This song wasn't originally by Johnny Young -- it was done by the Strangeloves in the USA, who, coincidentally, pretended to be Australian! But this is a great version, despite the creepiness of the guy.
Listen to the first few chords of the The Kills 'Cheap and Cheerful' . They sound just like the first chords of this great song. Wonder if Johnny Young knows about it?
I heard the announcer of the 2010 Aria awards saying that this song was actually the second top selling single of the 1960s in Oz. I always put older songs in the context of their times...gr8 shindig!
Saw Johnny with Ray Brown and the Whispers, Tony Barber and Glen Ingram(the singing butcher from Willagee, he had that Skye Boat Song) at the Pagoda a few years back, just awesome! I thought Johnny would have been at Long Way To The Top! Listen to him every morn on 6IX, a real Gentleman!
Johnny Young is our Compere each year at RockStock-Helidon Music Festival and Car Show - and he is THE GREATEST!
He entertains and delights an audience of 3 generations - like nobody else possibly could.
He is a fantastic embassador for Australian Music and for his contribution towards the development and encouragement of our young talent. We just love him! He is a true entertainer/performer.
Great footage of a superbly talented artist whose singing was only one part of his contribution to music.
Johnnny Young wrote numerous hit records (many of which hit No. 1) including - for Russell Morris - The Real Thing; The Girl That I Love; Part 3 Into Paper Walls. Plus - for Ross D Wyllie - The Star and for Lionel Rose - I Thank You.
He was also a highly rated TV host, who got lots of young kids started. There was Young Talent Time; also The Go!! Show. Now he's a DJ. Fantastic!
As well as being a great good looking pop performer, Johnny also found time to be a radio announcer, tv compere and make personal appearances. And today whats he doing? He's a radio announcer,tv host and still makes personal appearances..you cant keep a good man down!!

Wonder if this guy`s been over to the Philipines since his arrest there in the early 90s for suspicious behavior.

Great comments, Rockstockmum. Johnny Young should be awarded an Order of Australia for his contribution to entertainment in Australia eg:
1. probably Australia's longest running and best talent show (Young Talent Time) plus The Go Show
2. a string of hits
3. wrote about 5 No 1's plus other hits
4. helped Lionel Rose get a No. 1 hit when indigenous Australians were not getting much support in the 1960's
5. successful DJ career
6. still a successful performer and much loved entertainer

No, the title is right! This song was originally recorded by The Strangeloves, a U.S. group who strangely enough pretended to be Australian.

whilst bands here like 'The Twilights' were playing with Union Jacks on their drum kits trying to be British! Go figure
