the concert too? I remember him conducting Bolero (Ravel) too, or maybe this was a different occasion?

  • sorry dude. i only got this video.. my friend sent me this a while back.

  • You're entitled to your own opinion, but exactly how is it an abomination? Do you know *anything* about Danny Kaye and what kind of entertainer he was? Do you know *anything* about the entire performance with the NY Phil from which this segment was taken? And most importantly, do you have *any* sense of humor?

  • Lol. Actually, immediately after watching this video I looked Danny Kaye up and got a bit of perspective to the whole thing...

So all I can say is...FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE!

  • Fair enough. :)
