fine, talk big about your soloing. lets hear you play something. you called me out on my opinion. i respect jimmy page too much to see covers of him. i dont give a crap what you think of my playing, you seem like a very unintelligent tasteless kid.
Why is everyone poo-pooing on this guy for deviating? Stairway to Heaven is such an overplayed song that it would have been cliche to follow the solo note for note. And for the record, go look up Zep's Stairway performance in "The Song Remains the Same", Page plays a completely different solo than from the recorded version of the song. Honestly, I hate it when fanboys treat their favorite band's music as infallible Gospel.
Jesus Christ people. This man had the right idea! Page would have been happy with it. Why? Because he improvised the solo. Why on Earth does everything have to be exactly like the original when the original is always changing? If you were a true Zeppelin fan, you'd know that their music never stayed "original". It always evolved into something more. More licks in the solo's, more notes bent by the vocalist. Heavier drumming, more fills, more bass fills. Never stays the same :)
@Anthaleus I am so glad he improvised! I hate hearing people who just play the recording!! If your going to play it Add your own twist!!! Like really!!!
@Anthaleus i always love when ideas come from ideas, u must know where im coming from this because y would u want to hear a cover, that sounds the same? i wanna hear what every guitarist has to bring to the table.
@Anthaleus Ahh yeh, although its nice to improvise (and it shows you have talent if you can) but somtimes its nice to hear the proper version. Bt that rule only sticks if the the guitar player knows how to improvise around the song and yet still make it sound GOOD, which is excactly what we see here :)
@Anthaleus That would be because the album solo is arguably the greatest solo ever played. Yes Page improvised and his live solos and they were terribly self indulgent. But, this guy aint Page...
The thing I don't like about this guy is that he uses rack effects!!!! I've seen him live.. and yeah he's good......but his tone and over use of meaningless effects bothers me.
ive seen this band play live and they seriously kick ass, the singer isnt amazingly good but comon its hard to sound like robert plant and i dont understand why people are bitching about nick improvising this solo, jimmy page improvised pretty much every time he played this live but is any1 complaining about that? no. so you haters can just shut the fuck up, assholes
the solo is good, BUT, the sound and the solo has nothing to do with Jimmy Page and Stairway To Heaven, so, please, re-title the video "my own solo" and I'll give you 5 stars, but for now, 3 stars, good bye
Great cover. I've seen Whole Lotta Led a few times. Although Nick's sound is quite high gain, I think it a true enough respresentation. It still has the spirit of that epic solo.
Anyways, I bet Nick has played this solo thousands of times. Wouldn't it get boring if he just stuck to the studio solo?! I bet it would!!
improvising is great and I don't think I heard one out of line note. But a solo this great should be played as it is in the record. It's so great....but don't get me wrong here, you played great! And I can't play the solo yet, so it's better than me either way. Good video!
I have to disagree with ya, dude. I think Pagey would too as he NEVER played any of his solos the same way twice........Like Randy Rhodes for instance
your right, and they are both good live too. personally i just dont like this song improvised all that much, it's still great though, don't get me wrong
Yeah I know what you mean. I think it's awesome when people try and improvise over this though, as long as they kinda stick with the studio solo and work around that.
Believe me, I do understand and respect improvising. There is a time and place for it though. IF you are the original artist, in this case Jimmy Page, then most fans would love to hear what else you can do with your songs, but I would think fans going to see a tribute band would be expecting to hear what Jimmy played on the original recording, not some unknown guitarist's egotistical rendition.
i dont care if someone inprovises on a solo like this guy does. sometimes it turns out good and sometimes bad. in this case bad lol.if they changes the structure of the song or something to me thatd then be crossing the line and kinda violating the rules of making a cover.
This is a tribute band, I take it? Then why, even though mine is not yet perfect, can I play that solo so much better than this guy? I mean, good playing, but the second half of it was basically unrecognizable as STH.
lol you really dont get it, why should everyone play the solo like everyone else? hes playing it in a correct key so its not really wrong and he makes his own version of the solo to give the audience something more than what has been heard over and over again on the the radio
fuck all that! have any off you seen the new Foo Fighters DVD?Page had it and undoubtably WAS the one of the greatest guitarists ever, now he seems to have lost it which is a bit of a shame. Slash came out in the 80's and brought back the gritty old rock n roll guitar playing into the whole gay hair metal scene.
nah hes not, ive tried to exlpain tis before but it came out wrong so i hope u understand. slash isnt really famous for his guitar playing hes famous for his image and people are like yeah slash is intense cos they havnt herd that many other guitarist its just cos slash is probs the most reconised guitar player since hendrix so altho he has alot more fans than his guitar playing is worthey he hasnt got those fans cos of his guitar playing, if u get me.
slash has never influenced page as his greatest influence...ever...ever...never... he has never said that. way more influenced by joe perry and humble pie. Alice cooper!
u got a very nice point there!i think its because slash represent an newer era where teenagers have no idea of what is called pure classic rock and where this came from.
Slash was completly inspired by Jimmy page, and lists Jimmy as the biggest influence in his life. Thus, he would be nothing without Jimmy. Even if you think they are really close or equal in talent, without Jimmy, slash wouldn't be anything. Thus, Jimmy is better.
Thats like saying that because Yngwie Malmsteen was influenced by ritchie blackmore that blackmore is better than mamlmsteen........ which is just not true
Right, but the influence by jimmy page on slash is so evident. Slash plays like jimmy page, great rifts, nice solos, he uses a similar guitar similar style of music, he is basically a jimmy page of the late 80s, doing noting really that amazing. Jimmy page did so much and was so talented all around. Slash never was a acoustic player, while jimmy had extradinary talent. Ok maybe if he was influnced that doesn't mean the influnece is better but page is way better overall.
What's this commetn all about! It's nicely played. It's not the Olpympic games of guitarhero's. There will always be someone who's better than another.
no, you're thinking of page, slash copied his look and style, and if you're looking for emotion, check out Eric Clapton, he puts tons of emotion in his playing. BTW, so does page, and don't thumbs down this dude, he's paying homage to one of the guitar greats. go play some guitar hero 3 or something GN'R fanboy.
But Slash plays on feeling alone seeing as he can't read music and has virtually no technical knowledge of music... And I play real guitar not guitar hero.
i play guitar too. but i'm tired of people thinking slash is better than page or clapton, and clapton lives on feeling from the guitar too, and you can actually see his face showing emotion while he plays a blistering solo.
what really makes people like jimmy page and slash and angus young good was there ability to write solos, not just playing them because these days theres crazy guitarists that can play things much harder than what these guys could but it doesnt mean they could make there own stuff, But herman li is amazing
yup studio trickery. he sucks defintly. plus dragonforce as a whole since every song sounds the same. and wow the lyrics "so far away... this and that" i could write a dragonforce song right now. "soo far away we fight a demon in the day. soo far away we were just fighiting a demon in the day the last line!"
a great guitar player if you ask me. ERIC JOHNSON! yngwie malmsteen is great and all... but idk. something about him lacks soul... still good though
Great guitarist and a really coool dude. I am in awe :-)

