  • I remember watching this on UK C4 late 1990. 'Rock Steady' .. It introduced me to EC blues. Memories... & thanks!

  • ya, thats robert cray...... he looks like a teenager

  • ya, thats robert cray on bass........

  • @KeepAwake1914 no thats not robert cray on the bass. Buddy Guy does a solo, then Robert does a solo afterwards.

  • @KeepAwake1914 er dont think so mate

  • excellent video clapton, guy, cray do well together and like the more blues swing style

  • youtube.com/watch?v=6S1gGyB1_8A Frisco Jammers did it

Mike Wilhelm & me playing harp in my sleep 4 a Hyde St. Studios 1985

  • who is the other guitarrist ? (not buddy guy,the other)

  • @mmacula He is Robert Cray!!!!

  • i heard that eric had the name derek used with the dominoes becuase he did not want to be fronted and egotistical, but rather just play the blues.

  • @GutiarAce No, Clapton and his fellow band-mates decided to keep the name "Derek and The Dominos" after a mispelling of the speaker at one of their first live concerts. The original name in fact should have been "Erik and The Dynamos". That's funny.

  • @dcav6892 i heard from a radio dj the story that he didnt want to be fronted. good to know! thanks

  • A great session with Buddy Guy and Robert Cray.

  • pity the tit head editor doesnt know whos giutar solo it is.

  • @monkwhitley why is it they don't get this kind of stuff right? They can film but don't know jack about what they're filming.

  • Go Buddy, go!

  • eric , then robert 2.45 something is amiss, something happened with the switch ,sound man was more than likely cursred severely, then fired for good

  • Clapton & Derek & the Dominos long version of "Key to the Highway is in my opinion the greatest jam of alltime.

  • Clapton is Derek. He took on Eric later.

  • I know that LOL... But thanks!

  • ??? He was born Eric Patrick Clapton.

  • I should have said "he was Dereck with the Dominos and went back to Eric later. " Sorry for any confusion. But, I've found quite a few don't realize they are one and the same.

  • Clapton is Derek, but it was never his real name. It was a mispronunciation at a concert and he kept it. Sort of a tongue-in-cheek band name

  • It is a great jam session because thats what it was, it wasn't ment to be recorded

Clapton was just jaming with Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers Band when they played this song.

They didin't know they were being recorded.

  • big boy on that pieanny wants to run ,he will show em how it g-o goes

  • you make your 2nd million it aint about no passion,mr c. out does these dudes ,,,mr. cray aint in his element ,2nd string aint his deal

  • The original version on the Layla album to me is far better. It's more passionate I guess from what Eric was going through at the time. Duane Allman brought the best out of Eric in that earlier version more so than Guy and Cray. Eric looks and sounds like he's just going through the motions. I didn't feel it.

  • I agree, he sounded more "tortured" back then, he had a lot of demons.

  • also I think the guys were just warming up I think? I'm not 100% about that though

  • couldnt agree more. duane = god.

  • i've seen Buddy Guy get the best out of Eric Clapton..

  • Johnnie Johnson looks at Eric like "wtf just happened to my mic?"

  • LOOKS LIKE BUDDY GUY IN THE BLUE!!!!

  • The line up is: Eric, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray-guitars, Robert Cousins-bass, Johnnie Johnson-piano, Jamie Oldaker-drums.

  • LOL,No, I'm not one of the Dominos! Tom's son was my best friend at one time and I came to know Tom over a number of years. He was a truly unique individual. Many people don't realize how prolific he was at making history in the music world time and time again. I think he was the greatest engineer/producer in the 20th century. Google his name and take a look at who and what he recorded over the years. It's absolutely astounding to see how he shaped music for 50 plus years. I miss him greatly...

  • Well what's his name? Not Tom Dowd, right?

  • No, it's not Tom. He's not in the music business and he would prefer that I don't mention anything about him...

  • Actually this show was on Sunday,Feb.3,1990. I was at the show and it was great. This was the 1st number of the night and they weren't warmed up yet. It got real hot later on. Buddy got silly w/the audience and "Rose", Eric's grandmum. I got my tickets through a friend, Tom Dowd. As the lights went down, David Gilmour quietly took the empty seat on my left.(I didn't realize it was him 'till the show's end when the lights came on in the Hall.) Eric's really "refined" here.(playing,clothes,etc.)

  • Tom Dowd? Are you one of the Dominos?!

  • Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and Eric, must have been a great concert

  • Cool version. Almost just as good as the version of the Layla sessions.
