  • Wonderful - !

  • I think I found my new piano teacher. I've always wanted to play in 5 and this is just what I needed to help me. I think I must be too hip now cause everyone tells me I'm playing in 4 still

  • OMG this is hilarious!

  • Genius!!!!

  • why doesn't he just delete this!?!?!

  • And it swings too :)))

  • Loved it!

    1-2-3-5 :))

  • It would do more good to musicians, for you to not teach. I can't however bash you if you're just trying to get views. I watched this like five times because it was so funny.

  • Summary of this video:

    Step 1 - play in 4/4

Step 2 - start counting to five

Step 3 - lose the beat completely

And that's how you play in 5/4 time.

  • @BrighamHB ahahaahahah exactely!! can't stop laughing after reading your comment!

  • Loads of credit! Had myself and other pro musos in stitches. Great ploy on how to get loads of links - and it was probably MORE difficult to count that over 4 than actually playing in 5/4 ! Can't wait for "how to play in 4/4".

  • "Bio: Austin McBride has been doing Break Dancing for 4 years, featuring himself in about 6 clubs. He says break dancing is great for exercise and to impress friends."

    haha what?

  • It was a decent enough explanation, but he played 4/4 and missed the fifth beat off when he was counting... I'm sorry but what the hell EV - get it sorted.

  • All these comments have obviously been made by non-musicians. That was actually a good explanation and demonstration.

  • @tathagata40 Man, are you serious this guy is playing some pattern in 4/4 counting 5/4 with an effort. LOL, that's the funniest thing I've seen today.

  • Now do 7/4. That's a good time signature.

  • just count 1,2,3,4,5 as you listen to this song /watch?v=EsCyC1dZiN8 BTW 5/4 means 5 quarter notes per measure - simple

  • now i understand!

  • I'm mad that you exist

  • I just count "1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1". That way, like Austin McBride, I am never wrong.

  • ha.... ha.... nope can't hold it in any longer..... hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! ...I'd love to jam with this guy!! 2345!!! ....good luck with it tho! =S xx

  • HOW ARE YOU COUNTING

  • every village has one!1234,5234,5234,4 er 5 still cant get it.

  • so much fail in one video, I can't understand it

  • That actually could be in 5, with odd groupings. Some jazz actually sounds like that

  • Very Funny!

  • Genius!

  • AAAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh !!! I Love it man !! Can't stop laughing. You're a great comedian. :)

  • This is my favorite video on Youtube! Lol

  • Vegeta--What does the scouter say about his time signature??

  • what the?

  • This has got to be a joke. Has to be. I hope.

  • It's sort of like the joke about someone conducting in 7: "one - two - three - four - five - six - sev - en."

  • Oh yeah. I get it. Now I must practice... THIS SHIT.

  • WTH? HAHAHAHA!

  • Not very good at recognising are you?

  • 2-3-4-5, 2-3-4-5

  • Trollvillage. They're aiming to be the biggest troll on YouTube... And they're not that far from succeeding.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOL expert village please watch the videos before posting them on the internet and poisoning the eyes of children

  • Hmm... Can you Break Dance in 5/4 as well as you can play in 5/4.

  • GAYVILLAGE

  • STOP POLLUTING JAZZ

  • If this is expert villiage, imagine how amature villiage would be?

  • LMAO what a geek

  • Not!

  • Okay, that.... is..... awful.

  • Seriously??? Is he really this stupid?? First of all, this is written in 4/4 and second why is he not counting properly?? He skips beats in his couting...

  • "One two three fo-five, one three four five, two five, two three four five, one two three four (pause) five"

  • uum i think the most popular 5/4 song is mission impossible theme

  • Are we being Punked?

  • Hanazono by Jazzanova sitches between 6/4 and 5/4. <3

  • Nice riff.

  • Austin McBride, you´re my hero!!! This is hilarious!!!

  • Please go back to your music teacher and ask him to clarify further. Check your notes and re-write your song only this time put 4/4 in place of the 5/4 that you have there now. It's cool just keep learning..

  • I think I just learnt how to play 4/4.

  • Austin--this is really funny! You're not serious, are you? If so, time to get a (different) life. Comedy, maybe?

  • anyone really wanna hear a 5/4 or 10/8 or whatever u wanna call it? find greek music or balcan music...anyway....eastern music! music u don't count...just listen....music is sound after all right?

  • Expert Village should remove this video as it is a wrong teaching and also hampers the image of expert village....

  • @shannhoo nono, this is too funny to be taken down!

  • @shannhoo What image?

  • I'm sorry, is it a joke?

  • This guy looks like the kind of person that lives with his mum and isn't aloud out past 4...

  • Comment removed

  • really?

  • Want to actually hear 5/4 time? Search youtube for "take 5".

  • I love the last "three, four, five...", it's like he just realized something

  • "Marvin Flowberg" has another excellent crash course on this.