What's this commetn all about! It's nicely played. It's not the Olpympic games of guitarhero's. There will always be someone who's better than another.

theres a slight chance that he has more guitar skills than slash but slash wins because he has more soul and puts more feel into his playing

This comment has received too many negative votes show
why thumbs down this? slash puts more feeling into his playing than virtually any other guitarist ever has

you are mad

possibly but i'll think you'll find theres plenty of people that share the same viewpoint
benjaste 3 years ago
no, you're thinking of page, slash copied his look and style, and if you're looking for emotion, check out Eric Clapton, he puts tons of emotion in his playing. BTW, so does page, and don't thumbs down this dude, he's paying homage to one of the guitar greats. go play some guitar hero 3 or something GN'R fanboy.
fenderpwnage 3 years ago
But Slash plays on feeling alone seeing as he can't read music and has virtually no technical knowledge of music... And I play real guitar not guitar hero.
benjaste 3 years ago
i play guitar too. but i'm tired of people thinking slash is better than page or clapton, and clapton lives on feeling from the guitar too, and you can actually see his face showing emotion while he plays a blistering solo.
fenderpwnage 3 years ago
woah i didn't say slash was better... i just didnt think it right that the other dude got thumbs down for his oppinion
benjaste 3 years ago
oh, well, we all have our opinions don't we?

what really makes people like jimmy page and slash and angus young good was there ability to write solos, not just playing them because these days theres crazy guitarists that can play things much harder than what these guys could but it doesnt mean they could make there own stuff, But herman li is amazing

herman li???
KILL URSELF
malmsteen will murdur herman anydar of the fuckin year!!!!!!!
herman is garbage!!!! its all effects
waashappening1993 3 years ago
angus young didnt write his solos
icyfire011 3 years ago
yes he did, he used blues panatonic scales to do so, Malcolm even helped make them
XGuitarEliteX 3 years ago
yup studio trickery. he sucks defintly. plus dragonforce as a whole since every song sounds the same. and wow the lyrics "so far away... this and that" i could write a dragonforce song right now. "soo far away we fight a demon in the day. soo far away we were just fighiting a demon in the day the last line!"
a great guitar player if you ask me. ERIC JOHNSON! yngwie malmsteen is great and all... but idk. something about him lacks soul... still good though
trailerwolf 3 years ago
ok...he did the solo wrong and he looks like brad whitford ein the beginning
peligrojandro95 3 years ago
that hair is as close to the 70s as possible! AAA+++
py1013 3 years ago
to be honest this solo is only good if you play it the same as the original, im all for improv and messing round but some solos cant be changed
