I have almost the same problem. My screen freezes and it nothing i can do. one time it stop and it came a sort of a zebra stripes on my screen. i have send a mail to Apple and they say they can fix it for free !

this probably won't happen with newer models as apple should have fixed the problem by now

apple doesnt fix problems. they leave them to get more money from more people. if that were the case, they would have warranty coverage for the fragile GLASS screen on iphone. WHO THE FUCK PUTS GLASS ON ANYTHING PORTABLE!

to anyone whose confused bout this....apple is a brand witch produces computer and software like the mac os...where else microsoft produces software (excluding 360)..PC is produced by several competing manufactures like sony,ibm,hp,compaq,acer...ect.­...hope it helps...

i have got the same problem. i play games and randomly, my screen goes black, my computer freezes and i have a sound loop for about 5 seconds....that really annoys me...

also hey, if it's still screwing up with you HALLER YOU SHOULD HAVE IT EXCHANGED!! that's why u paid that much for it, coz most of it goes to their customer service. i had mine exchanged for a new just just after a month coz my very first one started going ape shit on me and when i went to the mac centre they "diagnosed" THREE faults in it. one of which was the main motherboard itself sheesh. i got a lemon unit! so i called singapore mac and they sent me a new one after a week.

(thats if you got the 15" one). i just bought mine 3 months ago, new macbook pro 15"m and for some reason it takes 5 hours to charge and only lasts 3 hours. is that normal?? People please! NVIDIA is the greatest video and graphics card makers in the world so far. So, if its not NVIDIA your favorite graphic card is because you really know nothing about computers or gaming. What graphic card is used in the Xbox 360 and Play Station 3? Besides the Mac computers are made for productivity more than gaming. Actually they have a program to run your favorite windows so u can play your favorite game. The 2009 MacBook Pro is really a great piece of engineering

i got a dell xps m1710 and the card failed too. so yes NVIDIA is costing me a lot of money. oh btw xbox 360s fail too cuz of heating the card on the board. my ps3 is still running strong thank god. but my laptop is shitt cuz of the faulty Nvidia chip.

apple also has this thing called apple care which extends your warranty... it's a bit expensive but it's worth it. the Macbook Pro's Apple Care plan is like 300 US dollars... but again, it's worth it

that is the aluminium one and no you dont have to force restart you can easily force quit the program using terminal but im guessing you couldn't access it because the whole computer was unresponsive then at that point you would have to force restart... oh well good luck with that

don't worry, this is a nvidia problem. the drivers nvidia developed for apple were not very stable :o

this happened to my friend who was like "OMG APPLE SUCKS", but when he took it to the genius bar, they installed the driver updates and assured him it wouldn't happen again. so far, its been fine.

yeah... but I read just a few minutes ago that some of the 17" mbp's have a falty 9600 nvidia chip... the screen gets like a pop-art picture, with purple dots everywhere...

but I think those things are just bad luck (from who happens to buy a falty one, since there's not much of them...)

If you downloaded the Software upgrade 10.5.6 that could be the reason. Im holding off until I get the ok that its safe... Your not alone a lot of others have reported this, and worse happening to there new MacBooks.