  • LOL...i look all over the internet to learn some jazz piano and this is what i find! :P ...help me people,please...

  • "expert village" huh?

  • Either genius comedy or deluded incompetence. Either way, I love it!

  • oh crap. you ruined my ears. but yeah, your good at counting.

  • Hahahahahhaha

  • Brilliant! The hours just fly by!

  • 1-2-3-45

    1-3-4-5

    1-2-_-5

    2-3-4-5

    Oh dear. haha

  • @mchorn5 I know right. it is still 4/4 :))

  • 5/4 jajajajajajaajajajajajajajajaajajajaja really?? idiot¡¡¡

  • Guys its all explained, look at the description. He's a breakdancer.

  • lol cant even play in 5/4

  • Poor old 5/4. Totally misrepresented again!

  • This is great - a comedy sketch for musicians! I've never seen anything like it - hey, do one in 7/4 and you could take a comedy show on the road....

Oh wait....you mean ..... this was meant to be serious????

  • the sad thing is expert village put these up to be serious. they make use of complete idiotic amateur musicians who cant teach at all and they are called experts for it. being a musician all my life and watching this is pretty insulting. i like to laugh, and i did at this guy, but seriously - expert village should just stop.

  • So crap its Brilliant. But he should actually play in 5/4. This is misrepresentation!

  • THIS GUY IS SO BAD. DO NOT LEARN FROM HIM. HE DOES NOT PLAY IN 5/4, AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK HE'S TALKING ABOUT. okay i'm stating the obvious here, everybody knows. but whoever this is... who the fuck do you think you are?

  • That's 4/4, not 5/4. Nobody's asked you about polyrhythms (and propably never will).

    P.S.: Dickhead.

  • @Tbannu "propably"? really?

  • Haha, we watched this at college. My class studies music and this made us laugh. His though process behind how to think about 5/4 for is correct but the riff he claimed to be in 5/4 was actually in 4/4. the whole 1 2 3 1 2 or 1 2 1 2 3 thing is a good way to count in 5/4. Anyways good laugh enjoy.

  • what an ass

  • Actually, you guys have all been fooled. His apparent bogus counting is actually the lyrics to this brilliant song in 5/4 that is mostly a 4-beat-hemiola.

  • Comment removed

  • damn some people are thick ^^

and i'm not talking about the guy who made this funny vid, but the people who take it seriously :P

  • LOL !!!

  • ¡¡¡ IDIOTA !!! ESTÚPIDO

  • you play like shit man... and your explanation of the five four is just crap .. and you play it so baaaad !!! .... you seem to be an expert because you speak slowly but you suckx..... 0/20 no groove no time no humility.... nothing but blabla

  • lmao, this is a parody guys.

  • bahahahahahahahaaaaa so messed up

  • Oh dear, i believe you need to double check your 5 side of the Time Signature!

you are basically counting 5 over 4/4 erm.... Badly if you don't mind me saying!

Think about it again and try adding another crotchet on the end and you'll find it will resolve without the confusion.

  • COOL. I bet a lot of peeps don't get this at all?

Get someone to play drums with you too .

  • Too bad Dr. Beat doesn't make house calls.

  • I'm sorry but that is not 5/4 it just a 4/4 rythum with the wrong counting - sorry

  • is everyone on expert village retarded or some shit? i don't think there's a single good video

  • Epic fail

  • fail

  • WTF? 54 likes and 162 Don't likes.... Some people are really dumb

  • 12345 2345 1235 2345 12345 12345 12345 12345

  • Absolute rubbish, laddie!

  • Cracks me up every time... :-) Especially the way he keeps 'counting' till the end, yeahaaa!

  • <<<< if you want to hear 5/4, my band owns it.

  • FUCKING NOOB THAT's NOT 5/4

  • dickbag..... your ears need glasses too, stupid twat!!!!!!!!

  • NOOBVILLAGE

  • Yeah, that was 4/4. I listened to it 3 times and it was still 4/4. I thought I was crazy until I read the other comments.

The first 3 measures of Dream Theater's "Wait for Sleep" are 5/4 if you want a non-jazz example.

  • Actually laughing my ass off right now! This is hilarious!

  • Comment removed

  • You're not playing in 5/4, you're playing in 4/4 and counting 5/4...

  • Um.. that's 4/4 dude. Little confused are we

  • Heheh, they should call it amateur village. I hope he's joking.

  • What a hipster doofus

  • I don't understand where Expertvillage finds these people. I mean, he's probably an okay pianist who just sucks at writing anything complex (he clearly knows how to RECOGNIZE 5/4, just now how to write in it). But he shouldn't be TEACHING, durr. He should have just played Take Five. Expertvillage sucks so badly.

  • Probably the best-known 5/4 riff is the original Mission Impossible theme. Not the dumbed-down U2 version where they dropped a beat to make it more "danceable".

