The idiot below me failed to also tell you the leaves soak up most of the carbon dioxide in the area as well filters pollutants given off from the factories. The reason why these trees grow tall sometimes and other times don't, is because of the area you live in. Some places are perfect for the tree others not so good but they will grow in your area still. One more thing is they help out Bees and Butterflies.
This tree, whose scientific name is Paulownia tomentosa, is a well-known exotic pest plant. It is listed as "extremely environmentally harmful" on many states' invasive plant lists. For more information, google its scientific name. One site even has it shown on a page that looks like an old-west outlaw poster, entitled 'Least Wanted'.
im growing one of those in north florida and planted last year grew about 4 feet then i cut it off all the way to the ground the first week of march and now is 12 feet tall,so from march to now it grew 12 feet,im fertilizing with a 20% nitrogen bush & trees fertilizer twice a month since may, they say is pretty invasive it throws thousands of seeds and the fly all over and start growing all over, found that info after planting mine but is too beautiful to get rid of it now, i will find out .
Beautiful tree, but it doesn't grow 18 feet in a year. Catalogs will give you the nonsense that it can do that if and only if you buy one of theirs. However, it can grow 6 to 10 feet in a year. It doesn't like cold weather - it drops the big leaves after the first frost in the Fall. Don't panic, it won't flower the first year, you have to wait 3 or 4 years for that.
People tend to show flowers when depicting trees, yet flowers are there for like two weeks while the leaves are around for 8 months. I want to SEE THE LEAVES when evaluating a tree. Forget the stupid flowers already.
I have an Idaho Black Locust that provides the best of both worlds actually, producing beautiful magenta flowers while the great looking green leaves are out there too. In that case, I still want to see how she looks minus flowers because that's what will be there most of the t.

Ok Im the first maybe..
Many thanks for uploading this interesting video. Can you confirm the sub-species?
Is it Paulownia elongata?
Im toying with the idea of growing several hectares of these in the southern Philippines.
Thanks in advance.
