  • The best interpretation!!!!! He's a god of cello.

  • Ese es mi compa Rafaél Inclán

  • @felipecaldebronx jajajajaja buena esa!

  • Me encanta como se copa al tocar

  • dude... since when silvester stallone played the cello...

  • KING OF THE CELLO !!!

  • The blonde cellist sitting behind Maisky looks prepared to murder in the beginning.

  • Is it just me or was there a mess up around 5:35?

  • @MrPsychoCellist. You are not alone in your observation. lol but if he did slip that was one hell of a recovery.

  • its fake. bowings and tone are not together all the time. iven the stars do fake there vids to reach fuc..ing cd quality. why ? it would be even greater to go on for the big goal even if something happens. in life always something happens.

  • Wow! This sounds A LOT like his 8th string quartet!!!

  • @iLuvTofu20 it uses many themes from it, yes. but it sounds a bit different with the cello instead of violins!

  • @iLuvTofu20 He quotes the cello concerto motif (which comes from his DSCH motif that is all over the 8th quartet and lots of his other music) in the 3rd mvt of the 8th quartet.

  • CAN'T TEACH GENIUS...

  • This sounds like the 8th string quartet..

  • very nice;)

  • Loved his playing!!! It's amazing!!! And the woman playing the horn,,,, she's incredible!!

  • Wow stunning interpretation! DDS would be proud!

  • This my friends IS ROCK !!!!!

Seriously.... I teach chello, but it's just astonishing how Maisky manages to go mad at the one point and on the other he makes it look easy (especialy the right hand). I'd give my soul to the devil to be able to play like him. Just compare to other solists. I mean .... they're not bad, but for THIS concert Maisky is just .... well .... F**KING GOD !!!!!!

  • What the hell is this clown wearing @ 0:23

  • @whatever7x7 That unfortunate comment yours! Then Dalí was a clown for his mustache and dress ... I want to watch a video where you appear giving you something to do art as Maisky ... I want to watch a video where you appear in the role you of the sad clown who criticizes others who do contribute something to humanity!

  • @whatever7x7 So in your opinion someone is a clown since he dresses an unusual way...seriously, it sucks! So, I'll say you're a clown because you don't play as well as Maisky!

  • @A3cello, yes, clowns dress abnormally long silky pinstriped tails is gay, and i would bet that he is wearing socks made of the same retarded gayness+_+

  • @whatever7x7 He said he wears these clothing for comfort... maybe you have to learn to judge a person by his sound, not his attire you dimwit.

  • @NimbleTurtle13, so what you are saying is that he wears women panties too:-P

  • @whatever7x7 I don't want to repeat myself again. You're a dimwit.

  • @NimbleTurtle13, how is it dimwitted to not like men wearing women. OMG I bet he has a full length mirror in every room of his house. and a walk-in closet full of GAYNESS+_+

  • @whatever7x7 It's dimwitted to believe that the manner in which one dresses himself or his sexual preference has any effect on the quality of his performances. Dimwit.

  • @ninetailedhollow5, oh so you admit that hes dresses in his mama's bath robe, and is queer, Tell me again why I would pay to watch this.....ah......NO +_+

  • @whatever7x7 English isn't your native language, is it?

I retract my earlier statement declaring your stupidity. You are brilliant far beyond any human comprehension. You are in no way bigoted and backwards. You absolutely do not have the mere intelligence of a 5-year-old raised by equally bigoted parents that somehow found his way to this video.

Was that too much to read? I'm sorry. What I'm saying is that you're really fucking stupid.

  • @ninetailedhollow5 you must be black, Only 2.6 % of blacks have IQ's over 110, the rest have 85 or lower, that's next to retardation.

  • @whatever7x7 Judging by your comments, you must be a fellow nigger. WASSUP NIGGA?

  • @ninetailedhollow5, so you're saying that you are black retarded and like to dress as a woman . OMG +_+ FSN

  • @whatever7x7 What, so you're not black? Get outta here cracka.

  • The orchestra should really be knighted for keeping up with Maisky. He should check his intonation srsly and his tempo is hell. Wonderful horn nevertheless. Reminds me of Stefan Dohr.

  • Who is the female cellist sitting behind Mischa on the left? She doesn't play a note :-@

  • @andytpnt she can't believe the woman blouse he's wearing +_+

  • @andytpnt On some of the broader shots you can see that a couple cellos aren't playing, probably to keep the soloist exposed.

