I had a crappy corolla that did this unintentionally once.  It eventually blew holes in the rusty exhaust. Do you have to have the exhaust hot for it to work?

Flicking the kill switch off for a bit then on on the over-run does the same thing. I had a dodgy slip on silencer that I blew off a few times doing this.

I used to do that in a crappy little delivery car for one of my old jobs. Head down a steep hill and shut the key off while it's moving then turn it back on. POW!
