The statement "Who you love doesn't define who you are" is totally ridiculous. What you love speaks volumes about your character and who you are as a person. Also, romantic relations aside, there are some people/aspects of people that I do not like. Indeed, there are things about myself that I do not like.
There is a very BIG difference between tolerance and acceptance. If a person doesn't approve of homosexuality, I believe that is their business and by telling somebody that they have to ACCEPT homosexuality isn't that dictating to people what they should believe? Everybody has the right to their own opinions just as everybody has the right to criticize those opinions. Be that as it may, EVERYBODY deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. You can love the person but dislike the deed.
@Dillon1907 I don't know for sure, but I think the quote you quoted is referring to gender. In other words, the gender of who you love doesn't define who you are. I would argue that that is a true statement. Just a thought.
@Dillon1907 Agreeing with @DuhaimeC on this one. And regardless, even if it isn't about gender, I know people who are in love with someone who is the complete opposite of who they are, a person who anyone could judge by their cover as "bad", but who does not define their significant other in the slightest and who actually turns out to be a great person. Who you love does *not* define who you are.
@MushuPork13 Good responses, you two. But still, I find it hard to believe that who or even what you love doesn't at least point to a person's character. Suppose a girl is dating somebody who continually keeps cheating on them, yet she continues to be with that person. Doesn't that say something as to who they are? Insecure, possibly weak, having their life revolve too much around one person?