  • @andytpnt IDK but she looks pissed.

  • @andytpnt Wife of Gustav Rivinius! :)

  • @andytpnt 1:50 THERE ARE MORE CELLIST THAT DON´T PLAY

  • @andytpnt Shostakovich is using a compositional technique which is named "Divisi" in which he chooses that only the first part of the cello section plays. "Divisi" may also be used to for different section separations!

  • @andytpnt The string section is sometimes cut so that the sound of the section does not drown out the soloist.

  • Thank you so much for posting this Video on youtube..This Performance and music show the miracle of Music..this is just a blessing...Thank you again, thank you...!

  • I love Shostakovich, and I can hear all the notes...

  • @Mboho Be calm :-) Maisky is a fantastic player, and I have have paid good money to see him many times. But (and he says this himself) he has a very "free" approach to tempo and rubato. This is fine when he's playing with e.g. Martha Argerich at the piano, who understands him perfectly, but it can be a problem with an orchestra. This wonderful Concerto is very tightly-argued, and if you don't touch base with the orchestra now and again, all the energy is lost.

  • @TheValdoe I am musician since I was 5 years old and I am working in Symphony Orchestra from 12 years,so my opinion again is that all you said is totally wrong!!!I am listening now Pieter Wispelwey's recording and I can't tell you that there is nothing to compare with Maisky..also I can tell you that Maisky is so clear that is very easy for the Orchestra to follow him and to play with him...the rubati and etc are part of his idea of the concert, which is just genius and exactly in the style.

  • @TheValdoe Please don't answer!!!

  • @Mboho Why? Because I might not agree?! I'm an orchestral player too, and I know what it's like to have a soloist who just does his own thing. As a couple of examples, why does he suddenly speed up at 0.12 from an already breakneck tempo? Or suddenly rit at 0.44? Those aren't in the score, and they're not interpretations, just mannerisms, habits. I have the cello part here, and I feel he just isn't respecting the score. (There's also a definite mistake at 5.33, but I don't mind that!)

  • @TheValdoe I'd have to agree with you there this player does that a lot in general. The conductor should put him in his place but sometimes they don't dare say things like that to some of these soloists just because they don't want trouble. My problem is that its their job to do that and by not doing that they lose control of the orchestra and now they follow the soloist :o

  • @TheValdoe it's called making music dude. it's fun to play with nuance and timing. don't you think it would be incredibly boring if everyone played everything the same way every time? and people wonder why modern orchestras are failing..

  • @Mboho Any performance by Rostropovich, and especially Natalia Gutman, gets all the emotion and energy without bending the concerto out of shape. (Gutman's recording on Live Classics is probably the best-ever.) Even Pieter Wispelwey's performance on Youtube (I say "even", because although he's great, the orchestra is a bit ropey) is a lot better.

  • That was inspirational! Thank you!

  • Great, just Great ...

  • fantastic music!

  • Monstruo!

  • great energy!

  • Bravo!

  • Inprecionante... todo un maestro.

  • always great!

  • You know, Rostropovich is the best cellist, but Misha! I like him much more. He plays evrything better then Rostropovich.( Only for me)

  • @MrAugustasG Not only for you :)

  • @MrAugustasG The student better than the teacher! :D

  • @MrAugustasG

You know this piece was written for Rostropovich.

  • Bravo. <3

  • @wwjd19jeff91ynwa You forgot Schumann and Elgar... Listen carefully... ;-)

  • @olmaleo Of course those are two cello concerti that belong on the top of great concerti, but in my opinion I prefer Dvorak and Shostakovich. Of course you can love those two as well! I personally like these two more than Schumann, and also bit than Elgar, although that one is a beauty as well ;) I personally (as a Violin player) love most of the many violin concerto's, but I prefer a threesome of them ;) got it? Anyway, there's no reason not to listen to Elgar Cello Concerto, that's true!

  • @wwjd19jeff91ynwa

    Lovely answer :-)))))))))

And what do you think about Schelomo, Saint-Saens 1 and the beautiful Dutilleux?

I met Maisky, and he told me "I don't forgive Mozart and Rachmaninov: they don't wrote a Cello Concerto"...

  • @olmaleo You forgot Haydn..AAARGH!

  • Good video, Mischa Maisky is one of my favorite cellists. Greetings from Brazil a bassoonist!
