Why you have the Beatles tagged is a tad confusing to me...or talking about the weather. dionnemichael has it right. Albert Hammond had nothing to do with the Beatles and the song is about going out to California to make it big in show Biz and the harsh reality of it not working out. Well I dunno about the metaphor...the thousands whose homes have been destroyed by fires could've used a bit of rain. Besides, Hammond says 'it pours', so by your logic, he thinks bad things happen there all of the time

@RobsnVegas Yes I am well aware of what a metaphor is, and I am aware that he uses rain metaphorically, much like the metaphoric Southern Californian rain that tragically melted the metaphoric cake in "MacArthur Park".

I was merely commenting on the accompanying video of the forest fires, which don't tend to happen in areas that have a decent amount of rainfall, and I was saying that the phrase could also be taken literally, as the poster of this vid intended.