  • C'mon folks... don't those 4 years of break dancing surely makes this chap an expert at Jazz Piano? After all, having spent 4 years of college as a piano performance major, may I suggest that y'all check out my YouTube videos on performing brain surgery! (no doubt ~ 5 out of 4 doctors will agree!)

  • Austin can you please dress up in a clown suit for the rest of the videos you do!

  • is he serious????

  • You're not even counting all the way to 5 when you count out loud you fucking moron!

  • And this is why - you don't take lessons on YouTube folks. Hilarious

  • ughhh

    expert village is a BITCH!!

    UNSUBBING

  • simple measure, 4/4. Complicated Measure 5/4.

  • ok this guy's played wrong, but you guys don't need to insult or belittle him like that.

  • @lalbenatan If he's trying to teach, then we have to point out his shortcomings. I'm sure Mr McBride is a lovely man, but he is clearly not a music teacher. He's got this so wrong that it's actually quite funny.

  • WHAT'S THIS? AH AH AH ! IT'S WEATHER REPORT?

  • Comment removed

  • I have a great trick to play in 7/8 as well:

one - two -three - four - five -six - se -ven

    That should do the job

  • @eltimmo2008 or 1-2-1-2-1-2-3

  • @eltimmo2008

I literally laughed out lough RE your 7/8 advice. Thanks. :)

  • @eltimmo2008 but that has 8 sylables lol.

  • @gogglesntophat ...*stabs.*

  • @TheWinterShow111 i find its better to not count higher than 3 and put the emphasis on 1

    7/8: 1-2_1-2_1-2-3

  • @eltimmo2008 Hilarious comment!!

  • hahaha!...... hahaha!

  • Noobvillage? :-P

  • You aren't playing in 5... You are playing in 4.

  • @01jocooper he caught up at the end lol

  • lol

  • Geez That's amazing! So Awesome!! Fucking brilliant!!! I have no words! Oh wait, I do: Are you serious?!!!?!?

  • thats 4/4

  • hahahahahaha this is so funny, mate. this is 4/4 time. im really sorry, but you cheered me up thouhg xxxxx i have a lot of love haHah xxxx

  • looooll

  • i dont want to sound like i'm putting anyone down and i know i'll get put down for this but thats a 4/4 riff with a guy counting to 5. actually at the start of the piece you can hear him counting in 4/4. honest count along you'll hear it too. later it kinda goes into 5/4 but only cos he skips a beat in his riff and waits for 5 to come round. look up another video cos this is not 5/4. i'm sorry don't hate me. it is a cool 4/4 riff though

  • Don't you guys get it?

    Stop insulting and think.

    He is brilliant

  • Expert MY ASS! The riff you played is clearly in 4/4, NOT 5/4. Good job dumbass...you even made some poor guy fail his piano test because you clearly don't know how to play in 5/4. Clearly this is a testament to the quality videos that "Expert Village" puts out...

  • learn to count, tard.

  • this is like those pictures in Highlights magazine where you have to find out what's wrong with thepicture... like the lamp waay in the back is actually upside down.... only... you know... the lamp in question IS RIGHT IN FRONT.

  • Way to play in 4/4 man.... :P

  • damn wtf :( I studied this video then when I had my test with my piano teacher this morning on 5/4 signature he said I failed what happened? Did I miss something :(

  • the sad thing is that most of the videos on expert village are like this

  • Hilarious

  • Expert: Austin McBride

Bio: Austin McBride has been doing Break Dancing for 4 years, featuring himself in about 6 clubs. He says break dancing is great for exercise and to impress friends

  • is this a joke?! hilarious if it is... very sad if it's not..!

  • oye eso suena a 4/4, no?

  • maten a este maldito cabron!

  • Epic Fail

  • maten a este malditoooooooo cabronn no se merece vivir q dices mazzeite hahah!

  • HAHAHAH this is priceless!

  • What the fuck is this nonsense shit! this guy is no fuckin "expert." He plays most of that stupid lil diddy in 4/4. Someone commented Christian McBride could learn from this guy...............................my god this is not good people.

  • And this is why we have really crappy piano players out there. Good job, McBride - Teaching America's youth how not to count.

    Moron.

  • haha! fail!

  • wow you are an idiot.

  • Austin McBride , you are a genius. I think the jazz bass player Christian McBride could learn from your mastery of odd time signatures !

Can we also have a Break Dancing video please.

  • Tarkus opening ostinato is a REAL example of 5/4

  • "3 + 2 = 5" really? and that song's in 4/4!

  • something else in 5/4: Mars, the bringer of war.

  • buaaahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!

  • I can't understand how he genuinely thinks his example of counting "1234523452345..." is actually right... fucking idiot!

  • This can not be real!!!! it just can't!!!

  • oh god...

  • :D:D:D:D:D hilarious

  • FAIL!!!!

  • ahh the educated.

how they rise above the rest.

    :P READ A BOOK NIGGA!
