  • 8 people agreed with ChiuaruStefan

  • is that disstort the only effect you know? god its fking annoying I shut it off after 2 mins, the idea might be interesting but the editing is really bad.

  • A fantastic and very current presentation of prose of gaming. I hope it will enliven my students passion for writing through IF.

  • For anyone interested in games being reviewed on their narratives or artistic expression, check out my channel.

  • i love the attitude of the writer of assassins creed 2.......he's very honest and moreover he says everyone's fav. uc2 :D

  • bad sync?

  • They showed some old school stuff, and then some current gen stuff. They came out and said that there was a story drought in the 90s, and while games with good stories were a bit of a rarity in PS/PS2 eras, RPGS and games like MGS, Silent Hill, Indigo Prophecy, need to be mentioned.

  • Oh jesus, you didn't need to flash special effects every five seceonds. I don't have ADD.

  • Annoying visual effects. Dislike.

  • I think its safe to say that God gave us video games. <3

  • HEAVY RAIN

  • Go Scott Steinberg! This is my favorite vid of the series. These guys know what they're talking about.

  • i think we all agree that EA's scriptwriters are terrible...

  • @Aelkamal So you are saying that Bioware writers are terrible.... right......

  • @westcoastkiller13 well, since they took over, look what happened with the supposed RPG games of Bioware: Mass Effect 2 was turned into a less RPG'esque game, and more action oriented, and casual friendly kind of game, while the combat system of Dragon Age 2 was completely dumbed down to 1 character, human (no choice), and with the same concept of fighting a bunch of minions/grunts then a mini boss, then the same with other characters so....right.

  • @Aelkamal I thoroughly enjoyed Mass Effect 2 and there is nothing wrong with it being casual friendly, i played it on insanity and it was quite challenging as a game. Also the PC version of Dragon Age from what i have experienced from the demo is almost the same, apart from the part that the animations particularly the mages is much better and more fluid. Also 1 character yeah but customisable and with a voice over. And you can choose sex and class so....right

  • @westcoastkiller13 each one with his own opinion, but i believe that we're being dragged into a minimalistic gaming industry.

  • The Escapist led me here! i'll just say 1 thing: Make SCRAPLAND 2 !

  • Someone needs to take their Ritalin.

  • This is a great primer on the emerging narrative sophistication of games and interactive media.

But Jesus God the effects are annoying.

  • @filmjnr My thoughts exactly.

  • i ripped the audio and listened to it that way while waiting for the busy; viola' no more editing complaints!

  • @NasaCortis i meant waiting for the bus

  • Good, but way too fast. SLOW DOWN YOUR EDITING!!! what is the point of flying through all the content without having time to process it. The show is good but the artificial 10min time limit is holding it back. Slow down and i reckon you might have a good show on your hands!!!

  • hahaha, "this is a kind and gentle person who kills kittens" bit of an oxymoron isn't it?

  • A docu on story telling without Half Life 2....but with Just Cause 2....

I'm confused, also we're not 5, we came here to watch a docu, not have a seizure watching your editing.

  • most annoying editing ever

  • that thing is the best thing that heppand to gaming since the start of the 3D (not the glass thing, the graphic) . a team of wonderful thinking people just take a step back and wonder about the bigger pictre, and still stay relevant. amzing.

  • Programme about storytelling... told in a shitty manner. My head hurts from overload of crappy sound and video effects used in this video. And what's with the flipping of the video? What was the person making this thinking?!

  • WHAT. THE. FUCK. is up with all of the god damned transitions? In the middle of a freakin sentence for cripssake! It was a interesting topic done in by a REALLY SHITTY medium.

  • Agree with the other comments. The video is very informative, but the weird background music and zippy effects editing detract from the message.

  • I know why AC2 ending was a brainfuck, the writer is a stoner!

  • Metroid Prime did it before BioShock. Everyone seems to ignore that.

  • @austinthebookworm5 Except Metroid Prime's story isn't nearly as interesting as Bioshock, nor is it as integral to the experience

  • @Shaanyboi

good point, good point, but I meant the storytelling method, not the actual story

  • @austinthebookworm5 Again though... Bioshock pushed it far further. You would find a charred corpse, and then a tape hearing how he died. It was infinitely more effective because you're hearing the people who are in the middle of the chaos, and on top of that, you aren't pausing the gameplay to read all this text, scanning anything in the environment. There wasn't emotional engagement in Metroid Prime. It was kinda creepy and cool, and props to Retro, but it's just not as powerful.

  • @Shaanyboi

yeah I just played BioShock, so I now see what you're saying. I now see why you are right, and my comment was stupid. BioShock is indeed a storytelling masterpiece, my friend.

  • @austinthebookworm5 Did what?

  • @dreofthedead

Progressing the story through atmosphere & logs

  • 999

  • Speaking of finding possible connections between events, we cannot forget about Portal.

I also like The Witcher for its story and the way you can influence it.

  • No mention of critically panned games with amazing stories and cult followings.

    Alpha Protocol. Deadly Premonition.

  • @VarDolzeberg

umm... I didn't know they had amazing stories or cult followings... I just thought they were "so bad it's good"

  • Yeah, oh my lord, if the whole point of this is a serious look at games, maybe slow down with the crazy motion graphics and horrible, *horrible* music.

  • I must agree with my roommate, flipping the picture vertically all the time is really disturbing.

  • i love the show, but please tone down the visual and sound fx.

  • @thany83

    noted. Thanks!

  • @thany83

    noted, thanks!

  • @thany83 yes please it's unwatchable

  • Wait they showed Just Cause 2 in this video about storytelling? xD

  • @jameskond I think they could've chosen a better time to show it, but I think it's an example of where your general around-fuckery can result in a 'story' you tell your friends. GTA has a similar element.

Still, I do think that sort of thing is overemphasized because I don't think a game should be allowed to be reliant on that sort of thing. It makes it too easy to make excuses when things are a bit shit...

  • @jameskond Was thinking the same, JC2 is of one the worst pieces of garbage storytelling wise (though at the same time, one of the finest examples of gameplay and open world design)
